Food was good, but every single time I have been there I have felt sick after. I even threw up once. I do have stomach problems, but this is really the only restaurant that doesn't sit well with me after eating. The bar area was nice, and it was really convenient that we could eat out after the big snow. Overall, I am not going to this restaurant again to avoid future stomach issues. My first time here my In Laws is there every other day, I have a food allergy to Spicy food so I had to be extremely careful. Sara the waitress a huge shout out to her she was absolutely amazing. So with the help of Sara and in laws I found something that I can order that won't send me to the emergency room, it was a quesadilla steak with cheese and on the side was cheese rice. So I never had a quesadilla before so I don't know how to compare it to anyone else but all I can say is delicious, the cheese rice I couldn't put the fork down it was so yummy. I took a picture of everyone else's plate but I forgot the names but when asked they said it was good, the really long plate one though was a little spicy according to my in law. The Outside was a cute Yellow building walking in was also yellow, it was pretty cute for a little place. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted immediately by a friendly waitress and seated in the main dining room. There is also a bar room with tvs that were playing several of the top events happening that afternoon. Tortilla chips and fresh salsa were placed on the table which was welcome by the hungry patrons as we perused the rather lengthy menu. About the only thing missing are tamales. Not sure why, but they don't seem to be on many menus. Lunch specials are available everyday until 3:00. We ordered the shrimp taco meal and a quesadilla. Meals come with your choice of 3 sides. I got guacamole, black beans and yellow rice. The beans were pretty good but the rice and guacamole were just ok. The guacamole tasted pretty good but seemed over processed and too smooth/liquidy for a freshly made guac. The tacos were very good. The shrimp were marinated and generous in quantity. The quesadilla came with a side of sour cream and guacamole. I actually used the sour cream with my tacos and I'm glad I did. There was a familiar spice added that I couldn't quite figure out so I asked. They add white pepper to their sour cream. It was delicious (I prefer white to all other pepper.). We didn't order any dessert or drinks but the desserts looked good and the drink list was lengthy-both of which we'll have to try next time! read more

We went in on New Year's Eve. Our waitress was excellent- friendly and on top of everything. And the ambiance was nice as well. The food wasn't as good as I remembered it being (compared to previous visits), so I left feeling slightly disappointed. More specifically, the chicken in my fajitas was tough, so took awhile to chew, and not as flavorful. It pains us to lower our rating for this restaurant, but our most recent visit was sadly underwhelming. First though, the safety measures: there is indoor seating with plexiglass between booths and decent spacing. The wait staff wore masks, and tables were cleaned with alcohol rub. There was some air movement in an interior that has low ceilings. All that is good. The food and the service, however, were really below par. Let's start with (indoor) service. We've always enjoyed quick service, but on our most recent visit we had to wait over 10 minutes to be noticed after getting our menus. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive; a queso dip order took nearly a half hour. Napkins showed up late, we had to ask for chip refills, which arrived very slowly. Bottom line for service: we were in the restaurant for nearly 90 minutes from seating to paying the tab. The wait staff seemed very young and inexperienced, and there was no management oversight visible to us. Regrettably the food was quite ordinary. That queso dip was bland; the rice tasted as if it came from a bag; the guacamole was lumpy and congealed. The hard-shell tacos with shredded chicken were tasty, however, and we enjoyed out chimichangas. Not a total wash at all, but the combination of plan ness and poor service left us very unhappy. A new chef? New management? Whatever, this was not a visit to leave us with endorsements. read more

The owner is one of the kindest men. He's always willing to help out in community with legit fundraisers or to assist with a good cause. I've ordere there regularly since they were located on Winsted road but I ALWAYS GET the chicken fajitas. I'm a creature of habit. Why fix it if it's not broke. ,PRE COVID I went out to eat THERE several times and I just love the hustle as it's not often to find it not busy. I don't go out drinking like I did in my youth but the bar always seems to be busy as well baby from the old Cilfones Eastside cafe which is nice to go where everyone knows your name ( unless it's because there's nothing else to do in this extremely boring town but drink in bars which is sad but true. This review is for John, the owner of Dos Amigos in Torrington, CT I first ate at Dos Amigos during COVID, he had built out the outside to accommodate the COVID restrictions, thumbs up, way to accommodate. HOWEVER, I've eaten at Dos Amigos a couple of times since and it's been awful. I'll never return. Tonight, June 11, 2023, I went back to Dos Amigos, it was not busy. My girlfriend ordered a chicken and vegetable dish, I ordered Lomo Saltado. My gf's dish order was wrong, we immediately sent it back. It came with shrimp, which she's highly allergic to. My Lomo Saltado came out. I ate slowly waiting for my gf's dish. It never came out, despite being a slow night and restaurant being empty. I started to eat the Lomo Saltado, as we waited long enough for the other dish. We finally cancelled my gf's dish, as it never showed up. When the bill came, I asked to speak to the owner, John, who I had met before, during COVID. The waitress came over with a cook, claiming to be "John". I asked him if he was the owner, he told me "yes". He was not John, who I had met before. Nonetheless, I told him I was very disappointed, my gf's meal never came