We just went to Dot's with my husband'a family. My husband and I recently moved to town from the Rupert area. Dot's always looks busy. The atmosphere is sweet old home diner. I always love a wood interior and a historical and well preserved location with a good story. However coming from a New Orleans background of service and restaurant going I was not overly impressed. The #2 I had was just okay, my husband's toast was slightly burned, he never got his bacon, and they took the hot sauce away before I had finished my potatoes without asking. The server was curt and I didn't get the sense of being a valued customer at all. That being said, we'll give them another try just to see if it was a one off. I don't think I'd typically utter the phrase "I'd drive 100 miles for a bowl of chili," but if I were to, I'd definitely drive to Dot's. While everything about our lunch here was delicious and enjoyable, the chili was, for me, the best part. I can see why it's won awards. Our lunches also included a cup of homemade (and thick!) cream of tomato soup, a turkey sandwich, and a special of the day, a Cowboy Burger. That burger was cooked to order with a generous amount of toppings, and messy good. I liked their attitude when asked how one could have the turkey sandwich made, of "It's your sandwich, have it however you want!." The parking lot behind the restaurant is VERY small, only holding 4, maybe 5 cars, and it would be a little tight backing out and turning around when busy. If you're not up to dealing with that, you should probably either park at a municipal lot I believe is on South Main St., or somewhere else in town and walk there like I expect a lot of the local regulars do. (The parking lot had cars from New York, Connecticut, and Ontario, none from Vermont - they obviously already know.) read more

If you're looking for a delicious brunch spot, Dot's will not disappoint! I traveled to Dover, VT with friends for a fall weekend trip and on our last day we were looking for a brunch spot before heading back home. We were a group of 5 and waited about 20 minutes to sit down on a Sunday morning - we did call ahead to save our spot. I ordered 1) a large chili because they're known for their chili! Definitely worth it, it was chunky and flavorful without being too heavy 2) Side order of jalapeno cornbread - SO good with the chili!! as much as I was happy ordering the chili, it wouldn't have been as complete of a meal without the cornbread. Definitely has a denser, almost pound cake-like texture so if you prefer flakier cornbreads, keep that in mind Friends ordered standard brunch items like berry pancakes or omelettes and enjoyed their picks! Not much more to add than what's already been written for Dot's...we came here for breakfast and I just got to try the chili omelette because what can be better than a cup of award winning chili? Put eggs and melted cheese with it!!! It was delicious with a kick! I like to add hot sauce to pretty much everything, and I made the mistake in adding it to the already spicy chili omelette without tasting first... Needless to say, my mouth was burning a little after I devoured the own thing. You can choose type of bread with your omelette, I highly recommend their homemade raisin bread, so yummy!!! Hubby had the biscuits with gravy with sunnyside up eggs, creamy and perfect amount of saltiness. We also ordered a chocolate chip pancake and the famous berry-berry pancake. Both are done perfect. Fluffy and yummy... It doesn't get better than this. Service was on point, I'm a fan. We liked Dot's so much we ordered takeout dinner one night to try the meatloaf and shrimp & scallop scampi with pasta. They were also very good. For the last 30 years I've enjoyed going to Dot's of Wilmington. Their meals are creative and they use fresh local produce. The staff is welcoming and each time you return they use your name makes you feel like you're home. I think their Meatloaf is out of this world. The Ambiance is warm and cozy lots of windows bring in the sunlight views of downtown and the water way. I like that dot's still has the original stools to sit up to the counter. I like the hardwood floors and wooden furniture. Keep up the strong work ethics. read more

Adorable, amazing breakfast/lunch place that is a must! From the minute we walked in, we were greeted by friendly faces and seated with water and coffee! The menu has a vide variety of things and there is a long of specials. We got the Cajun skillet, veggie omelet, sausage and gravy, and cracked wheat French toast. The coffee was pretty good and they were good on refilling it. The rye bread was perfectly buttered and toasted! The home fries were nice and crispy, which isn't common to find. I was hungry in Wilmington, Vermont, so I used Yelp to find a place to eat. Dot's Restaurant popped up as one of the best places in the area, so I ate dinner there. I was greeted by a friendly staff and shown a table. Dot's restaurant is not bland diner food and it actually tastes good. I had to try the chili because that is what they are known for and I have to say it was one of the best chilis, I have ever had. Then I ate the BLT and that was really good as well. It wasn't super busy at dinner time, but I came back for breakfast and it was busy. There is a parking lot in the back, but it only fits a few cars. Be patient if you go here on a busy weekend - everyone wants to eat at Dot's ! This is a great local place, I usually get an egg dish but their "berry berry" pancakes are delicious also. Solid homemade cracked wheat bread great at toast. Have as much or as little of anything breakfast, brunch or lunch that you want. Omelets are not as fluffy as I'd like but still very filling. Eggs Benedict are my go to item, I have trouble ordering anything else. Did I say BE PATIENT- don't act like a nasty tourist and you'll be treated with respect !! Service was very good. We were greeted and seated immediately. Hubby had the chili to start and I had the salad. The chili was very good. Salad was ok. My husband would have enjoyed it more since I'm not a fan of green peppers and mushrooms. They also brought out homemade bread which was a treat. The entrees followed quickly. I came in with somewhat diminished expectations because everyone had hyped up this place. It's pretty much a New England landmark at this point, so a huge part of the experience is it's history as a staple in this popular ski area. The menu is simple, as any good diner should be, so I thought I'd come out satisfied if they didn't mess up the simple stuff. "It will be average, and I'll be okay" is what I told myself. Well, I admit now that I came out of the experience pleasantly surprised. Dot's is some of the best diner food around. The cinnamon roll was the star. It's not as fluffy as traditional rolls, but the flavors are on point and the toasted method they use gives it a prefect texture. With potatoes, I'm usually not impressed when they aren't cooked with onions and bell peppers, but Dot's home fries were tasty despite the lack of skillet fare. And the pancakes were surprisingly good. I don't generally like fruit cooked into pancakes, but their pancakes were on point (not too doughy or too greasy). The place was smaller than I'd anticipated, but managed to run smoothly turning tables relatively quickly. And the service was 100% Vermont. Not necessarily warm, but definitely hospitable. We had a little fun with the server (telling her that she forgot to bring out our cinnamon roll as we pushed the empty plate which held the devoured pasty toward her), and she was really apologetic until we pointed out the joke. Fantastic brunch! We were a group of 13 and called in advance for brunch reservations. We had to wait a little but with the comfy porch and the beautiful flowers all around, we didn't mind...and it was worth the wait! We were all ravenous and ordered once we were seated since they stop serving breakfast after 3PM. I got the veggie egg white omelet with Monterey Jack cheese and sprouted wheat bread! My friends got the other meals pictured. I cannot rave enough about this sprouted wheat toast - I wanted to ask for a loaf to go! Dot's is everything you want in a diner. Cozy and friendly with really good food. Our most recent meal was exactly what we go there for. I had a great burger and fries and my husband had their terrific chili. We also shared a cup of mushroom soup everything came out hot and fresh. The burger even had a fully ripe tomato slice on it. I went there wanting breakfast but by the time I sat down it was lunch. My party was also skipped over by mistake and sat people that came in after us, but whatever it was crowded. After a lack luster dinner Friday night elsewhere, we were happy to fall on this breakfast gem while on vacation. I had the fried chicken sandwich.
