Holy smokes! My family and I experienced Lisa West's Double Nickel this evening for dinner, and holy smokes, what a meal! We received exceptional service, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We celebrated three birthdays, including our eldest son's, who passed away in October. The service staff mentioned him by name multiple times, and we all agreed that he would love The Double Nickel. The kitchen staff cooked our steaks and fish to perfection, and the variety of sides completed the meal. I had a New York Strip, crusted with peppercorns, and dressed with peppercorn sauce, Spinach Rockefeller, and sauteéd mushrooms. Amazing. read more

The service is good and on a normal day the food is great but the reason I gave three stars is because I feel like a restaurant on this level should understand that busy days are just as important, when I have gone on weekends or fridays at least one person in my groups food has come out cold and the service was slow. This is one of the better steakhouses in Lubbock. Double nickel has your typical old and eclectic decor. Food was good Drinks were a little bit over poured, but the dessert made up for it My only complaint was when the server mentioned the lobster bisque was more like tomato soup with lobster essence not a good look. Called in for 5:45 reservation for 2 on a Tuesday night. Was sat in a booth in the bar right by the waiters station. It was a noisy and high traffic area for the staff. They have a TV in the bar. That's an odd feature for a highend steak house (in my opinion). The hostess was friendly and the waitress talked really fast but she was a nice girl. Ordered the crab cake for an appetizer and had the wedge salad and a filet with upgraded broccoli and mashed potatoes. The crab cake was $26 and looked like a dip rather than a crab cake. I would not order it again. The wedge salad was good. It came with croutons and eggs which was an unusual variation on a classic wedge salad. The filet was tender and tasty. The broccoli didn't look that hot, tasted ok. The mashed potatoes were good. They included a fried cheese stick which tasted like rancid oil. I didn't like that but the steak, potatoes and salad were good. This was my first experience here. I had heard good things. Unfortunately, I think it's way overpriced for the experience and quality of the food. Our bill was $171 (excluding the tip) and we did not have any alcohol. I don't know if I'd go back. If I go back, I'll just have lower expectations and won't order the crab cake. read more

Heard good things about this place so my boyfriend and I decided to eat there for our anniversary. We booked a reservation for 8:00pm, and came in about 7:55pm. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait despite our reservation. We decided to share a steak and order an extra side of french fries on top of the two sides that come with our steak. When we got our food, we received about a handful of french fries that were lukewarm, which was disappointing considering it was an extra $9. The other two sides were also small portions which didn't live up to the price of the meal. However, the food was good especially the steak! We've been coming quite often. The food is consistent. We ordered a 6oz lobster tail each as an appetizer. We prefer butter poached, but DK can only broil the tails. The big issue for us was the wine. We come here for the wine and always order Quintessa and are happy to pay 250$ a bottle. We asked about Quintessa and we were told it was now 500$ a bottle. You must be kidding me. There is no way the cost to DK doubled. Mediocre lobster, our wine doubled,...The funny thing, we ordered a bottle of Far Niente and it was 300$ a bottle. We would have gladly paid 300$ for the Quintessa. I don't think we will be back. read more

