It is now dangerous to eat here
    Jake R.

You know "yellow dog" refers to a coward, right? You failed inspection horribly last week. I posted a screenshot and I invite everyone to look for it on Florida Today to see the deplorable kitchen practices here the manager denies so many violations last week. We were victims to their awful cooking and mishandling food. I certainly do give good ratings for good restaurants as much as 1 star ratings for dives like yours. Plus your prices are absolutely insane if I have to leave hungry especially. My steak was overcooked and took too long to get it. 6 oz? You should call that a child's menu item with a side of mac and cheese. Just 6 miles south, The Old Fish House in Grant surpasses the food here, at a fraction of the price with the same damn river view as this uppity location. Vics is another gem in Sebastian, I've been here for 45 years, I know the area better than you. This Yellow Dog "Sample size" Cafe charges a fortune to put your life at risk with ignorant kitchen staff, how can you justify staying open? The country should shut you down! The decor manipulated their decision most likely. I'll look into it, I promise. People only go to this riverfront dive because they're pretentious, not because they expect good food and a drink. I really should have read the reviews and taken the poor 1 star as a big red flag to avoid this place. My date ordered an unrecognizable goo, and she wouldn't touch it. I wonder if we suffered these poor kitchen practices noted in your failed inspection? Thawing commercially processed Reduced Oxygen Packaging (ROP) or vacuum-sealed fish in its packaging is highly dangerous. The lack of oxygen combined with improper temperatures creates a perfect environment for Clostridium botulinum to grow and produce deadly toxins. You're charging customers to end up in the ER as a dining experience here. Look for the screenshots. Edit: added more inspection results from 2024 and 2025, you get busted every single time. This isn't a mistake, its a practice.

Intimate dinner setting looking over the ocean. Excellent service, menu, and food. The restaurant is a great choice for a family outing or romantic date night. The conch fritter was excellent. While it could have had more conch in it, it had a delicious pepper flavor and the dough itself was light. I had the scalloped potato salmon, which was really good: perfectly moist in the center with crunchy potato on top of a delicious saffron lobster stock risotto. My wife loved her tuna poke bowl. This is an elegant restaurant although it being Florida you do not have to dress up. White table clothes and very attentive service. View is spectacular. Reserve for table 11 if you want a really stunning spot.

Finally found a lovely and elegant place for special occasions. We much prefer this intimate dining experience to The Brevardian, let's say. Very romantic and pretty window views, and even though on our visit they were quite busy, we were still able to have a peaceful and relaxing meal. The conch fritters are a MUST and we also loved the bread pudding. Our mojitos were a bit light on the alcohol and not as sweet as what I prefer. Maybe some day The Yellow Dog Cafe will be a place I could afford to eat more than once or twice a year, but I'm happy to have found it for now and feel it's worth it to treat yourself every now and then.

New to the area and heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it out. We really enjoyed the appetizers, especially the conch fritters. The duck was good but did not like the schnitzel. The salmon was just ok. We got there as soon as the menu was changing over to dinner. The lunch menu looks really good so I think we will try it again during lunchtime in the near future. Our waitress was really great and the atmosphere was also really nice with a really nice view.

At first glance, this place looks like another little dive on the side of the road, however this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous inside!! the service was excellent. The food was extremely delicious and I would highly recommend you stop in here on your way through Grant,Florida

My husband and I ventured up to the Malabar area for one reason... lunch at Yellow Dog. I see some mixed reviews, but our lunch experience on the Friday before Easter weekend was perfect First off, I must start with the valets. This restaurant only has valet parking, which I was nervous about... you just never know if you're going to get a good valet experience. These gentlemen were stellar! Best valet of all time- he greeted us, opened our doors, opened the door to the restaurant for us, and made conversation. So nice! We sat downstairs on their indoor patio - floor to ceiling windows made the view even more fabulous - it was a beautiful day and this place is right in the water! We were greeted by our lovely server, Becca. She is fabulous- sweet, professional, and efficient. She never rushed us, and made our dining experience even better! During lunch, they have a regular menu and a dinner for lunch menu. The dinner for lunch menu is a three course lunch for $39. My husband ordered the fried shrimp entrée, and he loved the huge jumbo shrimp that were lightly and perfectly fried. He said it was the best cocktail sauce he's ever had! I ordered the dinner for lunch, and as my appetizer I chose their house made pierogies. I shared these with my husband, and we both enjoyed them. For my main entrée, I got there baked cod. It was a delicious dish, and the fish was very fresh. For dessert, I chose the coconut cream pie, and I was blown away at generous of a portion it was! The pie was very tasty! Another great touch is that the owner walks around to every table to make conversation and ask how everything is. After we paid our bill and left, we had another interaction with the valet. They opened the door for us to exit the restaurant, made conversation about what we had eaten and what our favorite dishes from lunch were... we learned that they were locals from Melbourne, Florida and we shared that we were lifelong Floridians! Such sweet guys... cannot emphasize that enough!

We were guests at a reception here. Truly wonderful experience. Food, service, setting. The weather was perfect which made the openness facing the water just spectacular. Lots of stairs but otherwise you can't NOT picture an event here. Well done YDC.

I met some nieces here for lunch and it was a really great choice! The menu offers some unique takes on standard fare and does not disappoint! I got the Bird Dog, which is not just a turkey sandwich with melted Brie but has sliced green apple, tomato, chopped walnuts and cranberry jam .... I enjoyed it! The other diners at my table all enjoyed their meals as well ... 2 folks got two different burgers with homemade potate chips and 1 got the filet mignon (which was done to perfection) . A warm brownie in the shape of a dog bone and accompanied by whipped cream and vanilla ice cream topped off the meal for the 2 younger members of our group. Lots of yummy sounds were made! Our server was a young man named Tyler and he was super - attentive, professional and prompt ! We dined in a lovely little room overlooking the waterway and at the end of our meal we even saw a dolphin out by the dock, that is always a treat! Highly recommend this little Jewel!

