My son wanted a seafood boil so we made our way here. We had a good experience. Called for a table for three at 5:30'on a Saturday. They have lots of entertainment- which looked fun if we lived closer. A queen boil with crawfish added (we would skip these in the future), loaded tots, and a bacon cheeseburger basket cost $125- with sodas. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was nostalgic. It's unique for the area. I give them credit for providing an interesting way to hemorrhage money as a customer. Menu cannot decide if it's Mexican or New Orleans. But still, we wanted the experience. Ugh. It's like I saw myself sliding slowly toward the guardrail on an icy road and I couldn't do anything to stop it. Ugh. Family of 4. 2 of whom are big teenaged boys. Appetizers: Wings - disapoonting frozen Tyson breaded kind. Blue cheese clearly straight out of the bottle. Blackened bison nachos - pretty good. A little dry. Very few veggies. Small 2oz soufflé cup of jarred salsa and sour cream (this turns out to be the best part of the dinner). Dinners: 3 different boils and one ultimate shrimp basket. Seafood was decently cooked. Very greasy and buttery - almost to the point where it only tasted like fake butter. Oh, add sausage to your boil (which it should by definition have)... sure add $$$. Want it "extra juicy?" No problem .... More $$$. The food comes in a clear kitchen trash bag. You're given a bib and subway sandwich artist gloves - when all is combined with the fake butter... nothing can be held in your hands. I felt like I was picking through the trash for my meal. I couldn't wait to be out of food. I just wanted it to end. Everyone at the table, at some point, said "they wished they ordered a burger...". Ugh. Oh, the atmosphere ... it was dead silent with the addition of repetitive slamming of a snare drum from the JV band warming up for 2 hours. Thank God we left before they started playing. It was dead silent as management reserved all but 4 tables for those perhaps coming to see the band. So there was NO atmosphere at 6pm on a Saturday night. Just empty tables that could not be used. Note: they were still empty at 720 when we left. The worst part... we literally needed to order dessert to get the grease and stingingly hot/salty tastes out of our mouths. Thus, pushing our bill over the (DRUM ROLL) $300 mark. In-effing-sane! There is a tavern next door. A KFC 1/4 mile away. As well as a food court at Big Y. Any of those would have been a better idea. We were in Torrington, there's literally hundreds of better places. We just wanted to try the experience. Well, we had one. Service was good (because it was empty yet fully booked). We started with the chips and guac and they were great. The chips came out warm and the guacamole was flavorful. For our main meal we ordered a seafood boil, and it was honestly delicious -- perfectly cooked, not overdone, and seasoned really well. I'd definitely get it again. My daughter had the mac and cheese and that was good. Also worth mentioning: the service was great from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Friendly, attentive, and overall a really good experience. Yes, the boils are on the expensive side, but it just is what it is -- and for us, it was worth it. As the peas are avid seafood boil eaters, we think this place should try again. let's just say everything is frozen! App was pretty much frozen Texas toast garlic bread from the freezer section at stop and shop. One pea is Pescatarian, so she had the Salmon burger, and I'm surprise it did not make her sick. would not recommend. Other pea had a classic boil with crab legs and shrimp, seafoods was def frozen or overcooked, very chewy although sauce was alright. overall was mad to have to pay for such meal. We've been to many crab boils throughout the south , perhaps this is why I so want to love this local place& to see them do well . This place has so much potential, it's adorable inside & very clean , but I don't think the owner has a clue. They really need to work with their staff . 4 th. time and last time back, 9.00 beer served with a inch of foam on top in a tiny glass . The lady bar tending doesn't have a clue. For that price you should be getting a full glass of ale . My friend's Cuban sandwich was equally disappointing. She's had this sandwich all over the country.....this was not even close. Our waiter built it up saying it was secret family recipe from the chef's family.....( I think they should keep that secret to themselves) . My taco salad with the shredded beef was no better than a pre packaged gas station salad. For 15.99 it was very disappointing. No dressing but served with a plastic cup of bland jar salsa and a plastic cup of sour cream. The fried seafood is always so overcooked , I don't understand why they can't train their cooks better. Wish they'd take them to Lenny and Joes or Bills Seafood in Westbrook and show them how good fried seafood is cooked. This place has so much potential but the food continues to miss the mark. Been here a few times. Very mixed feelings so far. One I keep getting the same waitress every time. Shes older, doesn't smile. Comes off as super miserable. She never comes back to check on you. Had to approach her once for our check cause she never came back. Everyone else I've encountered was very polite. Food quality: it's in the lower side. The chicken is the bottom of the barrel. It was crunchy and chewy. The chorizo taco was lil dried bits of sausage. Kids chicken nuggets are repulsive. Not like any chicken nugget I've had before. Tasted weird and very gritty. Had a few other small things that were decent. Have not had any cocktails or been to any of the events. Atmosphere is ok. I'm willing to give it another shot. read more

