I went here last night and loved it and felt I had to add to the many previous write-ups, most of which are spot on. Excellent northern Mexican tacos, something I don't see much or any of in Austin, at least outside of a taco truck. I will say you will go hungry with just one grande sized taco. Get the beans for an extra penny - you'll need it. I nearly went back for a second one. Perhaps they were just that good that I wanted a second taco, or perhaps I was that hungry. The beans aren't that great, but without them you will go hungry for the $5 - $6.5 price of the grande taco. Leaving semi hungry is the only reason I have it 4 stars instead o 5. read more

Oh. My. God. They have some of the most amazing tacos I've ever had. First the bad. The prices for the tacos is kinda hefty and you have to get at least two in order to fill you up. It also takes a while for the food you order to come out and almost impossible to find a seat during lunch rush. Now the good. Although the price is a bit much, it's definitely worth it. There steak Taco and chicken Taco are the bomb. Everything is made to order. They come with chips and salsa as well usually. The tacos consist of fresh avocado slice, cheese and meat. Simple but it all combines to something that is truly a masterpiece. I would eat there every day if I could. If you haven't eaten here, get the steak Taco and prepare for deliciousness. read more

This restaurant has potential, but a few big shortcomings. First, they don't have vegetarian beans. Only with bacon and chorizo. Secondly, the Mexican corn cup is SWIMMING in mayo. It looked more like mac-n-cheese. I thought it was inedible. The tacos, while served on fresh and delicious tacos, seem hastily prepared and are short on substance. They only come with your protein, bland (not Mexican) melted cheese and avocado. That's it. For two tacos, an inedible Mexican corn cup, and a drink I spent over $13. The 5 stars are mainly for the corn tortillas and charro beans. You catered our company lunch today and everyone (from what I overheard) loved your tacos set up; the chips and the charro beans. My wife and I there for lunch based on Yelper's reviews. It was very hard to find the place with all the construction for the Wal-Mart, but eventually we found it. It is south of the Conn's, and North-East of the corner of Northcross Dr and Foster Ln, in a complex of buildings that is West of the Wal-Mart construction, but the business is facing the Wal-Mart construction. I had the Pirata's regular size, the Hass regular size, and the bean soup (for a penny). One of the tacos was tremendous, but I am not sure which that was. I think it was the pirata. The other was very good, but the meat was not as succulent. I think that was the Hass. Both had avacado slices on them, so it was hard for me to tell them apart. The bean soup (Pirate Side Soup) grew on me and I ended up liking it a lot. My wife had the El Ostin, which was a veggie taco. That was great. I'll be having one next time we come here. She also got their crema y elota (creamed corn), which she liked, but I did not like much at all. It was extremely creamy and had some spice I did not care for on it. But hey, that was a penny too! We had tea with our meal, and the staff was very generous on bringing us refills as we took our time after eating, doing some business. We did get the dessert taco of the month, which was caramel and pecans, yum. It took a while for them to make it, but we were in no hurry. We ordered it after finishing our food, so if we want one next time and are in a normal hurry, we should order it at the same time as the rest of our food. The taco of the month is cochinita pibil, which we forgot to order. I bet that would have been good. The decor is nothing special, very spartan, except for the cool mural on the wall. The chairs are all molded plastic, but they are comfortable and are fine for an Austin establishment. Not a good place for a first date, unless you're the type of person who wears flip-flops for a good impression and escorts your date on a bicycle. Hey, it's Austin! I think their prices are high for what they serve. They do use quality ingredients, but the tacos don't look like their example of a stuffed with goodness drawing on their giant wall of menu. YUM. Best queso in town!! The Ostin is my favorite item on the menu - wood-fired veggie taco with avocado and queso. Probably my favorite taco in town. Stick with the wood-fired items on the menu, delish. The fish taquitos were a bit boring. The elote is FANTASTIC and they will not give you the recipe :-). Always great service, clean, fast and FRESH. I love this place and they have Topo Chico! MMmmmm. It's usually quiet depending on how many kids are in there. read more

I was disappointed in the price, and the fact that I was still hungry after eating 2 tacos. The tacos do not have a lot in them, which would be okay if they didn't cost $5 each. really like the Pirata taco and how you can get a little mini size of queso (for $1.50) Sometimes you just need a little taste of the queso. Place is clean, friendly, and has yummy and slightly pricey tacos. The red salsa comes warm and with almost everything on the menu but don't forget to try the green salsa. I'm a big fan of the salad option, with chicken, shredded cheese and the woodfired veggies, topped with the Michelada vinagrette (although the Cilantro Aioli dressing is equally tasty). Sometimes I can't resist and order a side flour tortilla, as they are made in house with sea salt and are delicious. On a mid-day whim, I stopped in to check out this place and was delighted. The place, including the bathroom, was spotless (decor a bit sparse though) and the food was WAY better than I expected. I think the prices are in-line with Torchy's or any other niche taco place. You've got 6 choices for either tacos or tortas. Beef, chicken, veggie, beef with veggie, or chicken with veggie. The 'menu' is written on the wall and takes up the length of the restaurant. I would have ordered a Michelada had I seen the beer section but it was the smallest part at the far end. I had one beef and once chicken. The wood puts a nice flavor on the meat. The corn tortillas were good the flour ok. It was counter service and even though I walked in 25 minutes before closing they were very nice and never made me feel like a late diner.
