Experience: stopped for a quick lunch since we were right by here at Walgreens. It was about 11:15 on a Thursday. Facility: it's a small little dive located in a strip mall. It feels like one of those diners were everyone is a regular. They have tables and chairs and it's a little crowded. They also have some bar seating. Service: you seat yourself. No one acknowledged me when I came in, so I found a waitress and asked if I just seat myself, and she said yes. A waitress come over soon after and took our order. Service was good and food came out quick. Food: I wanted to order many things from the menu. But I settled on Catfish with grits and hashbrowns. It's was ok. It kind of had an unusual batter for catfish but it was fine, but the fish was brined tasting. Definitely needs a buttermilk soak. Grits were good but a little runny for my taste... and hashbrowns were kind of bland and not as crispy as I like. So basically, everything else's good, but not amazing. My friend had meatloaf and made a big mixed pile on his plate (sorry I didn't get photo before his creation). Overall: I will be back... Many may not give the restaurant five stars simply because it's a very simple place. Nothing fancy with the decor but it's very clean and comfortable. This place has been around a long time and you can tell it's a local favorite! We split the Spanish farmers omelette, which was excellent. I love Dotties. Just there yesterday and had the shrimp special. It was wonderful. Never had a bad meal there. I'm not much of a breakfast eater but I love their veggie omelette. This is one of my favorite places to have breakfast with my husband. Ever since I moved to the area I've been wanting to find a nice breakfast place. The servers are always so welcoming and kind. It's the perfect local breakfast spot with the right feeling when you're there. You can tell it was made to feel like home. The food is always good every time I've gone. It was a 3.96 oz Grilled Chicken Breast w/ 2.56 oz sliced Tomatoes, approx 1/2 cup Applesauce, approx 1/4 cup Cottage Cheese, & a Pickle... I say it this way because I am a Bariatric patient who is at a healthy BMI and I wanna stay there! This is the PERFECT meal and looks Beautiful... I am including the stats on this meal only - 265 Calories, 5.2 Fat, 2.2 Fiber, 11.3 Carbs, 314 Sodium, & 41.5 Protein... The hostess & waitress were both Wonderful & Kind! They both made sure we had everything we needed. The coffee was always fresh and my husband loved that tremendously! The Restaurant was Clean & everyone working seemed happy to be there. This particular restaurant has been here nigh onto 20 years. Their particular claim to fame is that they host the Palm Bay Lions Club monthly meetings, but unfortunately, they are not well-known for their creative menu or fresh ingredients, as you would expect a restaurant to be known for its food and not for its meetings. However, one thing that they create above-average is the non-homemade biscuit. I'm not sure who their purveyor of biscuits is, but it is not the Sysco pull-and-microwave you see at other low-rent dives. Other positives here are that the home fries were cooked properly - not something you see on a regular basis - and the eggs were also prepared well. Finally, I need to mention the country fried steak. This specimen was the corporate hockey puck version you loyal followers have heard me lament about so often. In capable hands, it can be cooked to mask the mealy flavor so common in this offering, but sadly, smothering loads of sausage gravy didn't do the trick in this case. Our server Krystal was a bright spot in the dark, dank confines of Dottie's. A real pleasure, she was prompt and attentive. Every server should be like Krystal - happy, friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, she is the exception to the norm in diners like Dottie's. He's diabetic and he's blood sugar sky rocketed...so thanks Dottie's for ruining he's day tryin to get he's blood sugar down. As far as greasy spoon diners go, this one is my favorite. Its old school country cooking, the restaurant looks right out of an early 70's movie and the best part is the waitresses there know how to do things. Bread with butter, coffee with cream, and they're really fast. I can sit down, order inside of a minute or two and have food in front of me before 5. Even when they're really busy! The only downside is that if you are under 40, you will be the youngest person in the room. They do a lot of breakfast business so they close at 2, but they serve breakfast all day! read more
