I went over 20 years of adult life without seeing an optometrist. I refuse to let anyone blow puffs into my eyes. Ain't nobody poking my eyes! What for? I don't have eye problems!! Until I did. So glad I found Dr. Julie Oh. The facility is modern and well-equipped, but what really made the visit was Dr. Oh herself. She was thorough (given my two-decade gap, she covered everything). She even showed me the insides of my eyes and explained how they screen for things like high blood pressure and diabetes. This doctor is skilled, I'm telling you. She was not just in full control of my eyes, she was even messing around with my brain. Walls bent. Lines on the floor swayed. But all throughout she explained everything, was genuinely kind and patient, constantly telling me not to worry and that I was doing great. When I asked for short breaks, she was super understanding and gracious. I really liked that. Not once did I feel unsafe. No amount of tech beats genuine human kindness. One thing that really impressed me: when the computer results didn't seem right, she trusted her own expertise and switched to traditional methods. That kind of judgment and humility says a lot. Her assistants Olivia and Rosie were also great - professional, friendly, and happy to answer every question I had. The whole experience was far more tolerable than I'd imagined. Almost fun even. Family friendly optometry practice in Arcadia. And when I say family friendly- I mean my whole family comes here for our yearly vision check ups. I've been coming here since I was in high school and the people working here have mostly stayed the same. Everyone's super friendly, helpful, and nice. I've seen a couple different optometrists over my years here but the quality of care has been consistent across everyone. The people working the front desk are also super friendly and the office will call to remind you about appointments, to pick up your contacts/glasses etc. The process is very standard. You come in, check in at the counter, they check your insurance and ask if you're doing contacts or glasses today, fill out some paperwork, and sit and wait. From there, the assistants will take you to a dark room for some preliminary exams, and then take you to the patient room where the optometrist will wash their hands and then enter to perform the eye exam. Eye exams are generally 15 minutes long (depending on your case) and sometimes include contacts or glasses fittings, putting in drops into your eyes, etc. All the optometrists are great about answering any questions you might have about seeing floaters, tired eyes or dry eyes, LASIK consultation and recommendations, and so much more. Parking here is usually not a problem since there's so many spots, but the spaces are pretty small. It can get crowded during 3-6pm because that's when the local high school students get out. read more

I came to Premier Vision Optometry in Fall of 2022. I suddenly began having blurry vision which was alarming to me. Of note, at the time, I was going through medication changes to address my insomnia as one of my usual meds stopped working. Premier gets one star only and this one star, which really is 5 stars, is for Dr. Kim. She examined me and had great bedside manner, educated me, and treated me with respect. As for the other staff, they are not disrespectful nor are they unprofessional; but, they completely lack any warmth. After my initial examination, they gave me a prescription and attempted to have me purchase new frames from their selection. Personally, I don't care about brand names. I just care about quality and if the glasses look nice on me. I looked at their selection and did not see anything I liked. I opted to use my old frames. They upsold me on the lenses and I paid a great deal of money for what I believed was prescription lenses that could turn into sunglasses. They sent them to the lab and I got my glasses back in several weeks. I could see again but my glasses did not turn black like real sun glasses; they turned a dark grey and only when exposed to sunlight, not in the car. I went back to them and told them of this and they said that the lenses I purchased cannot be truly black like sunglasses and do not work in the car (thank you, I already knew this). I certainly felt gyped. Approximately several weeks later, I put my glasses on and everything was extremely blurry. I was quite confused and realized that one of the medications I was trialing had caused vision problems and since I had discontinued it, my eye sight went back to normal. I came back to Premier with my new concern. At the time, I had not slept in weeks and was quite depressed. During my examination with Dr. Kim, I began to cry in response to a very simple statement she made (I told her I was in graduate school and she stated that must be very difficult given my lack of sleep). She was very calm but warm, and gave me a tissue to dry my eyes. She was patient while I collected myself and when I did, proceeded with her examination. Dr. Kim decided to wait on giving me a new prescription as I was still going through med changes. She told me I was