I came here last night to pick up some treats for the family. These are SO much better than I expected! I'm not a fan of Sprinkles or Susie Cakes because of the dense frosting, cupcake to frosting ratio, and sweetness level. These are so fluffy and the flavors are amazing! There's a huge range of sweet to less sweet options which I really appreciated. The general manager was very kind and talked to you like a friend. They're kind of tucked away next to the UPS store so I'm not sure how much traffic they get, but they absolutely should! Hands down, best cupcakes in the area! Personally, I prefer Dots over Sprinkles. I remember loving this place when I lived in SGV and would always visit its Pasadena location, so I was super happy to see that a location had opened in Irvine! My bf and just had dinner and I saw the familiar sign from afar and I was so happy to see it was dots!! The store is a pretty decent size, clean and I love that I can see the cupcakes when I order. They have the classics but they also have some specialty cupcakes, which are different every other day, so it makes it more enticing to come back hehe What we ordered- Marble: vanilla cake base with chocolate/vanilla swirl on top with chocolate sprinkles. This was one of my favs that I had gotten. It hit the sweetness craving I had and was moist, even after it was refrigerated! Blueberry cheesecake: my bf got this to try and was surprised with how good it was! The blueberry taste was there and paired very well with the cake itself. Chocolate Vanilla: Chocolate cake base with vanilla frosting. Clearly I was in a chocolate mood when I was ordering hahaha but this also satisfied the craving! I think the chocolate cake wasn't too much and not as sweet as what I'm used to. Don't think this ain't sweet though, because the frosting definitely makes up for the lack of sweetness from the cake! Strawberry Shortcake: this I remember being one of my favorites from the Pasadena location, so I had to get it for the nostalgia. Tasted just as I remember it, sweet. Tiramisu: I've been in my tiramisu phase, so I was so excited to see that we had come in on the day they had this specialty cupcake!! It was everything I thought it'd be. Definitely had more of a coffee taste to it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Carrot cake: this was the other one my bf tried and he really liked it! He normally loves carrot cake lol so it may be bias, but he liked how moist it was and thought it tasted great with the cream cheese. Service was ok imo. It was empty when we came in so they helped us really quick! Pricing was also fair, coming out to about $3 for each mini one. Overall, I'd 100% return. Like I mentioned earlier, it's personally my favorite over sprinkles since the cupcakes were moist even after a day in the fridge and I love that the cupcakes are mini, so I don't feel as bad when I eat two at a time lol. read more

Dots Cupcakes is the place to go!!! i came about 2 hours before closing time, and the options were limited. i will say, however, that my friend requested "anything chocolate", and i was still able to get 5 unique chocolate flavors for my half dozen ($29.10)! i tried the chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting, and it was delicious. the frosting wasn't overly sweet and the cupcake was moist. i would have preferred cream cheese frosting instead of vanilla, but i still enjoyed it :) the packaging is absolutely adorable. it's easy to carry and prevents the cupcakes from becoming smooshed or smeared. i drove 1.5 hours with the cupcakes in my passenger seat, and they looked perfect when i opened the box! i will definitely be back to try the other flavors :) read more

Careful what day you order your cupcakes. I order a customer selection mini cupcakes and got back a Saint Patrick's Day decorated assortment. NOT what I ordered. Worse the manager or owner not sure kept arguing with me that that was what they were because it was Saint Patrick day, but on their website there is an option to BUY the Saint Patrick's cupcakes or a normal customer choice . Clearly if I wanted Saint Patrick's decorated cupcakes I would have ordered those not the customer selection. She offered a 6 mini cupcakes when I bought TWO dozen. Not very fair on my opinion and again she kept defending the fact that that's how they were going to be sold if picked up on Saint Patrick's day. So if you pick up on a holiday be prepared to just have your cupcakes all be decorated of that holiday regardless of your birthday celebration colors or preferences. 1 star for taste 1 star for clean location read more

We don't have enough cupcake dealers in the area. Maybe I just need to get better at baking them myself?! Well I was excited to see this new option in town and really wanted to like it, but the cupcakes were inconsistent. I ordered a half dozen and the chocolate ones were moist, sweetened, and scrumptious. The vanilla cupcakes were bland, dense, and throw aways. The carrot cake cupcakes were something to die for. I would imagine cupcakes are kinda hard to be consistent with? Hopefully this visit was a fluke. I'll give it another shot at some point but was pretty disappointed this time around. As another reviewer mentioned, they're sorta reminiscent of Betty Crocker cupcakes. If you're looking for good quality cupcakes, but don't want to spend an expensive amount such as "Sprinkles" (no shade), then this is a great option! I love how they offer mini size cupcakes too because even one of those to pop in your mouth is filling! We bought these for my office to try to support small local businesses and everybody had great feedback. My favorite is the cookies n cream flavor.
