I first saw Dr. Smash Burger on TikTok and looked worth the drive to check it out. They operate as a pop-up, so you have to follow their Instagram to see where they'll be next. On this visit they were set up outside Little Cottage Brewery in Avondale Estates, which doubled as a chill spot with people grabbing burgers and drinks.
I ordered two OG smash burgers. They run $8 for a single patty or $10 for a double. Each burger comes with freshly ground beef smashed thin on the grill, topped with American cheese, sautéed onions, and their house sauce on a potato bun. The patties had that proper smash burger crust with edges that were slightly crisp while still juicy inside. The cheese melted right into the beef and the onions brought a sweet, caramelized flavor. The potato bun was lightly toasted and soft enough to hold everything together without falling apart.
The sauce completed the meat well. It had a creamy base with a little kick that balanced the richness of the burger without overpowering it. Every bite had a good mix of beef, cheese, onions, and sauce. Simple ingredients, but executed well.
Since it's a pop-up, the setup is straightforward, order at one window and pick up at the next.
They also offer desserts like flan and Tres leches if you want something sweet after the burger.
This is a solid stop for anyone who appreciates a proper smash burger and doesn't mind tracking down a pop-up location.