What a lovely restaurant. Quaint. Cozy. Waitor was amazing. Beautiful view. We started with the Crab Bisque. Delicious. Zach - our server brought out fresh warm focaccia and bread with butter. We then shared the Fish and Puffs. A must! Crispy large portions of cod and the Puffs - yum! They were little croquettes of mashed potatoes. Heavenly. A suggestion- serve those with a smear of sour cream & chives. Would be even better. We'll be back hopefully to try their Dinner Special. Looked fabulous. I'm bummed I forgot to take pictures of the Fish and Puffs. Thank you Zach for your excellent service.

    Escargot appetizer.

The service made the evening! We had a party of 6 and relied heavily on our waitress' explanations and suggestions. She was always there when we needed her, but never intrusive. The food was good as well. Hard to believe that we had a hard time choosing which salad to have since all were inventive and featured their home grown lettuce and vegetables. I've always liked the "feel" of the restaurant inside. It's cozy.

Experience: I came on a Wednesday evening at 6:30 with a group of 12. This is my first time coming to this restaurant. Facility: the restaurant was nice... there was a small parking lot, but they have valet, so no issues. There was seating upstairs and downstairs. Our group was downstairs. They were table and chairs with no arms. The bathroom was clean and comfortable, but the towel holder is loose and fell down when you try to get a towel. Also, the restaurant sits right on the river and has a beautiful view. Service: our waiter was great... he was able to keep up with our big high maintenance table of 10 middle aged women. Food: we came for the 3 courses for $39 deal. The selection were many and good enough that it made it very hard to narrow down and choose. I ended up getting the mushroom pate, beef tips and coconut cream pie. I did not care for the pate very much. It had a slight sweetness to it that turned me off. The beef tips were so good. It was served with yummy mashed potatoes and crispy green beans. The tips were served in a savory rich mushroom gravy. I loved everything about this plate. And lastly the coconut cream pie was amazing!!! It was lighter than another other coconut cream pie I've had, which made me love it more since I'm not a fan of very sweet food. Overall: this was a great place with delicious food. And having the special deal of $39 for 3 course let us poor folks eat like the rich. Thank you!! I will be back.

Beautiful location right on the water with really good German food. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and remembered all of the specials, which was very impressive. The espresso martini and the lobster soup were both excellent. We also ordered the onion-crusted chicken, which was my favorite, and the jägerschnitzel, which was a huge portion. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely come back.

This place may not look like much from the outside, but once you step inside, the old-Florida atmosphere around the piano area completely changes the experience. It has a romantic, classic vibe that makes it perfect for an evening out with someone special. The service was absolutely excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food came out surprisingly quickly. The drink selection is great, and the cocktails are well made, taste fantastic, and definitely do their job! The live piano music really sets the mood for an evening of fine dining, drinks, and conversation. The food was very good, with both steak and seafood options that hit the belly just right. We arrive on time for our reservation. We are greeted, if that's what you want to call it, by a tall older man. I swear he looked at us like, can you really afford to eat here? So the initial interaction was rather poor. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so maybe he just had a bad day. Yeah, apparently not. The place is very pretty and certainly airs of a higher end establishment. After Mr. Snooty took us to our table, we were greeted by, ready for this, and even more snooty lady. Think Mrs. Howell. It's kind of like going on a date with a psychiatrist, knowing that they are judging every word that's coming out of your mouth. Lol. So after getting a lay of the land from her, we ordered some drinks, which were fantastic. Then the first course came and it was fabulous. We had the escargot and the oysters Rockefeller. Yum. The Escargot was buttery and soft. The oysters were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. We tried a lobster bisque and it was so so good. The touch of sherry was perfect. As for the Caesar's salad, this was the star of the evening. It was one of the best I've had and is what a Caesar salad should taste like. I am seriously considering going back there just for that salad. For dinner my wife had a lobster tail. She reports it was excellent. The snooty lady wanted me to try some special they had, but I went for the lamb chops. Again, perfect, medium rare. Winner. Snooty lady went uber obnoxious snooty after I didn't pick her choice. I was scared for the rest of the night. Overall price to food value, negative 100 billion. Food was fantastic. $250 for the portion sizes not worth it. Then again, even if they were bigger, not worth the price. Like I said, go for the salad and pass on the rest. Make you car payment and go to a more reasonably priced place that won't treat you like you need to have a credit report or occupation that they might approve of. Oh and they had some nice live music. That was good. Too bad, the staff put a damper on the birthday dinner.

The fatty portion of my Prime Rib was excessive. I get that ribeye-style cuts derive flavor from fat, but this was to the point where it overwhelmed the dish and left me wishing I had ordered the lower-cost ribeye instead. On top of that, it came out medium instead of medium-rare, which didn't help. That said, others at the table ordered the NY Strip and Ribeye, and both looked excellent--cooked properly and more in line with what I'd expect from a steakhouse at this level. Highlights of the meal: Brazilian sliders were fantastic--definitely a must-order appetizer Oxtail stroganoff was rich and well executed Mac & cheese was a solid side Cocktails were creative and well made Overall, I've had better steaks at lower price points, but also worse ones at higher-end spots. Based on what I saw from other dishes, I'd absolutely give Ember & Oak another shot--just not with the Prime Rib next time.

Our server (forgot his name) was awesome as well. The whole experience made my birthday that much better!
