Shrimp Burrito
Ginger W.

I've eaten here ( Davis location) for 25+ years. Thus I've already written a bunch about the regular menu. So today's review is about the new seasonal spinach and asparagus quesadilla. It's delicious! I added the grilled shrimp for $3 extra and was very happy with the amount of shrimp they added. The dipping sauce was nice and tangy and a little spicy. Overall it had great flavor and I really liked it. Was surprised the amount of asparagus wasn't significant, but maybe that's cause I added shrimp? Anyway very yummy and a nice seasonal addition. Arugulas side salad was also well dressed and a nice accompaniment.

Beautiful out door patio along the bike trail!

Have you had your DOS today? I love the Dos Coyotes Border Cafès! Because there is no Dos Coyotes near me in El Dorado Hills, I try to hit one up whenever I am out and about in an area where one is located. There are nine locations. Two in Davis, 3 in Sacramento, 1 in Elk Grove, 1 in Roseville, 1 in Citrus Heights, and 1 in Folsom. Each restaurant serves the same delicious South Western food, provides an engaging atmosphere, and offers exceptional value. That includes over-the-top customer service, too! Consistency is definitely the mantra. Something many chains are not able to pull off. Today, I am at the Folsom Dos! And "hangry" to say the least. Walking in, I am happy to see Eric one of the cool employees I have run into at the Citrus Heights location. He is so pleasant and ready to take your counter order with a great big smile. Thanks, Eric! After ordering, I stroll to the outside patio in the back. It is beautiful, peaceful, and overlooks a bicycle path that is so lovely. This is probably my favorite of all the locations. The menu items are all bomb. Specials are offered at each location. Right now they include: Frito Pie, Grilled Shrimp Grain Bowl with Strawberry Salsa, Sizzling Fajitas - Grilled Vegetables, the 505 Chili-Cheese Burrito, Sizzling Fajitas - Garlic/Chile Shrimp, Sizzling Fajitas - Traditional Tex-Mex, Green Chile Stew, an Hank's Cubano. Whew! The run down for each of these specials would be impossible to include. But I can assure you, the menu descriptions sound mouth watering. I love that the farm-to-table movement is supported and celebrated at each location, resulting in the best food from the freshest ingredients! Bobby Coyote (yep...that is his name) states in his bio that Dos Coyotes is the result of two major inspirations. His love of Santa Fe and his childhood in Los Angeles. In LA, he ate some of the best, authentic Mexican food. A trip to Santa Fe introduced him to creating fusions and hybrids with other cultures that came to define "Southwestern Cuisine." Delicious!!! Sustainability efforts are supported and listed on their website t. Community involvement is a part of the culture, and ways to engage with the business are made available on the website. All I can say is the food totally rocks at each and every Dos Coyotes Border Café. There is something for everybody! Adult beverages. I LOVE the Hornitos Margaritas! Kid drinks and menu. Clean, organized, and the lines move quickly. These employees are on it! I have never had a problem parking at any of the restaurants. This is a very special chain of cafès and we are sooooooo lucky to have them in our region. Welp, I certainly had my DOS today! Have you had yours? :-)

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food - this ain't the place for you. What you get though is a Tex-mex/ New Mexico or Arizona style- mex style fresh meal. I ordered the green enchilada plate with chicken enchiladas and the bf got one of the Spring specials- Hank's cubano. The enchiladas were great and flavorful - the sauce had a sweet tanginess to it - similar to one of the green tomatillo salsas from the salsa bar. It also came with choice of beans and rice and chips. Hank's cubano is a spin on a cuban sandwich- its actually not on bread at all but rather a tortilla and it comes with an amazing housemade mustard dipping sauce. That definitely sold me. I had to steal one of the pieces off my bf's plate ;P. The color, decor, and vibe is so fun with vibrant colors and cute sculptures and statues. It's a casual place and you just go up to the counter to order and they give you a number and you choose a seat and they bring the food out to your table. Service was great and quick. They have lots of fun drinks by the can/bottle displayed nicely and even alcohol options. They also have fountain drinks. Their Salsa bar is also quite the display with many mild to spicy options. We tried a few different ones (see photo). I think the fact that my boyfriend loves this place and he gave me the background on it and how to prep for it really made it the 5 star for me. Thank you for this experience Dos Coyotes!

Ranchero Burrito

We went on Tuesday night to get a take away for dinner. The parking was full so I had to circle once to get a spot. The restaurant was quite busy but the line moved quickly. We got our order within 10 mins of ordering. - Kids chicken burrito: my kid said it was good but the portion was so small that he was still hungry - Ranchero burrito a la carte with chicken: good portion with loads of delicious sauce and melting cheese. The burrito itself was delicious and flavorful. - Tortilla chips: fresh, crispy & delicious! Tips: There is a self-serve salsa with different spiciness. Get the sweet & mild salsa! It was DELICIOUS!!! The spicy pico de gallo was good & fresh too.