still within the 3 month warranty and to come back again before then to be reexamined. We checked the calendar and booked an appointment for early December 2022. When the time came for the December appointment, I contracted Covid. I called them to inform them and they told me they would reschedule my appointment for the end of December. However, no one told me that would be outside of the 3-month warranty. When I arrived at my appointment having recovered from Covid, they gave me a new prescription and told me that I would have to buy new lenses as I was outside of the warranty time period. I thought this very unfair as I had no control over the fact that I had become ill. I went home with a pair of glasses that did not work. I called Premier back and asked if they could make an exception given my circumstance, to which they said no. They informed me that they send their glasses out to a wholesale lab that do all the work and as such, the warranty was within the purview of this lab. When I asked for the lab's information, they were guarded. They told me they could not provide me with a number or an address as they were the client and not me. They provided me with a name and a city. I let Google do the rest. I found this lab, Empire in North Hollywood. I called them and told them about my situation. The lady I spoke with told me to call back the next day, which I did; I told them that Premier was their client. This person was very cooperative and kind. She told me it was no problem and that she would contact Premier and have this issue sorted out; I would get glasses I could actually see from. I came back to be reexamined and get the correct prescription lenses; they accepted my glasses and replaced the lenses. I took my prescription and went to Warby Parker where I found a pair of prescription sunglasses for $145, half the price of my lenses (that did not work) I paid for at Premier (with my own old frame). I ended up buying a new frame from Warby Parker which has many more stylish, quality designs including a section for individuals with low bridges. The price I paid for these two items was still under what I paid at Premier for a pair of glasses with lenses that did not block out the sun and wherein I used my own frame. I do not recommend coming here. The practitioners may be good but the staff are unkind. I don't understand why no one advocated for me and made the atttempt and effort to get me what I paid for. It felt like I was getting scammed. I had to advocate for myself and that certainly doesn't feel like quality customer service. read more

I chose this optometry due to the yelp ratings. I have to say, yes, the staff is nice but, not necessarily the most professional or ethical. At the end of my exam, I was shown the eyeglasses frame selection. I didn't want to spend anything so I told the employee I want only the frames that my insurance would cover. She re-directed me to a somewhat "isolated" section. LOL. After I chose my frame, she started writing down a bunch of stuff on a piece of paper. When she was done, she told me my co-pay was $150 or $180. I was shocked. I asked why, even with the covered frame?! She proceeded to tell me about the "anti-glare", "anti-scratch" or whatever lens that I did NOT ask for. So I asked her, what's the cheaper option? She looked through her binder and said $51. It was still more than what I wanted to pay, which was NOTHING. Thank goodness my coworker had told me just days before my exam that she would get frames and lens that are fully covered by insurance so I asked about that. That's when she modified the order sheet and zeroed everything out. Had I not known, had I not asked, she was going to gouge me at least $150 for something that I didn't even ask for! After seeing many ophthalmologists over the years, I struck gold when I met with Dr. Kim for the first time. She was warm and calm while intently listening to my visual experience. After I answered her questions and an exam, Dr. Kim held up lenses for me that enabled me to read effortlessly for the first time in my life! That moment was life changing and I was nearly in tears. Dr. Kim also brought up the idea of having progressive lenses, which I had never considered. After she explained how they work and how I would benefit, I decided to give them a try, and I'm so glad that I did. I love them! Dr. Kim patiently answered my many questions and explained how eyes work and the specifics of my eyes in an easy to understand manner. I am very grateful for Dr. Kim and as long as she is available, I will only see Dr. Kim as my ophthalmologist. In addition, the office staff at this practice are fantastic! Rosie is so warm and friendly, as well as very knowledgeable and helpful. She sorted out my insurance and, to top it off, she has a great sense of eyewear design. With her assistance, I chose several pairs of glasses that I love! Olivia, who tested my eyes with different equipment, was also very easy going and friendly, and she explained what was being tested with each devise and let me know what to expect. I have been going to Premier Vision for the past 2 years and