*If you want fine dining, go somewhere else!!!* I want to start by saying, our server was top notch!! Willing to make anything and everything right! I wish the total of our bill could have gone to him and not the place that employs him. We unknowingly consumed raw bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer. The bacon was cooked, but the shrimp was grey. How is that even possible?? Our server was just as appalled as we were, and it was clearly just a mistake, so we didn't panic. He offered us some house salads and to remove the shrimp from the bill. We agreed. The steak was bearable but nothing special, certainly not worth the hefty price tag!! The way they plate their food is always such a letdown. Creamed corn (obviously made with chewy frozen corn) slopped all over the plate like the 8th grade cafeteria is just so unimpressive!Ever heard of a ramekin Lisa? The cheese stick on the side is downright tacky. If I wanted a crappy cold cheese stick, I would've gone to Spanky's! While enjoying my meal at this "high end" steakhouse, I look over my shoulder to find a giant COCKROACH crawling all over the table next to us! (See pictures). Their streaks are the best in town, in fact, as good as any we have had anywhere in the US. Their service is top notch. Professional and very attentive. We are definitely fans of DN, and even when we have not had a totally perfect experience, we still come back because the service is very good and the food is some of the best in Lubbock. Tonight we started with the crab stuffed mushrooms (and don't forget the complimentary bread), and then I had the Alaskan salmon fillet with the spinach rockefeller, steamed broccoli, and a house salad. My husband had the ribeye with creamed corn and mashed potatoes, and then for dessert, we split a slice of cheesecake with caramel sauce on the side. The food was amazing, across the board. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server, Marley, was exceptional. She, along with the help of two others, kept our experience completely flawless. After more than a decade since our last visit my wife and I chose Double Nickel for our anniversary last night, and we're glad we did. Our salads were OK, we had a wedge and a Caesar. Our entrees, however, were excellent. I had a ribeye and my wife had a filet. Both steaks were exemplary cuts and both were cooked perfectly. The sides were also delicious - simple, creamed corn and whipped potatoes and snap peas, nicely prepared with good portions. We had the Bananas Foster for dessert and as good as the steaks were, that's the thing we're still talking about the next day. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are already looking forward to our next visit. I'd have given the place five stars except for two things. First, as I mentioned, the salads were only OK. Dressings weren't very flavorful and presentation was very plain. For the prices they're charging they should be better. Second, and this may seem silly to some, but I believe that for these prices and quality the whole dining room should not have to have their eyes drawn to the two televisions in the bar. They didn't even have games on, they were just playing Sportscenter. I've eaten at a lot of steakhouses, and none of them have TV's visible from the dining room. So you can go through my reviews and you see I eat at a lot of pretty nice steak houses. Sort of my thing. I do not recall coming to a place this expensive and giving a one star review before. But here we go. Absolutely avoid at all costs. They think they are on par with a Morton's or a Ruth's Chris and I've had better service and steaks at a Denny's at 3 AM. I loved the atmosphere of this place! Its pretty much as upscale as Lubbock gets, although I wish they had a dress code. It sucked that I was all dressed up and people were there in jeans. Our waiter Avery was very attentive and very polite. He was a little slow from time to time despite the fact that there were only probably 7 other parties in the restaurant, but he took good care of us. Overall, though, the wait staff were very unprofessional when away from their guests. They were more interested in watching the Tech/OU game than serving, and they were VERY loud. One of them yelled "DAAAMN" when OU scored. This was supposed to be a nice meal. I was thoroughly impressed by the food. We ordered the Filet Points, a 12 Oz Medium Rare Ribeye with whipped potatoes and creamed corn, and a chocolate cake for dessert for my birthday. This meal was absolutely delicious. They cooked my steak perfectly and it was so full of juicy flavor. The filet on the points was incredibly tender. My wife and I had dined at the Double Nickel twice before, and were not entirely impressed. However, it had been a long time, and it was our 24th anniversary, so we decided to give it another shot. I'm very pleased we did. I began by ordering a Bloody Maria, extra hot and spicy. A few minutes later, our waiter brought my drink and told me that, instead of just adding extra Tabasco to kick up the heat, they had added minced serrano pepper. The Bloody Maria was delicious. But what impressed me most was that the bartender used his wits on the spur of the moment and went the extra mile to produce the requested beverage. For my meal, I had the strip--medium-rare--with a blue cheese crown, creamed corn and sauteed mushrooms. I also had a glass of zinfandel, which, sadly is hard to find these days even in decent steakhouses. The steak was prepared to utter perfection, the corn was delish and not too sweet, and the mushrooms were on the money. And the wine was superb. My wife had the sea bass with asparagus, and was as pleased with her meal as I was with mine. Now the Double Nickel has always been a beautiful restaurant--along with Rave On and Escondido Grill, one of the most attractive restaurants in Lubbock--but based upon our latest visit, the food is now the equal of the atmosphere. I used to think Lubbock didn't have a truly top-class steakhouse. But I may be revising that opinion. The Double Nickel was the equal of Bob's in Dallas and CC's City Broiler in Columbia, Missouri, and that's about the highest praise I can offer.
