I stumbled across this place while on my search for some hangover food. The menu is full of interesting choices and the prices are very affordable. I really love their ranch dressing and cheesesteak sandwich. The fries were crispy and delicious. Being the glutton that I am, I also had the chorizo breakfast burrito smothered in green chili. I didn't really care for the green chili. I suspect that they use the store-bought stuff. However, the burrito was really big and the chorizo was pretty tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. The waitstaff is quick and friendly. A definite plus when your head feels like it's going to explode from the previous night's binge drinking session. read more

I was torn whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars. When we came here, we were very hopeful that it would be really good. There was quite a wait, but we have no problem waiting for good food. Let me start by saying that the service we had was amazing. Our waitress was so kind, and made sure all of our needs were met. She even took time to sit at our table while we were ordering, which I really like. It shows that you are their priority in that moment. The reason I was torn between 3 and 4 stars is because of their biscuits. I've rarely had a biscuit as good as theirs. They were hot off the griddle, perfectly cooked, and very tasty. These along with their gravy made for one hell of a meal. Everything else though was very average. Nothing was inedible, and I would be happy to get this food from somewhere like Denny's, however, my expectations were much higher given their reviews and the line at the door. Just like all the rest, I wanted to like this place. I have tried breakfast and lunch and both are terrible. First off they're "hash browns" are horrendous. They're greasy and heavy, and the homemade sausage is strange. After that I thought that I would never have to eat there again, but my husband received a gift certificate for his birthday. So we decided to give lunch a try. Lunch was actually worse than breakfast. We had a chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger, altogether it was $22.00! Again the "fries" were cold, limp and greasy and BROWN. The card was for 25.00 and they would not give us change to leave a tip. This place is not a true diner. After 4 months abroad, I needed some real diner food asap. So after reading the reviews, my boyfriend and I went to Doug's Diner to celebrate. I got the Ranchers (Doug's Breaded Steak, Browns, Country Gravy, Three Eggs & Griddle Biscuit) and my boyfriend got the Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito. The country gravy on my dish was incredible and the biscuits were perfectly crispy, flakey, and fluffy. Our plates were also so big we had to save half of it for take out. I believe they may have a grandmother locked up in the basement of this establishment in order to make such wonderful home cooked meals. I was thoroughly impressed with everything my husband and I ordered. Everything I tasted had a different flavor and nothing was bland. My favorite was the home made jam. Finally got to try this place. The Wife and I have wanted to come here for a while but it seems that every time we try, the line is out the door. This morning, we must have caught it at just the right time. We were able to park right up front, walk in and get seated right away, no wait! Doug's is quite small inside and the decor is warm and friendly, like some place you would find in a small mountain town. Nothing like you would expect from looking at the outside (Strip mall). The Hostess was friendly and our Server was very pleasant as well. A very "Homey" feel to the place! My Wife had the "Sweet Combo" with Pancakes, eggs and bacon. She said it was very good. Very large portion, she was unable to finish it all. I had the "Taos" which is a mountain of "Browns" with chorizo, turkey and green chili sausage and onions all smothered in two different cheeses, green chili and two eggs on top, served with a warm tortilla. So good! another huge portion, I tried very hard but could not finish it, though I wanted too as it tasted heavenly! We wanted to love this place as it is so close to home, and we really did! I predict that we will be returning very soon. I'm not at all sure why there are negative reviews for this restaurant, the prices are very affordable ($24 for my wife and I), the service was awesome and the food was delicious. Doug's is the best breakfast joint in town! If you're nearby I highly recommend it. Except a wait, it's popular with the locals, but the wait is well worth it. I've heard about this place for a while from family and friends, but never had the time to go, so the other day I found time, and boy was it good! The service was excellent, and the coffee kept coming! Here is why you should go: * Locally sourced ingredients. This makes a world of difference to the quality. * Handmade, from scratch...everything! The biscuits are made, then put on the griddle to crust up...mix that with gravy, eggs, bacon and hash browns, and it's heaven on a plate! Don't like gravy on your biscuits? Try the jam...it is made by the owners mom! Yea...you gotta try that, right! This location is in Aurora, but he is opening like 3 more all around. If you see one, go in...Don't think, just go in. We were taken to Doug's Day Diner by some friends who live in the area. It is tucked away in a little strip mall area and is a little hard to find if you didn't know where it is. Clearly, others have no problem finding it is because it was really busy and I was told that the place gets packed and there can be a wait. I can see why. The menu is filled with all kinds of delicious items. One thing they tout is that everything is fresh, original, and delicious. After enjoying my meal here I can confirm that this is true. Everything on my plate was wonderful. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was thick and cooked to crispy perfection. I'm not a big fan of hash browns, but these ones were great. They also serve what feels like a 5 pound biscuit with most everything (no joke, they're dense and pack some heft). The biscuits are mouth watering and served with their delicious homemade jams. My fellow diners' food looked amazing as well and I wanted to snatch a bite off of each of their plates. If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault. We even took some of the food home because it was that delicious and we couldn't finish it all. OK I went back after almost a year, it seems Dougs is almost 2 different places, people love it or it is so so. Put me in the so so category, first 2.00 for real maple syrup? my wife says we give you the crappy stuff for free but charge for the good stuff!! Also the waitress asked if we wanted homemade jam, my first thought was Smuckers is free but the good stuff costs more again, I did not find an extra charge for the jam but who knows. Getting down to the food, I had a Tomato, Spinach and bacon Omelet, with Swiss Cheese. the Tomatoes were diced so small I could never really taste them, Dougs serves some nice thick cut bacon, but mine was chopped so fine and had no taste it could have been corned beef from corned beef has and I could not tell you, the Spinach was in such short supply it was hardly there. Swiss cheese was stuck on top of the omelet where it just kind of slid off. Wife chose the Sharon Omelet, Onions, Peppers, Spinach Tomatoes, Sour Cream, Sprouts, and Guacamole with egg beaters hers was nearly twice as tall as mine but the height came from a large serving of raw sprouts. Sprouts can have a very earthy taste when they are raw and that is how they were. The omelets are the type where they get a circle of eggs cooking then toss in the ingredients then fold and serve. I prefer to have all the items cooked or heated up together then added to the omelet. One other thing even though we went there early 8:00 AM the Ketchup bottle at our table was nearly empty. Simply fantastic breakfast, always crowded. The Green chili on anything is fantastic. The breakfast burrito so generous it hangs off the plate. The inlet yes are great, biscuits and gravy top notch. You can sit at a table or sit at the counter and read complementary newspaper while you eat. Love that. Local place, not a chain. Service excellent, get there early for prompt seating. read more