the staff members have surpassed my expectations each and every time. I usually call before going in to verify my insurance and both Rosie and Michelle on separate occasions were very helpful in explaining the costs of the exam and how much of the glasses will be covered. Dr. Zhang was very thorough and he took his time to answer all of my questions including my dry eyes after LASIK. The office is very clean and well-organized. It was reassuring to see staff and optometrist disinfect the equipment every time before asking me to place my chin on them (this is a big one for me!!). After my first visit, I decided to take my 95 year old grandpa here to check his eyes and new glasses. Rosie, Michelle, and Dr. Zhang were all very professional and patient while helping my grandpa. Dr. Zhang was very caring and discussed each of his conditions in a way that was easy for us to understand, once in English and then again in Cantonese! Choosing the frames was easy and we did not feel any pressure from the staff. Rosie went over all the lens options we could choose from and my grandpa loved the large frame glasses she recommended. I admit I was not the sweetest person to walk through the door the other day (my mother insisted that I get new glasses because she hates the ones I currently have, even though I only got them recently and the prescription is perfectly fine. Hence, why I was an unhappy camper) but the receptionists remained polite and professional despite my less-than-lovely attitude. The optometrist herself was incredibly welcoming and personable and I felt very comfortable with her during my eye exam. Though the exam itself was quick and easy, I did not feel rushed at all. They have a nice selection of glasses frames to choose from. I was able to find one I liked (and that my mother also approved of) very quickly. I did not have to wait very long at all to see the optometrist at my scheduled appointment time. The office itself is quite small but well kept. This optometry is the place to go! I recently had my eye exam at another optometry (I went to PVO earlier as it was during my move to San Diego and closer by). The eye doc there was great and I ordered some glasses - not bad, but I could totally tell the difference in quality with PVO lenses (the new glasses just did not feel as clear, sharp or comfortable). The PVO ones had great clarity, very light, virtually no glare, and fit perfectly on my face. I asked Dr. Tsai why such a difference and I found out that despite optometry shops carrying the same brand frames, a lot of them use poor quality lenses to cut costs. She stated that PVO always uses high quality lenses and all of the frames from high end brand to low cost are checked and tested for quality, fit, and finish before stocking. She also stated that some optometry shops carry old and discontinued frames (to cut costs as well). I haven't verified this myself at my current optometry, but I've seen some crusty looking optometry storefronts with ancient medical equipment in the San Gabriel area, so I wouldn't doubt it. If my eyes are going to spend most of the day looking through glasses, I don't know about other people on here, but I'd much rather save some money on something else and go with the best lenses. The price wasn't the cheapest at PVO but the difference is absolutely noticeable in a much higher quality lens, well worth it for the long term if you care about your vision. read more

I rarely write reviews about anything other then food, but I felt that Premier Vision definitely deserved one. Last year was my first time with the optometrist and they were more then helpful with all of my issues with my lenses, contact lenses. This year I went in for the LASIK consultation and they were extremely cautious to advise me of all of the pro's / con's of the procedure. In the end I felt a lot more confident about letting them refer me to a doctor that plans to cut my eye open. :X ENJOY! This was the worst experience I've ever had with an optometrist. I had one of the pads of my glasses (I had bought there) fall off. When I brought my glasses in they claimed I must have glued them on which I had not ..it simply fell off and they said that they didn't have a replacement pad and would have to order it and it should take a week. Two weeks later I checked in and they said it hadn't arrived and as they looked at they're computer they said "oh it looks like these glasses are out of stock but they could get me a pair in red. As I'm sure I looked quite puzzled I said" I thought you were ordering me a replacement pad?" "Oh no it's broken from the glue so we ordered a new pair!" I was frustrated and decided to go back to my faithful standby...LensCrafters in the mall (they were under construction before and why I tried this new place). I went in and told them my story and the very friendly front desk person asked if she could see them and took them into the back "come back in 10". I did and the pad was fixed and she said you've been coming here for so many years - no charge". Friendly fast and resourceful - never going back to Premeire and neither should you.