I'm back. We dropped on in for dinner this past Friday. The place was a buzz. The dining room was pretty packed and some folks braved the 90sh temp to sit outside. I choose to sit inside with air conditioning. The line to order & pay went fairly quickly and our food was brought to our table quickly as well. I ordered the Roadrunner chicken sandwich $10.95. It was on their specials menu. I never had it before and sounded delicious and it was. No actual roadrunners were hurt to make the sandwich, but I can't say that about the chicken. The charbroiled chicken breast filet was very thin. It was paillard style meaning the meat was pounded to a very thin thickness. Almost to the point of where's the chicken? The house made green chile jam packed a bit of heat and gave the sandwich a tasty flavor kick. The sandwich had arugula. I am not a fan of dressing a sandwich with argula or spring mix because with each bite a bit fell out. I washed it down with a bottle of Boylans grape soda. Hubs ordered a crispy taco and side of beans and rice. He washed that down with a bottle of Dr Pepper. He enjoyed his food and pop. The complimentary salsa bar is fantastic. They have a large selection of mild, medium, and hot salsas. But Dos Coyotes does not provide additional chips besides the small serving served with each plate. For non-local Sacramento folks, let me tell you a bit about Dos Coyotes. It is a locally founded casual restaurant chain with a Southwest themed menu focusing on fresh, farm to fork ingredients. At most all the locations, there is a quirky public art display. At this location in Folsom, they have a large Red Bull kinetic art sculpture. I have seen the head move on non windy days but darn if I know how.

Then the first thing that caught my attention was the poke bowls starting at $22. It felt like an obscene number (and now, I assume that it is on par with this shopping center), but I was really wanting poke for lunch. The staff were friendly, but I was even more disappointed with how liberal they were with the rice and greens, but then throttled the fish servings with the cookie dough scooper. It was even more tough when I see the other working helping out their friend and giving an extra half scoop. After trying it, it definitely wasn't worth $24 for the medium, but it was quite tasty. While I would default to the 3 out of 5, I did appreciate the worker doing the sauces in a separate bowl with the veggies and non-marinted fish, while keeping the marinated fish in the bowl. I appreciate this intentionality, and would come back in a heartbeat if it was priced at even 16/18/20. But unless I really wanted poke again, I don't see myself paying that much again for it.

And we got to squeak in an order of the Ahi Nachos, which I believe are only offered on Happy Hour, and OMG, they were SO good. We were still talking about them the next day. The "nachos" were like a fried wonton. And just all around, the entire dish was delicious! Spicy jalapeños, quality tuna. Go to this place, even JUST for these nachos. The spicy crab (or lobster, I can't remember) bisque, was also really good. I'd recommend it. Mildly spicy, not crazy. My coworker got the caesar salad, and was very underwhelmed with it. For my entree I got the Pesto Scallop pasta. The scallops were overcooked, and underwhelming, in size. But I acknowledge that could just be the season. Doesn't excuse the fact that they were overcooked. The pesto sauce was yummy! I give this place a solid 4 stars, and would definitely revisit next time I'm back in the area. Ahi Tuna Nachos get a 5 star, though, for sure. Thanks for hosting us!

The price per person is a bit higher than other all you can eat hotpot places, but the quality of the ingredients more than justifies it. I have honestly never had hotpot with such high quality black tiger shrimp, and the beef was the best I have ever had at a hotpot restaurant. In Las Vegas, hotpot of this same quality usually costs significantly more, so this place is absolutely worth trying. There were a couple of substitutions: extra spinach instead of mashed potatoes with the salmon and fingerling potatoes instead of the mashed potatoes with the ribeye. FOOD we started with the chilled prawn cocktail. the prawns were fantastic, and the cocktail sauce was divine. we jumped into a cup of lobster bisque; which was something i was looking forward to. unfortunately, the soup tasted like a very bland tomato fish soup. ugh. it lacked flavor and i don't think there was hardly any lobster in it. major bummer! we go the surf and turf (with lobster), the rib eye, and mushrooms and brussels to accompany the steaks. TONS of food, which was nice (especially for the price)! both steaks were ordered medium rare; the filet was cooked as ordered and the rib eye was on the medium/medium well side. however, the major bummer with the rib eye was the menu states well marbled but the steak gas VERY fatty when you're paying $62 for a USDA prime, "well-marbled" (per the menu's description) steak, the last thing i'd expect is to describe the steak as more fatty then marbled. the sides were great; the garlic mashed potatoes with the soy wasabi sauce were incredible! SERVICE our server started out very attentive and progressively we saw him less and less throughout the night; waiting for the check, needing water refills, etc. i get that everyone has busy tables and the F&B industry is having a tough time, but dang. at a place like this, i'd expect top notch service throughout the dining experience! AMBIANCE it's very nice inside. super cool bar when you first walk in. lots of spacious seating so you're not sitting on top of one another and modern decor. after having worked in F&B, i totally understand the industry; some nights people call out, larger parties consume the kitchen, etc. but for the price, nothing really seemed to blow us out of the water :( hopefully it was just a bad night that we went. it has a great reputation for a reason! hoping the next visit is a better experience!
