We stopped in for breakfast as we were passing through the area. The servers and staff were very friendly and the place itself quaint right off main street. Sausage gravy was a little plain in my opinion, but the potatoes were very tasty. My wife had the short stack of blueberry pancakes and they were very good and fluffy. Being from NJ, I can't remember the last time I got a breakfast for $20 for one person and the whole bill was $20, so the value can't be beat. It was well worth the stop. read more

The mushroom omelette I had was pretty good and the toast was homemade or from a local bakery. My husbands eggs, sausage, and toast were just ok. The server was very nice and once we got seated the service was quick. But when we were eating the hostess very loudly yelled (and kept at it when they were leaving the table already) at an elderly couple that sat themselves. It was an honest mistake, there were open tables and no line (people wait outside bc it gets congested) so I see how that could be confusing. It could've been handled in a kinder way and the people were so embarrassed. It left a very bad taste in our mouths and they lost our future business. read more

The service was quite acceptable on. I was seated rather quickly. It's sort of a self seating and there were open tables when I entered. Soon after I was seated, the waitress was right over to take my drink order I had ordered a large orange juice and a cup of coffee. Sugar and creamer are on the table for your use when you do have the coffee. By the time she came back with my drinks, I was ready to order. I had ordered the sausage gravy over a biscuit, two fried eggs and some home fries. The sausage gravy was good. I prefer bigger chunks of sausage, but what pieces were in there and the gravy itself tasted fantastic . The biscuit was good. It was very very soft and more soft even after the gravy was put on. I prefer more crisp on the outside of my biscuit and nice and soft and squishy on the inside but this one was good for my meal. The eggs were done wonderfully. They were done over easy. I had a wonderful run yolk they come unseasoned, but I just put a little pepper on them and they were great. Like I said the yoke was absolutely perfect. The home fries. Nice big chunks of red potatoes with the skins seasoned perfectly. They had a nice crisp bottom I could've actually have sat and ate a whole bowl of these. They have been offerings on their menu they have waffles, pancakes, French toast, many different omelettes, breakfast sandwiches along with the sausage gravy options. They also do have a small minor lunch menu as well that maybe sometime I'd like to go back and try. All in all I suggest stopping over to Sunnyside prices were reasonable as well to get a nice quick meal before you're off to wander around Bennington. read more

Can't vouch for the food because after waiting a half hour and being rudely ordered outside and told it would be a half hour, we waited and watched others go in and weren't ordered to go outside.....maybe they were regulars. After waiting over a half hour I went back in and the lady inside didn't seem to know how long it would be but said we had one person ahead of us. I guess they take reservations (hmmmmm) because some went in right away and got seated before I went in to check so very frustrated indeed. If I go back will update my review for the food. read more

Mediocre food with a heaping side of politics shoved down your throat by the staff makes for a nasty morning.

The busser was an incredibly polite and helpful young man. I believe his name was Aiden or possibly Adam. He was cleaning each table with impressive haste, sometimes even working from his hands and knees to ensure each customer had a clean experience. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Bennington until I witnessed the horrific behavior from the staff to a woman who was disabled. When the staff was asked to treat the woman with respect they told us that we didn't see what we know we saw. when they were told that we wouldn't be returning the bosted that they didn't need our money because they have plenty of people that would gladly take our place. I may not be missed but I will never be back again. I don't want any stars above because your restaurant doesn't deserve it. read more

I WON'T BE BACK. September 7, 2024 Disabled senior citizen verbally abused at Sunnyside Diner. A little after 11 AM, we were seated close to the front door, directly across from the cashier counter at the Sunnyside Diner. A party of three women came in, one of which has a clear, physical disability and was hesitantly using a walker. She sat in the walker, out of the way, by a man sitting at the front table waiting for a "to - go" order. The cashier told the three customers to wait outside. The two ambulatory women pointed out that their friend is disabled and would need to wait inside. This led to an argument. Two customers went to wait outside and the third, disabled customer, remained in place. Time passed ; the argument escalated with the culmination of the cashier screaming abusively at the disabled elderly women to "get out". She left with her friends who were outside. I and my companions paid our bills. We tried to speak quietly and as privately as possible to the cashier regarding this matter. She was quickly joining by waitress #2. I mentioned the American Disability Act and accommodation of disabled people . She aggressively informed me that that was not the rule there. I told her we would not be back and that they had lost six customers today. Waitress #2 yelled that they did not care because they have enough customers. The cashier denied her behavior which we had experienced at close hand. Both the cashier and waitress #2 were loud, aggressive and trying to intimidate us. It was an unexpected and very uncomfortable experience to see someone treated so badly. read more

