We had been to the original location in Caldwell several times over the years and finally remembered to try the new Dough when doing our usual "where should we go tonight" routine. This place has always been consistent, with the freshest "farm to table" ingredients and impeccable service. With that said, the meal we had today was on another level. We started with the tuna, and burrata with peaches, and for entrees got the dry aged strip steak, and green eggs and ham, followed by the key lime pie. First, let me say that both Pamela and Ethan were stellar servers. Attentive and happy to offer a recommendation. I took Pamela's recommendation and ordered the Clam Pappardelle. Every bite kept me wanting more and more. A delicious sauce, and the corn is a welcome crunchy addition to this dish. Ethan recommended the blueberry key lime pie for dessert. It was scrumptious...tart from the lime, but the sweetness of the blueberry compote balanced it perfectly. And so refreshing, since we were sitting outside. Take note: if you don't make a reservation, you will more thank likely be seated outside. There is plenty of room outdoors though and the ambiance matches up with the indoor space, so there's no downfall there. Overpriced. Ordered a Margherita and a white pie for entrees, meatballs for appetizer. Pies were ok, meatballs were good but shrunk? And I mean eat in 2 bites shrunk based on the photos I saw from another reviewer. We had to order 2 orders after seeing the first served. And for $17? I would have expected that price for pasta and meatballs or maybe a decent portion. Not three little meatballs per order that look like the Swedish meatballs from IKEA (no seriously--and those taste better!). For dessert, had the coconut cake and strawberry cake. The coconut cake was dense, too sweet, not what I expected. The strawberry cake was really just pound cake with whipped cream and strawberries. I would probably not come back. I was a big fan of Dough when it was located on Bloomfield Avenue in the Caldwell area. It had a charming outdoor patio that was great for dining al fresco. The restaurant has since moved to a large building on a busy road in Fairfield. The pizza is still good (probably 4 stars for the food), but the new location lost all its character. The decor is "cookie cutter trendy restaurant" and now feels more like a chain restaurant than a local favorite. I'll go back, but will not be as frequent of a customer. For a similar style pizza and better ambiance, I prefer some of the spots in Montclair. read more

I don't understand why some people make a big deal about this restaurant. The food is mediocre at BEST . The waitstaff are so young they do not know how to speak professionally . We were ignored - having to flag down our server - to beg for any type of service . We were seated for over 20 minutes before we had a drink in front of us . We had a margarita pizza - which was overpriced for the quality and taste . The sauce on the pies is WAY to salty and I believe their chef think garlic is the only spice to use . The ambiance is great and warm and welcoming .. but whats up with patriotic vibe - what does all of that have to do with the decor of the rest of the restaurant . BYOB. We brought a bottle of red wine. The food did not disappoint. My fiancée loved the salad I thought it needed a little more dressing. The pizza was amazing the crust was cooked just right. Brownie wasn't anything special but still tasted good. The tables outside were full so we sat inside. Our server Kevin was incredible. Super nice and always gave us time when we needed it. No longer BYO - I can live with that, but the service was poor (slow, bad timing, impossible to find our waiter if we even knew who it was, since 4-5 different people seemingly filled the role). I understand wanting to maximize the number of patrons, but it's a bit mood killer when you are less than two feet away from the table next to you. I wasn't crazy about seeing a request to put a time limit on dining when I made a reservation - again, it just makes it look like the business is more interested in how many parties they can get in to make the most money than the satisfaction of the customer. We ordered all the food picture below plus a Mac and cheese for 4 people Mushroom pizza 5/5 as long as you like mushrooms and truffle Sausage pizza 4/5 Zucchini bites- 4/5 dipping sauce was really good, breading could use a little more flavor. It probably would taste better in person so it doesn't get soggy from the condensation in the box Beets, butternut squash and burrata- 5/5 delicious! If you like burrata you'll like this Brussel sprout salad 3/5. The flavors were good I wish the Brussel sprouts were roasted or something and not raw Mac and cheese- 3/5 lacked flavor. Went there for first time in this location. Nice design inside. NIce bar area. Has a rustic, tuscan vibe minus the overflow of fake flowers!! Wasnt really getting the vibe!! A lot of families with kids and loud dining area which I dont mind. Had a beer, pizza and beet salad. All were fresh. We let the steaming pizza cool down a bit before biting into it as the toppings were just sliding off leaving us with a piece of bread!!! The wait staff is all young and they need some training. Asked for a few things multiple times and eventually would get what we needed. They would come to the table one after another and then not again for a time. Lol, they will improve with experience. At same time, we asked for the check again. The check didn't come for another 15 minutes before we gave up and tried to see the manager. All of sudden the waiter tried to bribe us a free pizza.... Went here with friends and wasn't expecting anything more than a typical Pizza joint, however, I was very pleasantly surprised. The appetizers, especially the Ahi tuna was excellent as were the sourdough and focaccia breads. The Buratta was very good but the bed of watermelon bruschetta was a little over done. Maybe when watermelon season is over it will move to a true Italian bruschetta. I was very tempted to try the wings and will get them next time. The pizza was very good thin crust and delivered quickly but I would have hoped the chef could be a little more generous with the sausage topping. Having said all that the big problem I had with this place was the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing. It was a disaster because it not only didn't taste like blue cheese but it was smothered with it. Like someone spilled a bottle of milk over it. I would have loved a crumbly blue cheese dressing instead, which is what I hoped for when I ordered it. I will not make the mistake of ordering that again but I will try this place again. read more

The Stracciatella plate had beets in it and it was good to eat on its own, we asked for bread for it, very cheap up charge I recall and it was delicious. The pie was one of the best breakfast pies I've had, I think they put just a touch of syrup as well on top and it was a great balance. Recently came here for outdoor dining. We had made a reservation and were seated at the front of the restaurant. We asked to be moved to the back patio area and the host was able to move us with no problems. The back patio area is very nice, and the garden in the back is nice to see. We ordered the zucchini crisps to start and they were absolutely amazing! Not too thick, and very very crispy. The dipping sauce that it came with added nice flavor as well. The Caesar salad was very fresh and crisp as well. And the small portion is more than enough for one person. As for the pizza, it's delicious! One pie is good for one person.