and the Lomo Saltado was disappointing, it was beef with rice with Soy sauce. I've met John, who was happy to have customers during COVID who ate at his restaurant during a tough time. So, John sent over the chef, who had nothing to say about my complaints. While I was walking out, I saw John hanging out at the bar, yucking it up, but was too busy to talk to a customer who was unpleased with his dining experience. John had as much to say as the chef portraying as the owner. Needless to say, John wasn't attentive to his customers nor his kitchen. He probably should spend less time at the bar. Lastly, When I asked for the owner, the waitress became very flustered. She likely went to John and told him of my disappointment. John was too busy hanging out, partying at the bar and sent the cook instead. She got caught in the middle, for that I again blame John. He should treat he employees and patrons with more attention. Overall ambience of the place is very homemade, slightly dirty/greasy looking but I was willing to overlook as long as the food was tasty. The chips were stale and the salsa was watery/flavorless/overly salty. I ordered the shrimp tacos with sides of sour cream and black beans. The shrimp tacos were bland and nothing special. The sour cream tasted really strange, a taste I could only describe as "funky" like it had gone bad. The black beans were very watery and SOUR for some reason, like overly sour and not in a good way. My friend got steak and shrimp fajitas which came out watery as well, and they were steaming instead of sizzling like they should have been. I have been to plenty of Mexican Restaurants throughout the country and I can say that NO other Mexican restaurant offers sizzling Fajitas like Dos Amigos. It is the only restaurant that prepares their fajitas with a tomato based sauce. Steak and chicken are juicy and Never disappoints. Plus where else can you get authentic Colombian beef empanadas. I saw every waiter and waitress bringing fajitas each time they came out from the kitchen. They make this amazing sauce that the steak must be cooked in; I have no more words for it, just get it. Seriously. They make their own salsa, and provide this with the complimentary chips; I am by no means a spicy food eater, but their house made salsa is so good, that I eat it, spices and all! This place is so good that my sister takes every single thing left in, on, and even under our dishes, home in her to-go box; she is the most frugal person I know, but she takes extra special care when taking home Dos's golden leftovers. This Mexican restaurant is now one of my favorite places. Do you know why? It's because the level of service you receive hasn't been impacted by covid. The servers (Mariah) and the bussers (Amelia) were so attentive and professional. I had to pull them aside to tell them how impressed I was with the service. And you know what? The food was absolutely what we expected-- another hard thing to do during a pandemic. PLEASE..Don't judge a book by its cover. The outside of this restaurant, parking close to street etc. does NOT reflect the inside, where we were pleasantly surprised. Quite nice. Went for lunch as many of my reviews reflect; my favorite meal of the day. I was impressed with the homemade very chunky salsa, not of the VERY liquidy variety and not too spicy, which is to our taste. Chips were more commercial than we are used to at other authentic mexican joints., but still crispy and good. I had a Coke which was in a VERY large glass, it was fresh and a PLUS for me. Two choices we made were Combo Fajitas and a Chicken Burrito. Both were excellent choices. The combo was chicken and shrimp which was $13, a little more than my usual lunch $ but I chose shrimp and that got it to that price. Worth it. Four hot tortillas. Large quantity of chicken, less shrimp of course, sizzling with TASTY onions and peppers in a red light sauce of some kind which was very good. Also shredded cheddar cheese, (I chose rice instead of beans, without problem or disappointment), sour cream (no guac. with this meal but I guess I could have requested it for $). Nice, full, happy. Chicken burrito was full, large and tasty (with refried beans and rice of course) with a mexican beer topping it off. Service was 7 out of 10 and I'm sure if we had needed anything else, we would have gotten it, but it felt a tiny bit long to get out of the restaurant once we were done. A pet peeve of mine on lunch-hour. The restaurant was quite empty, so service was good but we'd like to see the service when the restaurant is a little busier as it might have been a little less attentive. A very nice Torrington spot. Some of the worst Mexican i have had. Ordered the enchilada roja. Was awful. The tortia was soaked in grease from the really spicy, greasy beef, that was the only thing wrapped in there btw. Refried beans were dull tasting, just like the guacamole. Returned that dish and ordered the sampler dish that was the same contents rearranged. No signs of any vegetable anywhere! While staying outside of Winsted we visited this place to get our Mexican fix. We liked it so much, we came twice during the week we were in town. My only complaint with this place is that both the salsa (free) and the queso dip (not free) lacked much flavor... I wish they could spice these up a bit. Our lunches, however, were very good. Portions are big, although the prices are a little on the high side. Pro Tip: Ask for a lunch menu with the a la carte items. My husband and I decided to try this place out since I have a ridiculous love for Mexican food and because they were just opened. We live around the corner so why not! I ordered a margarita and guacamole to start and while neither were anything to write home about there was nothing wrong with them. I had their beef and cheese enchilada plate for the main and while the beef was good the cheese was just a bit rubbery and too much (even coming from someone who loves cheese on everything) and I couldn't finish that one. The sides were standard Mexican restaurant food, again, good but not amazing. The service was a bit dodgy but they have just opened so that might just be them getting into the swing of things.
