While on break I was craving nachos so much. Decided to look up the closest Mexican restaurant. Stumbled upon this one. Since I only had 1 hour and was with my scooter the possibilities of me going inside to check out the restaurant was low. The host was able to accommodate me with seating outside, which was great because the weather was beautiful. One waitress was taking care of the guests outside. She was attentive; while still maintaining tables. Did an amazing job I would say. The food was the problem. It was all over the place and had so many burnt pieces. When i asked for nachos this was not what i was expecting, not sure what i was expecting but it definitely wasn't that. Menus are cute and the drinks were pretty good. View is Manhattan streets lol.

Dos Caminos used to be a neighborhood favorite 10 or so years ago, but it's not the same as it used to be. I came here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. We were a large group and they were able to seat all of us early, which was nice. The food was mid-grade to be honest. We had 2 orders of queso and 2 orders of guacamole. The amount of chips didn't match what you would get and no one ever came back to check in on us. I ordered a taco salad, which was a nice portion. I had a margarita which tasted like a batch mix vs a house made cocktail. Our server dropped off the food and I don't think I ever saw them again. The bussers were the only people to come and check on us. We had an extremely wobbly table in the back of the restaurant. It was loud, so not a place where you could talk. Overall it was okay, but I wouldn't come back to this location.

Nacho comparison: top is Electric Burrito ($14 including chicken protein) and bottom is Dos Caminos ($24 no protein)

Ordered nachos to compare from here and Electric Burrito. Placed the order on the phone, told them I was looking for good nachos, and I arrived 13min later, 10min walk back. The nachos were terrible. Chips were all glued together and soft. No part was crispy. It didn't sit long enough for it to have gotten that soggy so could tell immediately that the whole dish was microwaved. For the $24 price point this was super disappointing. Definitely dont recommend

The main saving grace for this restaurant is their location and large seating area outdoors for a view of the city. We stopped by because of the Great Migration of Elephants exhibit in front of their patio area. The food is average. We ordered guacamole with chips, baja fish tacos, and sizzling fajitas with shrimp. The portions were small except for the chips. However, the shrimp was overcooked and burnt or charred. Non-alcoholic drinks were also overpriced. Our mocktail pina colada was 60% ice for the price of two drinks and more than double the price of our orange juice. The service was so slow that you felt time dragging on. It took forever to order as well as receive our food and takeout boxes, which never came. Hence, we just bagged our leftovers in our own containers and left after paying the bill because we had no clue when our waitress would return. Their staff is friendly, but it seems to run at their pace without considering the customer's time and money. Parking is tough on the street. Perhaps, you can luck out with a nearby lot if you're not taking public transit or a taxi. Given the above reasons, I'll likely try what else the city has to offer unless I absolutely need a break amidst the city for a pitstop her again.

Baja Pescado Tacos

A classic Mexican spot serving up tacos and enchiladas -- they're conveniently located right by the West Side Highway, would come back for drinks when their patio is open. The Fish Tacos were tasty, but the rice and beans were nothing crazy. I wish there was the option to order individual tacos rather than a whole platter.

Baja Pescado---Fish tacos Chefs Kiss!!

Stopped by for a quick bite yesterday. What an amazing experience. From the excellent customer service to the I had fish tacos and a Margarita. Delicious!!!!. If you are looking for some delicious food, this is the spot. I highly recommend. I have to return with my foodies

It was ok. Like fast food for Mexican. Drinks and music was good.. and the servers were attentive .. that's about it :)

Avocado Caesar salad

I visited here for restaurant week: you get an appetizer and a main dish for $30. I got the avocado Caesar salad which was okay. My friend asked for agua fresca or Mexican coke and they had none (red flag). I ordered the carnitas tacos which were okay, not very juicy. You can definitely get better at any taco truck in Jackson Heights. I asked for green and red sauce and the waitress said they had no green sauce but that she would bring the red sauce. She ended up bringing chips and salsa. The salsa was trash. I ended up asking another waitress for green sauce and she brought it over right away. The waitress failed to refill our glasses of water and only did it at the very end which defeats the purpose. Dos Caminos is a tourist trap and is an Americanized version of Mexican food.

Chicken burritos w. small order of guacamole and small order of queso.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.

Although I had a reservation, I was instructed to go to the bar. Literally no home at the bar whatsoever. Granted I know Mexican restaurants tend to be super crowded for Cinco de Mayo but I was a party of one. I should have been seated outside at the very least. I had to drink my frozen Patron Margarita standing up until a space at the bar open up after 20-25 minutes. Once seated, my area wasn't properly cleaned. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. Tacos are a great selection for Happy Hour and all of them (fish, chicken, carnitas) were well seasoned, the optimal amount of spiciness, and wrapped in soft shells. The Street Corn was DELICIOUS. The creamy sauce made each bite a delight and the Tahin just added to the enjoyment.
