Customer service is horrendous. I was busy at work but I asked my husband to pick up cupcakes for our daughter's birthday. He waited patiently, only to be ignored. An older woman asked the woman behind him waiting in line if she needed to be helped. When my husband told them he hadn't been helped the older woman then asked the woman waiting in line if "it would be okay if she could help my husband" .... Like what?? You need permission to ask if you can help a man who's been waiting?? You made a mistake. Apologize and acknowledge that. When I called and tried explaining the situation, the owner (I'm assuming because she never introduced herself) didn't apologize and then started to argue with me. Promising me that "she did in fact help my husband". Like really?? I'm going to call you out of the blue on a Saturday to complain just because I have nothing else better to do? Not okay. My husband also mentioned when he walked in he noticed the owner sitting at a table with her friends just hanging out. That the only reason she got up was to answer the phone. Not because he was in line, waiting. Owner doesn't take any customer service responsibility. There have been so many complaints but they're never acknowledged. Believe the owner on the treatment of her employees and her customers. I've reached out in other ways but there's never any apology and that's fine. Take your business elsewhere, like SusieCakes. Just happened into this cafe' for breakfast and so glad we did. Everything was really good, but especially the strawberry jam (homemade, I'd guess) and fresh orange juice. A nice neighborhood cafe that is great for brunch. This restaurant is decorated warmly, and is a wonderful place to hang around while getting some good food. The only thing is their lunch menu started at 12pm. So when we got there at 11:30am, we still have to order the breakfast menu. The servers are kind and greeted everyone with a great smile. The latest cupcake I tried from here was the cute little puppy one, which appeared to be a frosted muffin at first but WOW it was a cupcake with such a unique taste and was so good! It had chocolate chips in it and was so moist and crumbly (in a good way), that I assumed it was like one of those deliciously-horrible-for-you muffins you can buy in packs of 2 at the grocery store. Despite the identical texture to one of those muffins, it was in fact a cupcake! I wish I could identify the secret ingredient. They r good in quality and in taste and feeds a family of 4 and I have been ordering the family meals once a week and this week I ordered TWICE. They take pre orders and pre payment for their family meals. I pre ordered for this Wednesday and picked it up and everything was great. I also pre ordered 4 DAYS BEFOREHAND to pick up this Friday and they confirmed my ordered. My family and I really liked their food and this Friday they had a family meals with steak, pasta and cookies that we really really wanted to try. I told my kids about dots and their meals since this Monday. They liked this Wednesday's so we were so excited about the Friday family meals and we were so looking forward to it and everyday this week I was prepping my family and saying oh they have steak and pasta and cookies! So I drove the family to the Santa Anita mall and had a great time and told them on the way home we will pick up dinner at dots and they were so excited. We arrived at dots and I went inside to pick up my order and they TOLD ME THEY DIDNT HAVE ANY??? I'm like what do you mean, I pre ordered 4 days ago. I don't get it. The owner lady said someone came in to pick up the last one? Huh?? I preordered and confirmed the order for pick up and they gave the last one to some other person? How does this happen?? All she did was apologize and didn't even make me feel any better or remedy the situation. I told my family about this dinner 4 days ago and prepped them and they were so happy but I walked out of dots with nothing! Being sorry doesn't feed my family. What does pre ordering and pre paying do when they don't even honor it ?? She said they made the exact amount of preorders. Obviously not! Someone messed up bad and gave my food away or didn't make enough food. I don't even know what happened. I felt so bad. I had to walk to the car empty handed and my family kept asking me what happened and I had to tell them they didn't have our food and we had to go somewhere else for dinner. They were so disappointed to the point of almost crying and I felt so bad and felt helpless. This whole experience was horrible. I regret counting on dots to deliver. I was a loyal customer but not anymore. I was going to order for next week for Christmas Eve. They are doing a prime rib family meal for $175. Expensive but was gonna order at least 3 for a family party but not anymore. I don't want to show up empty handed and can't trust that I would even get my food I preordered. I rather go to an establishment that actually puts customers first and knows what they are doing. If they mess up, take