The nose pad of my daughter's glasses had fallen off and I brought in the glasses hoping for a repair. The ladies at the front desk recognized the brand of glasses right away and told me that while they didn't carry those specific nose pads, extra ones were usually given with the glasses upon purchase. I went home, found the extra ones, and brought it right back. Danielle got on it right away and fixed the nose pad, no charge! I appreciate the kindness and expertise of the staff here. The front desk is always friendly and helpful. They offered to complete the paperwork for Medicare. Dr. Alysa examined my eyes thoroughly after cataract surgery and also looked at my old glasses I brought in to assess which can still be used. Everyone is always extremely friendly here and I've never had a bad experience. They take their time and go over everything with you and I've always felt very comfortable here. I recently moved, but will still make the drive out from Upland to get my eye exams done here. I've been lucky to have my exams done by Dr. Watanabe and her father and I always look forward to seeing and catching up with them. Such a kind family and they know what their doing. The staff during my most recent visit a couple weeks ago were kind and took all the safely measures to make sure everything was sanitized and ready for me. Went in for a check up and they really took care of me. The staff was very attentive and in a few minutes I was sent back to see the doctor. They did those tests first and also checked the back of my eyes since I have diabetes. They said I should always check the back of the eyes to make sure the diabetes doesn't spread to my eyes. They said by catching it right away there are preventative measures that can be taken to prevent it from spreading. That was very helpful to know. Anyway, all went well and they were very helpful in picking out glasses. They had a lot of frames to choose from. I got some name brand frames for free ( insurance covered) with polarized lenses for when I drive, golf and fish. She said these type of lenses remove the glare then she had me look at a picture with them on and it made a huge difference so I was sold. Polarized cost a little more but I thought it was definitely worth it to see things so much clearer. Plus if it can help my golf game I'm all in! read more

Been going to this optometrist for the last 5 years and have been pleased with the service. Front desk personnel always greets me to check me in, always prompt getting me in at my appointment time, and the actual doctor visit is very thorough. The staff always allows me to try on all the pairs of glasses I want (knowing they're going to have to put them all back) and helps me chose a pair that look great on my face. They change the selection of frames every 3 months and when I went in this last time they were so cute to let me know they're getting a YSL line in in a few weeks if I wanted to wait to check those frames out. Anyways, large enough selection for anyone to find a pair. The entire appointment between my exam and choosing a pair of glasses had to last just over half an hour. And just like that my glasses will be ready in 7-10 days. And, you can pay half of your balance there and the other half when you pick up. Win-win!! read more

I had a change in vision insurance and I lucked out when I found them down the street. I called and had an appointment a few days later. I was attended to quickly and the staff and doctor were amazing. It was a thorough exam and I enjoyed my first visit. I cannot wait to come back and get my glasses. They had a wide range of glasses. I don't plan on ever coming back. There is a lack of customer service and the machines seem so antiquated The majority of the glasses start off around $240 and mostly name brand, the woman doctor was very dismissive and robotic during my visit. I was (reluctantly) encouraged to come back for a follow up visit and saw the male doctor who was significantly warm, friendly and engaging. He asked about my daily routine so that he could best suggest contacts for me. He was cool. Woman dr, not cool. Desk staff has no acknowledgement of you when you walk in. They will look but to not say a word until you ask them something. No thanks. read more

3 stars for the doctors, who have been professional, kind, and thorough the 2 times I've been examined there. For as good as the doctors are, I am shocked that their front desk staff is the worst, like shockingly awful. They make bare minimum effort to be just a step above outrightly rude, but sometimes their true contempt for the patients comes through. Oh and god forbid you aren't purchasing their overpriced frames from them after your exam because then zero effort is made toward politeness. Because my insurance doesn't cover much in frames, my best option is to purchase lower cost frames online. When I explained this and just asked for my prescription, it was visibly obvious that they were annoyed and after a unnecessarily long wait, handed me the prescription without even looking at me. Although I would hope that client feedback would result in some changes, I've noted on Yelp that several patients have had the same experience so I don't see any changes happening anytime soon. read more