This is a Caucasian/Mexican fusion seafood boil that certainly has its..little systems in place for when melanated people enter. The host was pleasant and we arrived before the live music and were the only table in the dining room. There was no overt rudeness or the other r word but they did play that song that says..."And all the colored girls sing do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do." while we were waiting for our meal... This person I went with thought she was being crafty and texted me to treat me for my birthday on a day that wasn't my birthday... I was "game" this year so I agreed to let her "treat me" So I gave her two choices and described both and she chose this one. I also happened to have a car on this day and it was a workday for her so I offered to drive but she decided she wanted to drive so... We went. The alligator bites which we ordered as an appetizer to share are the tail portion so that's a plus and they were good but no remoulade. They offered a mayo/ketchup mixture. We each got a boil bag. She ordered snow crab and shrimp. I ordered all snow crab. I ordered mild and she ordered spicy. The size of the snow crab was excellent. They were full and meaty and I personally prefer the taste of snow crab over king crab so that was really good. The quality of their seafood was good and the price was reasonable for the amount. Our waitress was pleasant. We ordered lemonade that she told me was $8 dollars once we got the bill. She didn't want me to worry about what we were ordering and the cost but I thought that was ridiculous after she told me. I had to let her know about that song playing. I laughed, She was like "Oh, HELL no!".. anyway..they ended up switching the spice level. They gave me the spice (all crab) and her the mild (crab and shrimp)... The waitress was pleasant and apologetic once we realized and let her know what happened. We weren't trying to play into whatever they were doing. We aren't African-American performance patrons...We let her know we know it wasn't her fault. And adjusted. I hate giving low ratings to restaurants, but my last experience here was truly miserable. The music during the day was blasting so loud I couldn't think or hear the waitress, guys at the bar yelling and rowdy. The snow crab is more expensive than anywhere else in town ($43 for 2 clusters). The first cluster was great, but the second was extremely dried out and chewy. This is an average place for food at best. Some of the staff are really nice. Just be on the lookout for the mangers... I watched them publicly humiliate a teenage employee in front of the whole restaurant. Meanwhile the manager named Billy is always drunk while working. Was there for a fun night out with friends to listen to a band this past Saturday and a half hour into our night when the food runner brought our food to the table he spilt my full soda into my lap. Needless to say when I stood up it looked like I had gone for a swim. The managers solution was to have me come to the bar for a shot? I did not feel like walking through a restaurant with dripping wet shorts. We had to have our food packed up and leave, thus ruining the plans for the rest of the night. Just came home from probably the WORST dining experience of our lives. No one in the restaurant...that's a sign. Both of our beers were flat, to start. Oysters were good, then we were informed that future oysters that night were buy one get one free...did they need to get rid of them?? Ordered clam-bake-style bags...husband ordered clams ($18), I ordered snow crab legs (market price $43!!). Came with corn, potato. He added kielbasa, I added andoullie (+7$ each). Waiter came out and plopped bags onto the bar in front of us. Double-bagged, clear plastic bags, food literally swimming in butter. That's it! NO PLATES. Asked for plates...were given dumbfounded looks by server and waitress...were provided with tiny thin cardboard tubs, like from a food truck for french fries...told us "this is what we have for plates"...server scrambled because omg these crazy people are asking for plates! And came up with a serving tray for me to use, a metal Corona beer bucket for my husband to use, as plates. No utensils...you can't make this stuff up... I got a weird red plastic thing that broke at the first use. And plastic cups, plastic forks. Messy, messy. Husband ate his clams, threw out his kielbasa, corn, and potatoes because they were saturated in butter. I struggled with my $43 crab legs because I didn't want to waste them, but we were both like, omg, get me out of here.