the blame and at least make me or my family feel better but I walked out of there feeling ill to my stomach with nothing. Wow, I would never believe that Dots that I hold in such high regard would ever bring me to complete disgust. I walked in to grab a cupcake and half a dozen to bring home to surprise my family during an hour drive home. There were FLIES on the cupcakes!!! Inside and outside the display counter. I could not believe this! It was just one it were multiple just having their feast on those precious cupcakes. I almost got sick and had to leave but so much worse I am soooo sad! I can't patronize this place anymore I've never ever witnessed something like this from ANY establishment. First time visiting the cafe,been a fan of Dots cupcake for many years since Fair Oaks and Arroyo parkway branch days. We ordered few dozen of mini cupcakes. They have the regular flavors and Daily special flavors. Check the website for daily flavors. My favorite Chocolate Lovers , Red Velvet and Dulce de Leche. Not too sweet and it's always moist. Also tried their Lavender Latte- cold, it was very good but probably too strong of caffeine for me so I will stick with Ice Black tea/peach flavor. The place has indoor dining area and I saw one outside table outside, they have display of merchandise that are cute, so check hat out. The person helping us ,Elisa so helpful and sweet.. thank you. I really, really wanted to like this place. Especially after seeing all the high reviews, all the love from the community, and definitely after seeing how affordable their family meal plans were. I decided to take the risk and order the holiday family meal for Thanksgiving. This family meal was slated to be picked up on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. There's a time slot that you have to pick it up at and just know that the parking lot is pretty small for such a popular cafe and other businesses in the plaza, so be ready to get street parking. Other than that, pick up was pretty hassle free, you just let them know your name and you're good to go. This family meal came was $70 and intended to feed a family of 4. It came with: -A bourbon orange glazed ham -Maple glazed Brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes with cranberries and pecans. -Roasted beet salad. -Dinner rolls. -An 8 inch German chocolate cake. EVERYTHING tasted medicinal. Like this strange after taste that tastes like menthol medication or a cough drop. Even after following the proper storage instructions and cooking instructions, it still tasted this way. None of that sweet maple glaze or the orange flavor was detected. I am really unsure of how this happened and everyone in my family made a comment about it. When I didn't taste that strange menthol flavor, the ham was dry and overly salty. Out of all the savory course dishes, somehow the dinner rolls were the best part of it all... The German chocolate cake was alright and great if you have a sweet tooth, but it was WAY too sweet, especially for my family since I have older Asian parents (who crave the "not too sweet" sweet taste). The addition of coconut on top blew the sweetness out of proportion. It was alright with a glass of milk, but I could feel myself getting tired of eating it as I pushed myself to finish leftovers throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. It's the case of a game gone bad not called Duck Duck Goose but Dot Dot Don't! So I'm going to make this short and sweet kinda like my stay. Boom! Their cupcakes are definitely delicious with daily flavors and new ones popping up throughout the week. The honey cinnamon specialty latte was good and that's about it for the highlights of this adventure. So this is where it goes bad. I ordered the avocado toast that had all the fixings and a very special one inside. A long dark hair accompanied my toast and luckily i saw it while I was splitting the toast in half or else I would've coughed up a fur ball or something! Stopped by here briefly because I always passed by it and wanted to finally try it. Got a couple of cupcakes - the vanilla milk chocolate and the strawberry one. The strawberry was...underwhelming. There was literally only one strawberry. At least it was kinda fresh? The frosting was good, at least. This is what the review is only 4-star instead of a solid 5. The vanilla milk chocolate was excellent and I can see why that particular cupcake would be their biggest seller. The decor was divine, and the staff was lovely. Been coming here for years and it's been my go to spot for all occasions for my daughters. Let me tell you the service needs to improve with employees with a bad attitude. I had to double take a look at this rude girl who was helping me. I would have said something to her but my daughter was there but I'm sure she knew I wasn't happy with my face expression. Real nice, earthy feel right when you walk in, view of flower decor on the walls and succulents on the table. They changed the layout to provide a small private event