I read several of the reviews before finally deciding on giving this place a try. It turns out the food here isn't bad. We ordered a variety of items such as fried rice with wings, fried shrimp with shrimp fried rice, bourbon chicken, veggie rolls. Out of everything that was ordered the fried rice and fried wings was everyone's top pick and then the fried shrimp. The veggie roll had too much pepper and the bourbon chicken didn't have a good taste. It tasted like plain chicken that was bland. While waiting for the food, the customer service was excellent! There are times in my life where I'm so totally wrong, I want to kick myself. I've seen Dragon Express many times as I jog by it during my workout. So, when I got one of those Chinese food cravings, I googled and yelped to see what others thought with google not being very kind, so I opted for trying other places. Well, very recently I flew out to Kansas City to see my daughter graduate and we went to a Chinese buffet and it stunk so bad it inflamed my food itch. I scratched that itch and now I'm here to give my detailed and glowing review of Dragon Express as they're one of the best I've had in Summerville! First off, I don't think anyone would seriously consider eating in here as it doesn't appear that they've made an effort to be a sit-down restaurant post the bug craze of 2020. But that's fine as it allows them to focus on the food! But to be fair I will say that I like the little Chinese accents like the waving cat, posters and décor. Moreover, seeing through the kitchen with a screen door open to let fresh air in while the chefs bang away brings home the authenticity for me. The staff here is very nice and fast to fill your order. Please note that if you need anything like soy sauce, hot mustard, fortune cookies and so on, they're to the left. However, for the life of me I couldn't find any chop stix! That's about my largest complaint. Now, lets get onto the star of the show, the food! Again I was really craving Chinese after recently having "crap-knees" in Missouri. So, I ordered a few popular items to satisfy my cravings. As a side note I really wish more Chinese would carry Beef Chow Fun which is Cantonese but I've only found one place in town that offers it. First up for some reason I was craving fried chicken with imo is more American than anything. WOW - they nailed it. While I still don't know why they left the tip on the wing b/c no one eats it, the drumette and flat which are connected were so darn crispy but juicy right below the fried crust. I'm a former chef and I'm dumbfounded how they do it! As for the egg roll, I was happy it had more ingredient texture and diversity than most eggrolls you get at a Chinese takeout, it wasn't very flavorful. This was my least favorite item that I sampled. Next up the pancit or as it's also known: house noodle, mei fun, or Singapore noodle (although Singapore is made with curry). First the dish was rocket hot so I had to give it a minute to rest, then I noticed it had a perfect meat and veggie to noodle ration. Of course, restaurants want to use a lot of pasta/rice b/c it's cheap. But it had a good balance of carrots, bok choy and egg however I would have liked a little more green onion; that's just me being picky. As for the chicken it was pretty bland and, in all honesty, everywhere I've had the dish that seems to be the case, so I'm fine with that. Overall, this was about as close to perfection as I could have hoped. Finally I got the fried rice. I'm not sure how the buffet I was last at screwed this up but I needed some good fried rice and I'm happy to report mission accomplished. The rice was firm which indicates it sat overnight (a much needed trick to quality fried rice), had a nice sheen, in the back had some hints of soy but I couldn't find that smoke from a well-seasoned wok. No problem as it was studded with onions, the delicious char siu (pork) and a few green onion tops. Another slam dunk. Overall, Dragon Express is an extremely underrated Chinese restaurant with great people that work there. Moreover, their potion sizes are huge for the price, which gave a lot more value than say a fast-food hamburger meal and probably healthier. While I said it before it warrants restating, their food is the most accurate that I've had in town. I rather like authentic Chinese food and when I crave it, I don't want some "reinvited" or worse lacking experience, I want to comfort food. I highly recommend giving these people a try as my experience was one of the best I've had in ages. read more

We drove an hour to get food here, spent almost $70. We get home and find two of the breaded chicken dishes were so over cooked they were not edible at all it was like chewing hard jerky with soggy breading. The hunan chicken was sweet rather than spicy and the chicken was overly chewy. When I called and asked for a refund for just two of the dishes the owner refused. They told me I could bring the food back and they would make it again. I would never treat a customer like this especially if they drove an hour to get food from my business. I stopped in here to order some food for take-out with my daughter. The wait was around ten minutes and the employees were really nice. For four people (two adults, a teen and a kid) I ordered a large pork fried rice, two orders of spring rolls and an order of sweet and sour chicken that comes with white rice. It was a little under $23. We really enjoyed the food. It was plenty for us and we had some of the fried and white rice left over. read more