A side of canned hash, two very undercooked eggs, and a cup of lousy weak coffee = $16 + tax (but the menu said a side of hash is $4.95). My friends were all overcharged too. Had to wait about 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Waited 30 minutes or so and had to seek out coffee refills. They weren't even that busy. No wonder. Who can afford it? This has been happening for a few years now, not matter what we order. I spoke up about it and said I was done going there. When it comes to breakfast in Bennington this has become our go to spot. Which is saying a LOT since we were loyal to our former #1 for what seems like multiple lifetimes. And it took us a while to try Sunny Side. I love that it's downtown so totally walkable but also has sizeable parking. Great for heading out of town or stopping when coming back early in the morning. I have never had to wait but they are always busy -- a good sign. Tables are quickly cleaned off and people are told to sit where they want. Wait staff is always super friendly -- a hello is offered as soon as you walk in. The space is clean, colorful, and sunny. Breakfast specials are offered daily and are on the table with the menus. You honestly can't go wrong with anything. Everything is delicious. And whatever you do: get the home fries. Coffee is excellent, fresh and hot. Refills are regular and it's hard to say no. My partner-in-crime swears by the scrambles but I'm a breakfast traditionalist: eggs, bacon, bread, home fries. When it's on specials I always get the breakfast sandwich made on their buttermilk biscuit -- it's fantastic. And I'm one of those people who MUST have their breakfast sandwich bread toasted. But this is untoasted and awesome. Just be sure to ask for cheddar cheese so you don't get American (blech). Service is super quick and always correct and food is piping hot and fresh -- everything is always perfectly timed. Like they know not to start every ish in the order at the exact same second. That's always a plus! If you're looking for something to grab and go or like pastry for breakfast, the butter rum muffins are incredible. I stopped for Saturday breakfast at Sunny Side Diner (formerly Full Bellies Restaurant) located across the street from TJ's Fish Fry. This casual full service restaurant serves breakfast (all day) and lunch. The breakfast offerings include pancakes, French toast, egg dishes, 3 egg omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, sausage gravy & biscuits, cereal, muffins, & sides. The lunch offerings include burgers, sandwiches, wraps, hot dogs, soups, chili, fried seafood, fries, onion rings. Most entrees are under $10. I arrived here around 12:30 PM and I sat myself in an open booth. I started out with a big mug of coffee ($1.75), which was on the weaker side. For breakfast, I ordered the Western Omelette served homefries & toast. The food was served quickly in like 5 minutes after ordering. The portion size was pretty good. The omelette was a thin folded filled with ham, green peppers, & onions. The homefries (red skin potatoes) were grilled and seasoned with a softer texture. The thick slices of buttered oat toast were slightly charred along the edges and soft. The omelette and homefries were both solid good. The service was okay and pleasant. My waiter was very prompt in taking my order, serving my food, and bringing over the check when I was finished. However, before my food was served, the waiter was clearing all the ketchup bottles from each table to be cleaned and refilled. After my food was served, my waiter quickly took off before I could ask for ketchup. I did take a bottle of ketchup from another table, which looked very old and used many times, but it was filled to the top like a new bottle. I also did not need or want a refill on the coffee (I stopped at Starbucks in NY an hour later for stronger brew). read more

I stopped in for breakfast. I had to use the restroom, so I put my things down and ordered coffee so they would I know I was planning to stay. When I came back, I had to squeeze into stool in a corner that would not have been easy to get out of if there had been a fire. I sat there patiently while the waitstaff served their other customers. It was packed but everything seemed to be moving smoothly. They even the order of a customer who arrived after I did and was sitting there next to me but the waitress didn't bother to ask me if I was ready to order yet. I waited a little while longer. Then, finally, a waitress had slowed down to fold some napkins at the counter. So I used this time to politely ask, "Can I order please?" I knew what I wanted. But instead of taking my order the waitress said, "Hang on." And ran off somewhere else. There were a number of occasions when a waitress could have easily just asked, "Are you ready to order." But they were obviously so busy with other customers that I actually felt like I was imposing on them by asking if I could order breakfast. It's amazing to me when a lot of small businesses are begging and pleading with you to #SupportSmallBusiness but they don't seem disappointing one local customer. read more

My husband and I had breakfast in the early afternoon, so we wanted our meal to be hearty and satisfying. I ordered the spinach and cheese omelette. When my dish arrived, I thought it was not going to be tasty because the eggs were so pale (I'm used to organic eggs that are quite hearty and almost orange in color) BUT to my surprise, it was the BEST spinach omelette I've ever had. The spinach was so fresh that it was deep green as if it were just picked from the garden. I don't like home fries but my husband encouraged me to try them (I was leaving them on the plate) because he said they were good. I did, they weren't good...they were incredibly good, very tasty. And, the fresh thick slice sour dough buttered toast just added an oomph to the meal. The waitress was great, the staff and ambiance made us feel welcomed.