setting for a party of 10 on the side, blocked by a wooden shelf with faux flowers all around. Place gets really busy so we had to come early in the morning to beat the crowd. Place looks like they're low on staff so its best to come here when it not crowded in order to get the best service. I usually come for their breakfast/brunch menu because I can't get enough of their waffles and pancakes. Prices are reasonable. Even though they're known for their cupcakes, I'm actually not a fan of their texture and flavors; only a fan of their designs. It's great to give as a gift not the best to take home as an indulgence. Overall, it's a great venue for breakfast or brunch with your family or meet up with your buddies. Cute boutique cupcake shop with really nicely decorated interiors. But beside the cute interior, I'm in LOVE with their breakfast burrito. The cupcakes are not the best in town (and rather on the pricier side) but it's nice to bring over a box to a gathering or as a gift. Their breakfast burrito is BOMB! It was so good that I forgot to take a picture lol! It comes with hash brown, eggs, cheese and your choice of bacon/sausage/avocado (I got bacon and added avocado). For $11, it's also REALLY girthy (yes, I said girthy lol!) so well worth the buck. Good for two meals! I'll definitely be back here for the burritos. Their cupcake boxes are really cute; I brought over a box of 9 mini cupcakes to a house gathering, and it was nice to cut up into little pieces and have a little cupcake tasting. My favorite was the dulce de Leche, and the vanilla chocolate - the cake part of the cupcake had that nice almond extract. I have been wanting to come here for some time. Sadly, I was really disappointed with my Dalgona w/ Oatmilk. All I could taste was milk, which sucked because I was really looking forward to the drinks here. I should have just stuck with my og order but it is what it is. Price is right though. The idea of the Bento Box was just so darn cute, I had to get it. I got the Thanksgiving Sandwich. In my mind, I was thinking it would be comparable to Earl of Sandwich's Holiday Turkey Sandwich, but it was nowhere near it. It was super dry and the bread was too thick; I actually just took the tops off. The Bento Box includes either salad or fries, pickles and a mini cupcake. I opted for the salad. Shocking, I know! I'm such a French fries kind-of-girl, but I was curious about the dressing that it came with. I had heard that it's a must try. I probably would have enjoyed the fries more. The redeeming thing here was the cupcake. I got the Strawberry Shortcake and it was a great cupcake. It was the perfect size and it wasn't overly sweet. We stayed at a local hotel and came across this gem to have our morning coffee. As soon as you walk in you are greeted to a delicious assortment of cupcakes...18 types to be exact. We obviously couldn't pass them up and bonus they have mini cupcakes so way less commitment :) We ordered the ultimate breakfast burrito because it had avocado, bacon and sausage added to the basic egg, cheese and tot hash brown burrito. The only thing I would change is the sauce it is served with. It's sort of a purée of some sort with very minimal spiciness. Definitely could have used some salsa. The burrito was huge! You definitely need an appetite to order this. We also had flavored lattes (caramel and hazelnut) and they were delicious. read more

I was in Pasadena for an appointment and was craving a cupcake. Lucky me. Here was Dots Cafe just before heading home and jumping onto the freeway! I love just about anything strawberry. I was glad to see they had strawberry shortcake on the menu as well as some others. The cake consistency across each of the flavors purchased were soft (not cornbread consistency) and moist. Strawberry shortcake, vanilla honey and chocolate mint were my favorites. True to taste and ( mint was minty lol) and not too sweet! Just perfect! Enjoyed a lavender latte with oat milk. Coffee was not bitter tasting at all and the latte was creamy Wall art of flowers is a pretty focal point. They may want to divide their employees only area. It takes away from the ambiance in my opinion. The wallpaper of flowers is nice though. I like this place...until my next visit! read more

Terrible Service. Cashier was full of herself and arrogant. Did not listen or cared about what items I was requesting. Tried to order a half dozen REGULAR Cupcakes along with other baked goods. The Cashier literally threw the cupcakes inside of the box. She had only given me thee of them and they were mini in size along with the wrong flavor. After asking politely to change the cupcakes as they were not what I asked she proceeded to take longer and not even acknowledge what was I had said. The then proceeded to ring me up ignoring the fact I had asked her for a half dozen cookies and scones before ringing me up. After asking her politely again to include the cookies and scones that I had asked for The cashier proceeded to roll her eyes and scoff at my