I'd be remiss if I didn't update my review. I rarely treat myself to a mani/pedi, but when I do, I've always chosen Awesome Nails and recommended them for years. Sadly, today was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The massage was non-existent, Jergen's lotion was used instead of salon quality products, and they tried painting my nails with old, clumpy polish not once, but twice. And I had to get up to make them stop. On top of that, the polish job itself was incredibly sloppy. The final straw? My technician dropped the brush onto the floor, picked it up without cleaning it, stuck it back into the polish, wiped the floor with her hands, did not wash her hands, and then proceeded to touch my hands and feet. I have been going to this nail salon for about 10 years because it's very close to my office - way before it was Awesome Nails! Kathy (Cathy?) is amazing. So good at what she does. I've been to other places in Walnut Creek just to try them out, and places in Lafayette, Pleasant Hill and Concord, but I always come back! She always listens to exactly how you like your nails, always wants to do the shape you like, and really takes her time - the nails last! She also takes her time (might want to request also) to dremel down the acrylic so it's nice and thin and not bulky and trashy looking. She does an A+ job on my short coffin shape. They have a great selection of gel colors now too! The place was remodeled about two years ago and looks great. Very clean. Stopped by this nail salon on a whim as I was driving by couple times recently. My impressions after a basic manicure and pedicure service both times: good enough. I wasn't ecstatic but I didn't hate it either. There are better nail salons in Walnut Creek than here for sure. Basic manicure and pedicure cost me $32 + $1 for buffing the nails. With their basic pedicure came an exfoliating scrub and hot stone massage (the hot stone massage was relaxing, and I would have preferred for it to last longer). I couldn't convince them to go longer with the hot-stone massage, even if I wanted to pay them more - oh well. They did get a little too aggressive with the cuticle trimming the first time, but it wasn't too bad the second time that I visited. The ladies are really friendly. The service is probably worth 3.5 stars, but this is one of those few nail salons that actually includes the exfoliating scrub and a hot stone massage in a basic pedicure service. Kathy is wonderful. I love how she does my nails and they are always perfect. Her staff are also awesome with the pedicures. In previous salons I would get a pedicure every so often, but here I get a pedicure every time I get my nails done. They are that great. I have also had my eyebrows done here. Kathy does a really nice job with my eyebrows too. I recommend this Nail Salon and travel 30 minutes to get my needs taken care of. They are that good! read more

Because 9a on sat can be slow, they called to see if I wanted to come earlier than my 10:30a. I noticed this when i was there that they called others to see if they wanted to come earlier. UPDATE - Am I just having bad luck? I went back again today for a manicure and a different woman did it. She was meticulous with the pre-painting and then put the polish on sloppily. There are obvious ridges where the polish didn't cover the first coat and they're messy at the cuticles. I will find a different salon in the area. See the pictures I posted so you can see I'm not being unreasonable. I had one of the strangest experiences at this salon. The elderly woman who did my pedicure kept falling asleep. I didn't notice at first but when she was doing the massage, I felt her rubbing the same random spot for way too long, then I looked up and noticed she had her eyes closed and was tilting to the side like she was going to fall over. This went on the entire time. It was very distracting. She was also slinging cuticle oil around and dropping it on the floor because she was so lethargic. I've had better pedicures. I'll go back and ask for someone else or come back later if she's my only option. read more

Unfortunately I didn't have the best experience here, I hate giving one stars so I put two.. they were good at getting me in as a walk in, there were only two other people getting their nails done when I got there. Everything was fine until I asked for my nails to be trimmed and the lady refused and said that will be too short, I explained I needed it for work to be short but she continued to just file them to be round , not taking much length off. Then she began cutting my cuticles. She made me bleed like crazy, so much so that she didn't know what to do so she put alcohol on it to "clean it" which stung like no other. Then after she was done clipping the cuticles she left the dead skin on the towel that was under my hand. She then went to massage my hands and used that same towel with the dead skin in it to take off the lotion. I had fLakes or nasty skin all over my arms. I have my favorite place in SJ but if I don't have time then I'll try some new places in the area base on availability. I went to awesome nails the first time yesterday. The lady did such a terrible job removing the gel and didn't do a good job with shaping my nails. The she apply the polish so clumsily that it look terrible. Then I woke up this morning with a huge indentation on my index finger nail. I have never ever experience that before. I couldn't stand it, so I had to go back and get it removed.
