Very spacious steakhouse with separated dining areas. They are apparently known for their bread which was good, but aromatic. The restaurant smelled a bit "off" and I realized it was the bread! The steak was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Both of our steaks were slightly overdone but still tasty. The service was fair. And not for any lack of effort of our server. She calmly walked the room but I watched her actually run once she got into the hallway. As the restaurant got busier, she ran faster. It felt like an understaffing issue. It took a while for my friend's cocktails and wine to arrive but we managed to get everything together before it was time to pay the bill. This wouldn't be my first or last choice for a steakhouse. On a scale of 0 to 5, five being the highest and 0 the lowest I gave the experience a rating of 1.2 due to the following reasons: * We called the resort in the morning to make reservations and after being placed on hold for ~7 minutes were told to call back when the restaurant was open at 5:00. I assign it a score of 0 to analyze the customer journey. * When we arrived for our reservation at 6:15, there was entertainment in the front bar and dining area. We were escorted to the back of the restaurant, away from the entertainment and were seated at a table surrounded by a sea of families. My rating for the ambiance is zero. * My husband ordered the rib eye, and I ordered the pork chop. Both were seasoned well. A side dish of creamed spinach was ordered that was the consistency of a spinach dip. We ordered 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine. No dessert was ordered. The cost was ~$169.00. We ordered the 40 oz tomahawk steak which we chose mashed potatoes, lobster mac & cheese and grilled asparagus. Ordered tomahawk steak medium rare which it was but it had no flavor on the tough side and was dry. The lobster Mac and cheese was dry and some of the pasta was hard, the potatoes were dry but the grilled asparagus was good. They should have been seated another place then where they were. I know what you're thinking... why would she make this statement. First time having Dinner at Double Cut Steak House!we loved everything we ordered. Hubby and son had filet's. I had the prime rib sandwich, which was huge. Maybe a little too much bread though. I pulled off the bread and mostly ate the meat. The meat, veggies, and cheese were good. My son and Husband loved their filet mignon steaks. Our favorite side was the hash brown. The mushrooms were good and we brought home most of the baked potato and asparagus because we all loved the hash brown so much. Since it was my husband's birthday we got a complimentary dessert. The bartender/server asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered a drink and a Pellegrino water. He then asked if we wanted lime or lemon. My husband and I both said "thank you" because we didn't clearly hear the question. He responded with, "I asked you a question--why are you saying thank you?" I apologized and said lemon. He laughed and said, "I'm an asshole." We were completely shocked that he actually said that to us. He then walked away, and 20 minutes passed with no drinks. We called him back over and told him we were ready to order. We repeated our drink order for the second time and placed our food order. He wrote everything down. After 30 more minutes, still no drinks and no food. My husband asked if he had forgotten our drinks. He said no, but then came back a few minutes later and asked what our drinks were--so we repeated our order for the third time. Throughout all of this, he never once checked on us or asked if we needed anything. Another 20 minutes later, we asked about our food. He said he would go check in the back, but he never actually did. After 1 hour and 20 minutes, we decided to leave. We were only served one drink, and our food never arrived. The restaurant was also not very busy, which made the situation even more disappointing. Please treat people better. Wife and I went here for a romantic meal. I feel like this setting misses the mark just a bit. Fake plastic candles on the table, kids running around in circles and adults wearing flip flops etc. it's in the middle of a kids water park so I understand why they are there, but I'm paying too much to endure the shenanigans is how I feel about it. Now I must say, my steak was excellent and the wife's was great as well. I had the Wagyu strip, she had a fillet. Both cooked to our request and we tried a trio of sauces. Bernaise, Bordelaise and chimchurri. The chimchurri could use a little work but the other two were good. We also ordered the "hanging bacon", which was far too sweet - seriously need to lighten up on the syrup glaze. We also had the burnt ends appetizer which was excellent- highly recommend this one. And the speed with which our steaks came out was almost suspicious given the filet was ordered medium-well which usually elicits a plea to butterfly that cut - which they did not (pleased)! I had the lobster bisque and the BLT wedge for dinner, so tasty! My friend had the French onion soup and the steakhouse Caesar salad, delicious as well. Ronnie was playing the piano and entertaining everyone but it wasn't overwhelming, the perfect mix of music and restaurant noise. My boyfriend and I wanted to save one day to have a "fancy" dinner. We got all dressed up and everything thinking we were going to have a nice dining experience. Then they brought us bread which was super crumbly and you had to cut the entire loaf yourself which normally whatever but it didn't really match the vibe they were attempting to give off ... then we started with the edamame my boyfriend order a steak and I ordered scallops and we both ordered broccoli to share (side dishes a La carte ) . The edamame was decent but took awhile to come out. Another thing that was very odd is they serve lukewarm water. The waitress only came to our table one time besides taking our initial order. The steak was pretty good I'm not going to lie but was it worth 60 dollars, sorry no and I will say I have had some steaks here in Texas that definitely are worth 60 dollars. The scallops however were the worst scallops I have ever had priced at 48 dollars. You will get a total of 4 scallops... and mine were unfortunately Sandy, rubbery, and fishy. Double Cut Steakhouse: More Like Double Missed We went to Double Cut last night, and let's just say the experience was... well, a cut below expectations. First off, they tried to convince me that my New York strip was a ribeye. Nice try, but I've seen enough steak to know when it's trying to impersonate another cut. Meanwhile, my wife's filet? Charred into what I can only describe as the love child of beef jerky and a hockey puck. Crunchy on the outside, crunchy on the inside--definitely not the filet we ordered. To their credit, they took my steak back to "show the chef" (probably as an example of how not to swap steaks), but the filet was left to suffer in silence, untouched and unredeemed. The waiter? Super friendly. The food? Super not. We're local, we come to Kalahari often, and have dined here a few times, but last night was like they were hosting a bad steakhouse parody. The event room next to us wasn't helping either--with staff scooting chairs around and hollering like they were hosting a musical chairs competition. For what we paid, there are plenty of places nearby that know how to cook a steak and keep the furniture moving to a minimum.