request. After I my transaction was completed I had then walked over to who was the acting manager. And expressed how I have been coming to this location since before Covid and that this was the worst service I had received here and that it was not ok for someone to act so rude without provocation. Well the manage did not care either. Her response was dull and unpleasant at someone telling her that her employee was being rude. As this is happening the Cashier proceed to laugh at the situation and my complaint. I repeat The Cashier Laughs at the fact that SHE is being rude to customers. And since the managers response to me addressing this was a simple and utterly pathetic "OK". The actual food is terrible here and has been since they opened. The cupcakes are ok and the service was ok. But after my experience today I will not be coming back. Hospitality has gone out of the window and that is not ok. I do not care to bash on local businesses as we do need them but there is a line in Hospitality and they as a business fumbled and lost my support. read more

One of my favorite cupcake spots! The original is in Old Town Pasadena where they know our order! This location is super cute and larger with a cafe! This location offers more than just cupcakes, they have breakfast, sandwiches, salads, coffee/tea drinks, plus house made family meals and meal plans! Steak Chimichurri Sandwich - skirt steak, swiss, mayo, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato, chimichurri on a soft French roll - the sandwich was yummy! The bread was thick but soft with great texture. That chimichurri sauce was so good! I used the drippings from the sandwich as a dip for the fries! The steak was cooked well, tender, and thin enough to eat easily. Fries were okay, tasted like they were sitting out for a bit though. BLAT - turkey, bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, & mayo on housemade bread - this is your typical BLT but it is huge! Pretty good. Fleur de Sel cupcake - my favorite cupcake ever! This is my usual and since it's been a while since I've been here, I had to get my fave. Iced Lychee Black Tea - this is super yum! Make sure to mix it real good, otherwise, you get lots of sweet at the beginning and no sweet later on. It tastes like they use canned lychee bits, and the syrup from the can as the flavoring. It's still good & yummy! This is my go to drink! I've had pretty much all their flavors of cupcakes as we get them for team meetings or celebrations! My fave is definitely the Fleur de Sel, but all the chocolate cake based ones are great! The other flavors aren't as great for me, sometimes a little dry. But they all taste great! They also offer meal plans or family meals, they come out to about $10 per portion. Great for when you don't want to cook, big groups or picnics! They have the weekly menu up on their Instagram page. I don't know where to start with this review so I'll just go for it. I've been a fan of Dots since the beginning of their journey. The cupcakes have been a huge hit in my family. I used to love going to their location on Arroyo many years ago, where the original staff and bakers planted their roots for this establishment. I've been honored to meet a few of the back of house staff; which are the main reason why this business has bloomed. I see a lot of the original members have left their legacy and original recipes behind and now the cupcakes just don't taste the same. These cupcakes used to be delicious, now just dry and overly sweet. Once the cafe opened, I was able to try their new menu, meet new faces, including the owner, Hailey Kwon. After meeting her several times, I really wonder how her doors are still open. This lady plays a whole facade on her socials and if you pay close attention, she never takes a moment to honor the people who work hard behind her doors who make her business possible. The times I've interacted with her, she has been rude, grumpy, almost bothered that she has guests at her overpriced cafe. I'm done coming here because I simply can't understand why she's so cold, and I've seen her intimidate her staff right in front of customers. She hires young people to pay them less and intimidate them. and I was hearing the stories from past staff on indeed where it's confirmed she's taken advantage of a lot of good people, including the main baker. No wonder the cupcakes don't hit like they used to. I hope the owner finds happiness and turns her place around. And now that the building is white, it definitely feels plain, like any other cafe. Don't even know that Dots cafe sells family meals until my cousin tells me about it. My wife and I decided to try their Father's Day dinner special. For $130, I think it is worth it, the amount of food can last for 2-3 days. The ribeye has great flavor, tender and easy to chew, especially for my kids. The salad is refreshing. Potato Gratin and the Spinach Cream are a little on the salty side. The peanut chocolate dessert is excellent, moist and flavorful, not too sweet.
