So the parking is bad, the bar is small and the exterior is lacking. But the negatives end there. The food is very good, especially for an ethnic restaurant in rural Connecticut. The service has always been good and quick, no matter what time or day you come in. It's one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area now that Margarita's closed down. Okay, so I've only been to Dos Amigos once. I agree that the parking is terrible. However, the service was good. It could have been faster service, but everyone seemed to care that we were satisfied. I ordered the pork tamales. They were absolutely, hands down, bar none, the best pork tamales I've ever had. I'll admit that I'm not a Mexican food connoisseur. Not even close. But these tamales were so tender and moist. And they were fairly SMOTHERED with cheese! OMG - I'm drooling just thinking about them. I live on the coast in Connecticut. I've been going to Dos Amigos in Torrington since the first week they opened. Firstly, I love their salsa. Amazing taste, always fresh. Secondly, I love their quesdilla grandes and their fajitas. I don't know what kind of sauce they use to season the meat and veggies, but it's to die for. The best part is that Dos doesn't change up their recipes too often. You start to crave your favorites and you can go back again and again and again and not be disappointed. The staff is always very friendly and polite. My ONLY complaint is that Dos needs more parking! :( read more

Service is delightfully friendly! Food comes in enormous, gut-busting portions...expect leftovers. This is great for a night out; it's loud, bustling, always busy and full. Parking can be a problem at times, since the lot is small. Though, it's always a good sign when the parking lot is busting from its seams...it's a popular place! My husband and I are always looking for good mexican food. So of course we went to Dos Amigos with high hopes. This was one of the worst meals we ever had. As a matter of fact, we couldn't think of another meal we had that was worse. The salsa is blended and watery, the chimichanga was not fried but grilled on the flat top and soggy, the shredded beef filling compared to, well I won't say, but texturally it is not good. The fajitas, as mentioned in another review, were covered in a red, salty sauce. Rice crunchy, refried beans bland, pico de gallo basically just onions and guacamole slimy. I really want to eat in town and support local restaurants but will not be going back or recommending this restaurant to anyone. read more

For NW corner best Mexican food around. Food quality has rarely been an issue. Beware though, the service there is less then stellar, with botched orders and the like. Also, a particular senior level male wait staff member there has habitually padded our bill (with extra drinks and/or food prices), on numerous visits. I always leave Dos Amigos full and happy! The food is consistently delicious and portions are generous. The nachos are a perfect size to share as an appetizer, and the complimentary chips and homemade salsa are the best I've ever had. The entrees are also large and flavorful and the menu offers many options. The frozen margaritas are very decently priced and come in many tasty flavors. The salsa was watery and bland, the chips were stale, the server made it seem like they were doing me a huge favor to put chicken in the enchilada with roja sauce, and once the entree came it was greasy and strangely sweet-tasting. The food is trash similar to Taco Bell and I say that only because Taco Bell might be actually way better, because they are rude lazy and lack luster. Very poor customer service. Second time back to Dos Amigos and enjoyed as much as I did the first time! I'm a creature of habit and typically order Fish Tacos at Mexican restaurants. Dos Amigos offered Seafood Medley Tacos (or similar name) with shrimp, scallops and tilapia. OMG! They were the best!!!! In Torrington area and looking for some delish fish tacos?...I recommend that you try this place. Typical Mexican restaurant in terms of décor and service (all fine but nothing extraordinary) but these tacos were really great. read more

Dos Amigos makes the very best chicken fajitas you can imagine. I have been to many Mexican restaurants and have never had a fajita that can compare to theirs. I eat their quite often. The food here is quite simply AWFUL. Dined here this past weekend with my husband, I ordered the enchiladas special with salsa verde, which I expected to be a tomatillo-based sauce as Mexican green sauces are supposed to be. What I got were two tiny "enchiladas", which were simply flour tortillas with shredded chicken inside, topped with a mayonaisse-filled green sauce that strongly resembled salad dressing. Not only that, but the enchiladas were not baked or topped with melted cheese; they were simply two small rolled up, room temperature flour tortillas with chicken filling. Not even close to what an enchilada is! Better yet, my husband ordered a chicken burrito, which consisted of a larger flour tortilla filled with the same exact shredded chicken- and nothing else! No rice, no lettuce, no pico de gallo, no beans, no nothing!!! The only difference between my "enchiladas" and his "burrito" was that his tortilla was bigger. Apparently they only serve one dish at this place no matter what you order!! Also, the rice and beans on the side was DISGUSTING, it consisted of pasty flavorless refried beans and yellow rice with canned corn, canned peas and canned green beans scattered throughout. Completely inedible. The restaurant itself was a mess, they appeared to be in the middle of putting up Halloween decorations while the restaurant was open, and all of the tables in the front room were piled with plastic grocery bags full of assorted crap. read more

I am so disappointed. I have been going to Dos Amigos for the past 20 years (starting at original location). This had always been my favorite restaurant in Torrington. WHAT HAPPENED? The past month all I have done is dig out potatoes from my food!!!! About one month ago I was served a soggy, starchy, potato ridden, chicken chimichanga. I thought maybe it was a bad day for them and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Last week I decided to try again, but ordered something they couldn't possibly put potatoes in (or so I thought)...a shredded chicken taco salad. Wrong, I ended up picking out small chunks of potatoes from the shredded chicken. The potatoes are ruining the taste of the food. Everything is tasting very STARCHY. Before leaving, I asked if there was a new chef or something to explain the potatoes in whatever I seemed to order as of late. I then found out there is, in fact, a new chef. I will give this place six months and only hope that things go back to the way they were with the best fajitas, chimichangas, etc. in the Northwest corner. It is sad because this WAS my favorite restaurant in Torrington. At this point....the two stars is for the wonderful staff they have and have always had at the restaurant....certainly not the food the new chef is cooking. read more
