I use to love this place few years ago but last 2 years it's been bad . The follow up is slow and after exam they never have your contact trial sample and you have to wait 10 days to get that . I take my other kid to plaza vision and they always have the trial lenses after exam . I will not go back again to this location again . And the staff needs to be more friendly read more

Took me a month to get this appointment came from Rialto because Dr. Hernandez was highly recommended by my sons Doctor due to him being autistic. I accidentally forgot my wallet in my 3 month old twins diaper bag because of my dumb mommy brain ask if I could email photo of ID and insurance card they said no then ask if I may start filling out paperwork while my babysitter dropped off wallet so they can in their words "make sure my ID and insurance card isn't fake "they said no I asked if I could schedule for a later time frame since I come from far with my 3 children they still said no. Went to Dr. Hernandez's office and found them to be very professional and extremely kind to their patients. The eye exam was very through and all my questions were answered. The selection of glasses weren't to spectacular, but found a few pair. I wore them over the weekend and returned them for adjustments. They were considerate of my problems and fixed them perfectly. Located right next door to the Duarte Library, small parking lot in the back and street parking also available. I decided to try a new optometry in the area and decided to go with this one. I came here for the first time last Thursday. I was lucky enough to get a last minute appointment due to a cancellation. But generally appointments for eye exams do fill up quickly. Anyways, when entered through the back entrance, I was greeted by a smiling employing behind the front desk. She gave me paperwork to fill out and then I waited a short time before my name was called to begin my eye exam. Initlally I was take into a small room for some general procedures which include checking for the pressure of my eyes, etc. Then I was let into another examination room where I met the ever so friendly Dr. Hernandez. Dr. Hernandez was really nice and made me feel at ease as she spoke to me. After she did the eye exam, she told me that my vision is nearly the same as it was 2 years ago (eye exams only last for 2 years so I was just getting an updated one). She told me that for the most part that my eyes are generally healthy and that my vision will most likely not change (with the exception of needing bifolcals later down the road, unfortanately that is just the result of getting older and so you can't do anything about it to avoid it... boo). She told me that I did not need new glasses and I really appreciate that she did not try to up sell me or try to get to buy new glasses. I truly appreciated her honesty and trust her expertise. I will definitely be sure to come back here again for my next eye exam. By the way, this optometry business takes VSP eye insurance and my co pay for my eye exam was only $10 (but may be a different price if you come in for contact lense fittings, depending on your insurance plan). read more

Using this office's website, I submitted an online request for an appointment in the morning for two weeks later, in addition to an intake form on a Monday afternoon. I received an email confirming my submission. Their online system said someone would contact me to confirm my appointment request. The following Wednesday I left them a voicemail first thing in the morning explaining that I submitted the form two days previously, and I wanted to schedule an appointment, and asked someone to call me. That evening I called them back and asked them why no one had replied to the online form - they said they were having trouble with their online scheduling system. I asked them why no one had returned my call, they could not answer that. I asked them if they received my intake form and they said they had. They ended up having zero appointments available for the Monday that I wanted to come in. Since they DID receive my intake form from my online submission, I am still confused as to why no one contacted me. Regardless of whether their online scheduling system was working or not. The person I spoke to over the phone didn't seem to care one iota about me or the appointment I wanted to make to see one of their doctors. Based on how difficult it was to get a hold of someone at this office, I decided not to schedule a first appointment for a different day. Imagine if I had become a patient of theirs, how hard it would be for me to conduct any business with them. Your luck with this office may be different than mine was. read more

I had my prescription glasses done and sent them message about requesting appointment. I tried using the eyeglass and i felt something's not right. I ordered for a progressive lens and i don't feel they had it done correctly. I will never recommend them to my friends. It's a waste of my money for something you cannot make use of. With an abundance of choices in Optometry offices, the Doctors at Hernandez Optometry should strive to provide better customer service rather than think about their bottom line. A consideration should be afforded to ensure the health and well-being of their patients. I will never begrudge any business to make a fair profit, however, customer loyalty and longevity should be considered when a simple favor is requested. I don't even live in the area anymore but I still came back here; never again! A long time customer, I was retrieving my glasses yesterday and asked if it would be possible to see the Doctor. When asked what my concern was I stated that I had been having a problem with my right eye for a few days. I further explained that it felt like there was a rock in my eye, there was constant tearing, and was very painful. I had planned on seeing an ophthalmologist but I thought since I was here that maybe the Doctor could just take a quick look and tell me if I just needed some drops! A quick look is all it would have taken, I wasn't asking for a full exam. I thought she wouldn't mind out of professional courtesy. No such luck, she did mind! They said my insurance wouldn't pay for the exam (they were most likely right) but I could pay $80 for a full exam. Just to take a quick look? I only asked because I happened to be there. Without saying a word she told me that my repeat business (including referrals and recommendations) was not worth her trouble of a quick 30-seconds out of her day. Dr. Ochoa has no professional courtesy! But I will say the front office staff in the Duarte Office are always professional, polite, and courteous and provide service with a smile. The La Puente office...not so much! Dr. Diane Hernandez is thorough, experienced, and professional but speaks in a robotic manner when explaining the various details of the exam. This always made me uncomfortable like I was missing something in her explanation. Nice lady though. If the Hernandez Optometry offices are so self-serving then who must the career politician be serving? Himself? Sorry Ed, I voted for Eleni Kounalakis in the primary and she'll get my vote in November. read more

