The mechanic there took it for a ride without me and came back 15 minutes later and told me I needed a new transmission. He would put one in for $7000! I thought I should get a second opinion. I went to Lakeside Transmissions on Groesbeck in Mt Clemens because of all the good reviews they have. The owner of the shop, Jacques, took me with him on a test ride with some instruments. He checked a lot of things and said he didn't get any error codes that indicated anything was wrong, even though he could feel the problem as we drove around. My Escape has over 80,000 miles on it, and I told Jacques that I had never had the transmission fluid changed. He said to call him the next day, so he could do some research. I took my Escape home. When I called Jacques the next day, he asked me to come back. We took my Escape out for another test ride with even more instruments. He still did not get any error codes indicating I needed a new transmission. However, he had an idea of what the problem was and felt that changing the transmission fluid would be the first thing to do. He changed the transmission fluid (at a great price), and the problem went away! My Escape now runs like new! I can't thank him enough for all the time and research he put into trying to give me the right diagnosis. I have never had such a true professional, as Jacques, work on any of my cars before! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND LAKESIDE TRANSMISSIONS!!!

He was friendly. I told him what my brother said about the car. My brother is a retired mechanic. He told me that the car needed shocks, struts, wheel rotation and alignment. Mike called after the inspection and told me I needed $6200 worth of work! The car is a 2011. That's more than the car is worth and I told Mike that. I explained that I didn't have that kind of money and needed to keep it under $2000. He said ok and refigured it so he was only doing what I had asked and said he would bring it in way under what he had quoted me in July which was $1890, like in the neighborhood of $1818. His words, not mine. When I picked up my car I scanned the receipt. I didn't see that he didn't do the wheel rotation or alignment! It came in JUST under the quote BUT he hadn't done all that he quoted me and AGREED to the day before! So FIRST he tried to RIP ME OFF FOR A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY and then he didn't do the work that he had agreed to! I don't know. After listening to Dave (who took a fair amount of time for me as he was leaving at the end of the day), I decided to stay with my periodic trans checks and simply replace the fluid lost during those checks with fresh fluid.