I truly am a fan---The breakfast burrito was AMAZING. It is gigantic and the ingredients quality. Again, I don't eat pork and was able to enjoy green chili--Though it isn't that spicy. I ordered Carne Asada. I will say ti is truly Carne Guisada--More of a boiled or stewed meat then pan friend. However it was still awesome!! Cut with your fork tender and very tasty. I now know why they are only open until 2pm. If you eat there for breakfast or lunch, you don't need to eat the rest of the day!!! Thank you for the great quality and the nice portion size! Stopped by here the other day for a quick breakfast. The food was very good, and all components (including hash browns) seemed to be made totally from scratch. Prices were standard for a good breakfast - not excessive, but not quite "diner" level pricing either ($10ish per plate). The place was very well staffed, I counted at least 5-6 employees, but the service at my table was somewhat inattentive. My coffee ran dry on a couple of occasions and I had to have someone down for assistance. There were lots of servers, but many of them appeared to be chatting with other servers rather than attending to their tables. All told, I'll be back for the food, but the spotty service is standing in the way of a 5 star. I'll update this if I have a different experience next time. read more

The first time I was at Doug's I think I was hungrier than this time. I met a friend for brunch and our server was very patient and accommodating, recognizing that he wasn't going to be able to turn our table over quickly. So he mostly let us be. Instead of breakfast, I opted for the spicy Reuben. It came piled with corned beef and I loved the spicy slaw that was on it. It was a really nice combination and, like all of the food here at Doug's, very filling. Definitely try their homemade chips - they are terrific! The warnings are true: weekends will have you waiting for a seat. Mid-week, though, the place is a bit more laid back so you can enjoy a big, satisfying and leisurely breakfast or lunch. I love Doug's and I'm a tough customer. I rarely eat out because I find most restaurants disappointing. Restaurant food is mostly pre-pared and processed and doesn't taste good. It fails to nourish my body or my soul. Doug's does both. They make almost all of their food in- house and it shows. It's delicious and wonderfully varied and creative. The staff is delightful. My family and I just finished having a brunch and enjoyed the chicken fried steak, A Zia bird sandwich, a black Betty burger, and a crunchy bird sandwich. The fries however were very dry and old tasting, as if they had been reheated. I was disappointed that the restroom is constructed in such a way that after washing your hands and attempting to dry them under the cold air dryer, The door needed to be opened by grabbing the dirty handle. It makes me wonder how many wait staff have clean hands that are handling the food in your establishment. I felt it was important to identify those two things. read more