First, I've had exams with both Drs. While both are kind and professional, I prefer the daughter Ms Watanabe. She's nice and to the point which I appreciate. She also gave me some good tips on preserving my eye sight. (Omega 3s!) The sales people - because that's really what the reps are - are nice. I feel like I got unnecessarily upsold on a lens but it was my fault for falling for it. They have a wide selection of glasses, most are very pricey. I think the might be marked up a bit too. I asked about the cost of some sunglasses I saw at the mall bc I wanted them to have my prescription, I wondered why they were more. I was told something about larger chains buying in bulk and getting discounts. Makes sense but not ideal for the consumer. Conveniently located in old town Monrovia. Plenty of street parking available on the main street and side streets. read more

When I ask for my prescription these are some of the following things I was told. "This isn't a free service", "If you're planning on buying your glasses online, they can help you", "We're not required to provide you with that information". I've come here for over 5 years and this is how I was treated. After arguing I was able to get part of my prescription. When I asked about the missing parts of the prescription (pupil distance) I was told it would be a $25 fee for that information. I simply wanted to buy a backup pair of cheap glasses, so I don't damage the ones i bought with them. I will never bring my business back here. read more

This place is terrible! I will never be back; that's how horrible it is. I've been using glasses for 20 years, and this has been the worst place I've even been to. The people at the front are rude and do not try to help or be understanding. The service is a disaster. It took almost four months since the day of my eye exam to get my glasses! Almost four months! Even after getting them, my glasses are giving me so many problems, but I cannot go back because the people there are not doing their job right, and I rather not deal with them anymore! This place is the epicenter of weird, and the fault line is the front desk. They've got a great location, and I'm happy to see a family business do well. Don't let me discourage you from checking Plaza Vision out. But during your visit, you can expect to say to yourself, "This place is weird." The first time we visited it was not an easy affair for my wife and I, since our kid was only a few months old. As newbie parents, we struggled to push our stroller through the front door (not automatic). "The girls" (more on this phrase later) behind the counter briefly looked up. They could have asked us if we needed any help. We were after all, customers struggling to get through their front door to an appointment. They could have said, "Welcome to Plaza Vision, can we help you?" not a creative ice breaker by any means, but better than nothing. Or they could have simply said, "Hi!" -- a freaking "Hi!" to acknowledge that we were there and they were cognizant of that. Instead they promptly returned to staring at their desks. It seems three leaves blown in through the mail chute would have provoked more interest. And walking up to the counter did nothing to change that. The room remained silent. I trepidatiously uttered, "Hello? We're here for an appointment?" half expecting them to say we weren't welcome because of our haircuts. But after I had taken the initiative, they told me to use the sign-in sheet. To be fair, the eye doctors at Plaza Vision range from competent, to better than. But the first time we went there I experienced the worst optometry advice ever. The doctor convinced me to go with an under powered prescription (i.e. to use the weakest prescription of my two eyes, for both eyes). As a result, I drove around squinting at street signs for a year. I then forgot about Plaza Vision for a while, and didn't intend to go back. But one night I woke up with pink eye. In a desperate situation, I was thus relieved when they said I could come in immediately. Once in, when I went to an exam room in the back with an optometry assistant, I mentioned that I also wanted to renew my contacts. "Ah," he said. "The girls at the front can help you with that." The girls. Some as old as my mom. Then a few minutes later, the optometrist who saw me that time (much better than the first, who I incidentally never saw on the premises again... perhaps too many of his patients took the wrong turn to Plaza Vision due to under powered lenses) diagnosed my condition and prescribed an antibiotic. And then he walked me up to the front desk. I had a question, a simple question really: was it okay for me to go to work that day? I was contagious and also wasn't sure if I was supposed to use my eyes, or rest my eyes, or what. But the doctor, after handing me off to "the girls," just disappeared into the back without saying anything. A simple, "Goodbye and good luck bro," probably would have cured my pink eye out of gratitude. When I realized he had dematerialized, I informed the receptionist of my question for the doctor. And in a somewhat hyperactive manner she told me that, the doctor was, "Now with another patient." I understand not wanting to interrupt. But then she forgot to ask my question after the patient finished his visit. Then she asked the eye doctor my question in the midst of another visit and interrupted anyways. Then a few weeks later I went back for an examination in order to renew my lenses. And at the front desk they ignored me again. I signed my name on the sign in sheet, and sat down before anyone uttered a single word. I figured they could use some constructive feedback. So this is it. read more

i went in with a pair of broken sunglasses which i did not purchase there. they graciously fixed them for me immediately for no charge. other places were going to charge minimum "repair" of at least $12. it took less than 5 minutes i appreciate the friendly service. read more

