Ask the Community - Dr Hernandez Optometry

    Do you perform cataract surgery?

Hello, we do not perform cataract surgery, however, we offer co-management services for cataracts.

Do we need to get eye exam done with you to get the glasses or can we get prescription from another location to you and buy frame and glass only? Also what brand frames you sell?

Hello Vibe, No, you do not need to get an eye exam done with us to purchase glasses. You can call us to make an appointment to purchase frames, and/or lenses. Please call… Read more

I thought I'd try Walmart, and this was the closest location to me with a vision center. I didn't need to make an appointment, and the optician saw me right away and took my order. She was knowledgeable and friendly, and offered expedited service at no charge. I ended up paying about $300 for the progressive lenses, which is less than half of what I was hearing elsewhere! They might have been even less than that if I'd used my vision insurance, but I didn't have my card on me and needed the glasses for an upcoming trip. My new frames were ready in less than a week, and I got a text message to let me know they could be picked up. Super easy, painless experience that didn't hurt my bank account. I also saw lot of other cool, designer frame options in the store, too. Super impressed by this vision center!

I called the Walmart Vision Center and in short order had an appointment for an eye exam. The doctor, Kantha Chhuon was ever so knowledgeable, thorough and patient -- qualities needed to get the best job. Patience is especially important when the doctor refracts you (turns all the knobs on the phoropter -- that funny device to measure the prescription). My experience has been that doctors that rush this deliver a sub-optimal prescription. She communicates flawlessly, so that when all was done, I was perfectly satisfied.

I went here to get glasses for the first time as a young adult as I was experiencing problems with…read moremy eyes focusing during college. While staff was kind, the optometrist basically told me that I had "eye focusing muscles of a 45 year old" (made me feel kind of bad about it tbh) and prescribed me progressive lenses, not fully covered by insurance. I felt as though she talked me into them instead of simple reading glasses, which would have been free for me. Once I got my glasses, they immediately made me dizzy but I took the time to try to adjust to them. I never did. Made distance viewing worse than before. My eyes continued to worsen over the next two years until I decided to go to a new optometrist yesterday. She informed me I had NO PRESCRIPTION in my prior pair of glasses, just some magnification on the lower portion of the progressive to make text larger. This new optometrist informed me I do have 20/20 vision, but my eyes don't work together correctly, leaving me with the exact focusing issues I had complained of to the first doctor at Monrovia Optometry. Essentially, I had paid out of pocket for a pair of glasses that weren't even right for me, something akin to the reading glasses on the rack at cvs. My mom feels similarly about her experience here, where she was forced to pay even more than me. The lenses made for my newly diagnosed condition are not covered by any insurance, and they were still a more reasonable price than the pair I had that literally did nothing but make me more dizzy than I was before. I don't usually write reviews but I have never had such a poor experience at an optometrist, and after having such an amazing experience at Jewel City Optometry in Glendale yesterday, it really put into perspective how bad my care here was. You're better off going to lens crafters, Costco, Walmart, etc. I understand my condition isn't even tested for at most optometrists, (binocular vision disfunction) but because of this, I truly believe she didn't actually know, or care, what was truly wrong with my eyes, and instead of referring me to someone who would, let me pay her money for glasses with essentially nothing in them. Don't waste your time.

The receptionist was very nice…read more The doctor rushed me through the exam and didn't really seem to care. The selection of eyeglasses is small and most of the frames look the same, they're just different colors. I'll head back to the tried and true Dr Lindens. Every time I try to stray from Linden's, I am sooo disappointed.