What can I say about this place.... Well, I love it!! It is awesome!! Doug must be from New Mexico cause that is exactly why my hubby brought me here. He is from NM and this place is just like home to him. They proudly sport the "Christmas tree" that is 1/2 green chili and 1/2 red chili atop a pile of potatoes or papas. If it is your first time you gotta try the papas but be warned it is a big portion. The chili either one (red or green) are hot. Meaning Doug is from NM and New Mexico Mexicans don't eat their chili like us Denver Mexicans (we like it really hot). But don't let that stop you from eating here their chili tastes darn good unlike most of these restaurants (i.e. The Rock) who have no business selling chili. We are so happy Doug opened up in our neck of the woods, now we just need some place to start selling really good HOT chili and Centennial will be a fun place to live. You gotta try Doug's it is really good. But I do have one serious complaint. His password to the wifi is the GBPackers??? WHAT??? This is a reminder to you Doug -- THIS IS BRONCO COUNTRY (I won't tell my hubby what you have done). Just change it.... Name your password something like, "Radierhater" that is pretty neutral. What can I say that hasn't been said? The food is just ridiculously good! The biscuits have great flavor and density, homemade jams and syrups, perfect potatoes piled high, and oh, that green chili! And the serving sizes? You may think like I did at first that "Day Diner" referred to the hours of operation. That very well may be, but I've got it in my head it has more to do with the fact that should you manage to consume the average meal here, you should pretty much consider yourself DONE dining for the day! In fact, if you don't walk out with a little box, you just might want to consider taking to a nutritionist about trying to get your life right! That said, I can tell you from personal experience, the food here is good enough, you may just find yourself partaking in that one or two last bites past your fill. So, why the missing star? Mostly hoping to get the owner's attention to one key issue: the wait. Now, I can hardly begrudge a good restaurant being popular and the staff really does a tremendous job of balancing the needs of a hungry, often standing room only, group of anxious onlookers and the awesome service they consistently show their happily grubbing guests. Still, the business is literally turning away customers--a LOT of them! Having stood in the line when it's been out the door, I've watched the cars drive by as the passengers shake their heads and then hang them knowing they are on their way to a lesser breakfast. It's tragic, but perhaps not past hope. Or at least, I hope so, anyway. See, when I was here last, I spotted a sign saying the next spot in the building was available. Perhaps, if every one of the probably very few people who've ventured this far into this epic tome were to mention the idea of purchasing the adjacent space and knocking down the wall, then maybe we might one day all be able to find a seat at the table. The first time I visited Doug's Diner was with family for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning about 11am. The food & service was outstanding! The griddle biscuits with homemade jam is simply to die for. The second time I visited was on a Wednesday about 12:30 in the afternoon. The place was almost empty. I ordered a burger and fries. Sadly, I can't say the same about the food OR the service when I went for lunch. It wasn't bad... but it wasn't great. I think it was simply because the bar had been set so high on my first visit that it would have been difficult to match my first time. I definitely recommend breakfast there. Lunch? This review is probably a 3.5 but I'll give them the benefit of the extra half star. First off, the food is incredible. Their papas are the best thing in the brunching world. Their browns (potatoes) and unique, crispy and soak up their amaZing green Chile. I also love their biscuits and their pancakes (a standard, soft yummy pancake but nothing insane like praline bourbon (see my Four Friends review). They have good coffee and although they don't take reservations, they usually have a shorter wait than most places... 30-40 mins. They also have huge drinks so even if something isn't bottomless, it probably won't make a huge diff. You prob won't need a refill. I'm a little disappointed because usually their service is Impreccable! I mean, no flaws, aspire to it impeccable. Today... less so. They served all the food at my table and somehow missed mine... I ended up waiting over 30 mins after the rest of the food was served. I got an omelette. It was nothing to write home about. It was also cold. And delivered without so much as an apology. We have been going to Dougs for a year now and it is our favorite breakfast joint in Denver, and we are breakfast people! The food at Dougs is AMAZING. I had the breakfast quesadilla, OH MAN, awesome! The service is always spot on. Today we had Page, and she was super personable, funny, and welcoming. There is always the lovely happy girl who is at the front (with dark hair who is kind of running the show), she always comes to our table and plays with our son. We have been to this restaurant before. The food is really good and they give you plenty of it. I guess the only downside is on the weekends this restaurant is extremely busy. There is always a wait and once you are seated...it will be awhile before your food gets to you. Don't get me wrong, it's not the service. The service is good and prompt, think the problem is in the kitchen, gets backed up. Guess the price you pay for good food. They have a lot of menu options, if you like chile they do a really good job, I always order Christmas(red and green combined). Has really good flavor with just the right amount of heat. They do a good job with the kids menu as well, lots of options. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, which is a bummer. Never had anything I didn't like, def bring your appetite. read more

It kind of pains me to do this, because I used to love Doug's, but the place has been a dumpster fire of awfulness lately. They only have one server on in the mornings, and the wait times have become ridiculous. On top of that, the food has been less than stellar, culminating in the food poisoning I got yesterday. Asked for the basic, got eggs that were super runny (asked for scrambled), and bacon that was literally raw. Potatoes were under-cooked too, and even the biscuit seemed like it never went in an oven somehow. I've now been sick for over 24 hours. I'd like to say it's a one-off, but this has become a pattern.