I had lost a screw in my glasses, and the nice girl up front a blonde gall maybe the receptionist but not sure, put one in and tightened everything up for me. Dr was nice and the woman with the glasses was helpful but one of the chicks was standoffish and just act like customer are bothering her from chatting with her coworkers. When I was done and got my prescription I asked about the I guess you can say budget glasses, and she had look like "what now" on her face . Some people should not do customer service jobs. The wait to be seen is absurd considering the staff. When they realize that you are not buying their overpriced glasses the courtesy flies right out the window. Just schedule an appointment and this place is super quick and easy. I walked in for my 9am appointment at 9:05 and I was out before 9:30! They have really great and friendly opticians who help get you prepared for the optometrists. Dr. Watanabe (female) was also very friendly and patient with me. I had scheduled two weeks in advance and taken time off of work for my appt. They had told me the appointment would take thirty minutes because I was on a tight schedule. When I arrived, I waited over ten minutes just to be checked in while the receptionist answered three calls and I just stood there. Finally someone came out to check me in and I reminded them of my tight schedule. They said I still had to do paperwork (why couldn't I have done that in the ten minutes I was waiting?) and wouldn't be out until fifteen minutes after the time I had been told. No one apologized for me just standing at the front desk for so long. I would have been late for my next appointment, so I left. read more

Today was my first visit there. They were the closest provider with our new insurance plan and decided to give them a try. The staff was friendly and very busy helping customers yet I didn't feel igored. They were backed up a bit and they apologized for the wait (30 minutes past my appointment time) which is a nice touch. The eye exam was standard and had a nice human touch. Since there was such a big change in vision from my current prescription the optometrist took extra time with the exam and did a few steps new to me to make sure she could give me a clean bill of health. Which I got in the end. The selection of glasses and price points to chose from is astounding. If you can't find a pair you like, well you're to picky. I'll be back with my Oakley sunglasses for new lenses in a few weeks...I liked them that much. read more

We had our first and last eyeglass experience here. The first time we went to get my 9 year old son new glasses, all was great, the eye doctor who examined us was really nice and seemed to have good knowledge. It has not even been a year, and my 9 year old accidentally broke off the arm of his glasses...imagine that. I was disappointed to learn how unaccommodating Plaza Vision and or their manufacturing suppliers are. I thought, how complicated could it be to replace/fix an arm of glasses? It seems like a all too common problem out there, especially where kids are concerned... they break, or just come loose. Rather, I was told their supplier had discontinued the "color" of the glasses my son had (yes, not the glasses...the COLOR!), and they would need to charge me $100 to replace them in full for the different color they had available. I was shocked! I immediately asked, what if I purchase another pair, and those too have an issue with the arm over time?...and the supplier discontinues those as well?? I guess I would be potentially in the hole each time for $100 for a common eyeglass issue! I then asked if they could order me the arm in the available color... they wanted $70 for the one arm! Who is ripping who off, I am not sure...but the young lady on the phone sharing this news with me was quite obviously less than concerned that I was unhappy. She actually sounded irritated with me, not a great way to de escalate an unhappy customer situation. She continued to talk with me in a condescending manner, re-stating there is nothing they can do, what do I want to do... she should have gotten the owner on the phone. If they had any good sense of customer service, they could have tried to sound more caring of the situation, not so cut and dry, and possibly tried to offer me some kind of discount in some small way that would have shown some level of customer appreciation. I understand that there are those times a situation really might be out of one's hands...but doing/offering something, any small thing that says, we are sorry, and we do care about your business, really matters a lot! It disappoints me when folks in the field of customer service really do not get how important this stuff is, or how to better navigate the concept. read more