We are new to the area and have tried out a few Chinese food places since moving here. This place was above the rest, no question. We were so pleased with our food- orange chicken was delicious and quality white meat chicken with real ingredients (orange rind) in the sauce- easily may be the best orange chicken that I have ever had to be honest. Lo mein was equally delicious, as well as our steamed pot stickers(dumplings). Writing this as I literally eat our next day left overs for inspiration hahah. I think Jeffrey is right about them changing owner, because it used to be my go to chinese take-out, as the only place that had curry on the menu that didn't taste like a dump. They would make my tofu with curry sauce and make it super spicy. It was actually really good and not just "ehh it's good, for chinese food" good. Last two times, they told me tofu is made with homestyle sauce and I was like "Can't you just cook it with curry??" once they did and the curry was not spicy also it tasted like gym socks... I tried again once more a few weeks later and was told they would not make tofu curry!! It's not that confusing... So I ordered the menu's shrimp curry, whatevs.. Well it still tasted like really bland gym socks, even after I emphasized I like it really spicy. These "chinese" dishes aren't that complex, come on now! I ended up adding my own thai chili paste and lemongrass powder to compensate and it's hopefully the last time I ever eat chinese takeout. read more

Food was good. We've ordered here before had one issue they forgot red sauce but they rectified the situation.

Ordered six shrimp egg rolls with a request for 10 packets of duck sauce and 5 packs of mustard because they never add enough condiments to go with the egg rolls. I also placed an order of shrimp egg foo young. The egg foo young was swimming in oil upon arrival. I used 10 paper towels to drain the oil but it's still extremely oily. After my order was placed and delivered Dragon Express contacted Door Dash and charged me an additional $7.20 for what should have been free condiments. The restaurant never contacted me beforehand to tell me they were going to charge extra for the condiments nor did they me the option of canceling the condiments prior to delivery. Door Dash just automatically added the extra charge to my credit card without prior notification. When I protested the $7.20 charge for 10 packs of duck sauce and 5 packs of mustard Door Dash replied that since I already received the items the restaurant refused to take off the additional unauthorized charges. Soo, where to start, when I ordered, they told me The delivery would be 45 mins, since they were really busy. That was fine. Fast forward 1.5 hours later, I called them and they said driver should be here soon. 10 mins later, he showed up. When we got our food, we were missing our sweet and sour chicken. I called them right back and talked with the manager, he said they would get us our chicken. I asked him how long, since the first time took so long. He assured me that they would put a priority on it and get it to me right away. 1 HOUR later, I had to call and talked with the manager AGAIN. He said that the driver was on his way. I had to ask if he would compensate for this mistake, and he said he would give me 10% off our next order. I truly do not understand the lack of reviews for this place. My fiancé and I LOVE THEM!!! House Pancit is my favorite and General Tso's (always extra extra spicy) is his. And the fried dumplings are THE BOMB!!! Ordering is quick and easy because we order the same dishes every time, so they simply ask us if we want the same thing that we ordered last time, and we say yes. Takes me about three minutes at the most to order and the food always arrives fresh and hot and delicious. All the combo meals include an eggroll and you need to tell them you want pork fried Rice instead of white rice. Only tip I would give you is to make sure that you're very clear with your directions if you're getting delivery. Sometimes the delivery person has gotten lost but they try really hard... I ordered the chicken chow mein with white rice and an egg roll for delivery. The food came quickly, but the delivery guy was obviously pissed off. He did not smile at all and said nothing. He looked like he had just been in a fight with someone. When my food arrived, the chicken chow mein was either boiled or steamed because the chicken and onions were white and had NO flavor. I called the restaurant and the lady said that is the way their chow mein looks. I had to throw it in the fry pan and add soy sauce to it before I could eat it. The food was good as usual but when they delivered they only delivered part of our order. We called the store and had to wait for the manager to call us back. We were told the driver missed a bag and it was in his car. The manager would call him he'd be right back. 20 mins later, no food, I called back and was informed the driver was too far away he'd be back. I informed them my food was going to be cold and was told it would be fine the driver doesn't have a/c. 45 minutes after receiving half my order the rest is delivered. Guess what, it was COLD and soggy and the rice that went with it was delivered with the first half of the order, go figure. I think the missed food should have been replaced with fresh. I'm not about to eat food that's been riding around in a car for close to an hour that is soggy & cold. I think I'll find a new delivery.