I've been going to Duarte Optometry since the late 1980s with my parents. It used to be located in the Gemco shopping center (where Target is now). The original optometrist retired and Diane Hernandez bought the business and relocated next to the Duarte library. The new location feels very home-like and the staff is always friendly and helpful. After 19 years as a patient and customer at Duarte Optometry I'm sorry to say that I will no longer be returning there after my experience this past year. Dr. Diane Hernandez has always been awesome and a huge delight, but somehow after the expansion the customer service aspect of what Duarte optometry stands for has suffered drastically. Thank you Dr. Hernandez for all your hard work over the years. My family and I have been customers since the Huntington drive location since we were children-a VERY LONG TIME AGO and I recently got married-which prompted the need for a name change and address update. I had made the adjustment during my last visit and found it kind of weird that i began receiving mail for ALL my family members to my new address. I called to make the change and clarify who belong under what address and they noted that everyone who was linked to my mom's insurance (whose insurance I DID NOT USE FOR MY VISIT) was changed to my address. I confirmed who lived where and to my knowledge it was updated correctly. OR SO I THOUGHT. Upon calling again today all my information was changed BACK to my mom's address. AND THAT'S NOT ALL.... In addition to the address update made in today's call to the office I also called to pay for my contact lenses, however the receptionist noted that they were sent back. Granted they were delivered to the office in May, I hadn't had a chance to go in but would send a family member to pick them up for me. A week ago I expressed my intentions to pick them up, and they noted that they would not be returned. Today was a different story. The office said that they make numerous phone calls to the patient to remind them to pick them up and inform them that they will be returned-WHICH NEVER HAPPENED and has never happened in all my experience with them over the years. The only call I EVER received was the initial call to inform me of them being ready. It's quite disappointing that I won't have my contacts in time for my vacation this year due to this mix up. =/ I'm so unhappy with my experience with the office staff and "so-called" protocols/procedures this time around that I won't be returning going forward and can no longer give the glowing word of mouth recommendations to anyone looking for a good office in the area. read more

I normally never take the time to go and get my eyes checked or anything because of how uncomfortable I feel at doctors offices but the staff at Dr. Hernandez office were some of the sweetest people I've ever met. One of the girls Edith went above and beyond to help us find an appointment for us since we live in NY. The process of coming in, getting our exam and glasses was so easily and comfortable. If you are just looking for an eye exam, I would recommend the office. Dr. Hernandez is friendly and easy to talk to. Staff is pretty friendly, no complaints. However, if you are getting glasses, take your prescription and have the glasses done elsewhere. I placed (and paid for) prescription sunglasses over a month ago. For reference, I was quoted 7-10 days max. They were done incorrectly and had to be sent back. Weeks later, still no glasses. I literally would have been better off going to Lenscrafters (or really, anywhere else.) I have never had a pair of glasses take this long to be delivered. In addition, the selection of glasses at the office is a bit outdated. (didn't have the new wayfarer ray bans) So if style and a wide selection is important to you, maybe research somewhere else and they can order the style you want. Meanwhile, I had to buy a pair of regular non prescription sunglasses so I had something until these arrived. read more

I first took my kids (teenagers) to Duarte Optometry and Dr. Hernandez because it was close, but the service was so exceptional and the staff so polite and yet still fun. Our family has a weird sense of humor and the staff just laughed along with our crackpot jokes. Dr. Hernandez really knows her stuff. She knows how to talk to a nervous teenage girl about getting glasses for the first time, and how to explain to a teenage boy why he should wear sunglasses outside on a sunny day. And she was also fantastic about explaining to me how the kids' eyes are doing, and what I should expect in the future. I have visited hundreds of Dr's and clinics since being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and have never heard another patient explain their Dr/clinic experience in those ways. I have not had an amazing experience like these people. Both times I used Dr Hernandez I had to ask for a copy of my prescription. They only want you to buy their very overpriced products. I happened to use Zenni to purchase my specs. I wound up messing up my frames. They were nice and adjusted them on a Monday. The frames now stayed on my face when leaning over. I noticed that the frames were kind of crooked. I called to ask if they could try to correct that. I was given a hard time because I did not purchase from them. After some back and forth they agreed to re adjust. While in the office for the re-adjust I started speaking with another patient that had to ask for a copy of her prescription. One of the extremely rude staff members came by and told me that I could not talk to other patients in the office. She must not have liked the fact that the other patient was agreeing with me that the products sold here are not affordable for people on fixed incomes even though they take the insurance. Apparently if you can't afford to pay $500 for some glasses you are not worthy of their time. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE ON FIXED INCOME OR POOR!!!!! read more
