I've been coming to this place for well over a decade if not longer, and I will say that it's one of my favorite places to go when I just want to pig out. This is not a super upscale place, but you will still find it comfortable, easy to navigate the food selections, and the service is always on point and quick. They have a large spread of food items, from your usual General Tso's and lo mein, to braised pork, to chicken wings and French fries for the kiddos. There is a large spread of meat and veggie options for everyone, and they serve slightly different items during their dinner hours. Price right now after tax for lunch hours (until 3pm) is $13.90, which for an all you can eat place is absolutely insane. I encourage everyone to try a little piece of each option you want, because you can always go back for more at any time! There's a cold octopus dish that is my personal favorite and if I could ever learn the recipe I'd eat it non stop, but genuinely, this is a nice chill place with average to really good food quality, and there's so many things to pick from that no one will be left without options. I highly recommend this place, and even after moving cross country for years I always come back here and will continue to do so each time. read more

We arrived around 5::30 pm. The food seemed not very fresh. The varieties seemed limited compared to other similar places.

I haven't been here in a long while, so I decided last night to go and see if it improved from the last time I was here. The food was like warm not even hot which I was not shocked but hopeful thinking... They made the Sweet and Sour Chicken so huge that the breading was gross, I honestly think they didn't deep fry it enough. The broccoli and Chicken was off not sure if it sat too long, The Orange Chicken was actually delicious which actually made me very happy, the yellow rice was freshly put out and that also made me happy because it was good. The dessert's are the same but the cake is dry, ice cream comes in little cups. The service is okay, there was barely anyone there but for some odd reason they say so close to other people. The waitress was very gloomy she wasn't happy being their in my opinion. If I could leave zero stars I would. 2 people in our group felt sick the whole night and another one had diarrhea since we left last night all throughout this morning. The "chicken tender" my niece got was grey inside and made her nauseous. when we complained they told us it was cookie dough in the fryer. I will NOT be going back to this place. I was looking forward to eating here on Easter Sunday with my friend and my partner even though my partner warned that he has gotten sick from the food before, we decided to give it a chance, and shortly after finishing our meals my partner began to feel sick and when I got home I immediately violently vomited everything I ate and I am suffering from chronic stomach pains. Torrington's Super Buffet is the most expensive buffet in town, but also the best. It's cheap sister, Lotus Blossom (same owners) across town is a close second...and China Star...well, they don't even enter the equation because they just suck that badly. Sushi is plentiful and delish. No odd combos like at Lotus Blossom. The fried rice is ALWAYS good. They have this banana pudding/Nilla Wafer thing on the dessert table which is my favorite Chinese buffet staple ever. Less food offered, more money for it. Price is almost $17 per person now, plus $2.50 for a soda. They have fewer offerings, no crab legs, no pork or beef roast. Ice cream is in little cups, no sundaes. I would estimate they offer 15 less items than they previously did and now charge more. Plenty of empty tables but they seat you right next to other diners, so we moved our table anyway. I don't want to sit 3 feet from some hairy guy with a tank top on one side and a crying kid on the other. There were dozens of empty tables and plenty of employees. Overall, the food wasn't as good tasting either and the higher cost it's not worth going anymore. read more

Super buffet is back! After reading the reviews i was a bit concerned but as i sit here in an immense sense of precovid normalcy, i find myself releasing a sigh of relief. (Though NOT everything is back- the sushi bar's gone- but i never cared for buffet sushi so this has no bearing on my rating) Along with myself, there's one large group of elderly diners and about 15 other tables occupied. The chatter is loud, nobody is wearing any masks but a few of the waitstaffs. This is expected since ct has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. And as of this writing, you dont need to wear masks indoors in ct if you are vaccinated.( though that might change with delta running amok - but right now we are free to dine normally) While i try to finish my salmon im thinking about the teryaki pork, the pepper steak, coconut chicken. This is one of the few buffets that offers seafood during lunch - clams, stuffed and fried shrimp, and did i mention the salmon? They also have "fried saba fillet"- which is fried fish, but dont remember ever seeing it being served here precovid. There are some familiar faces in the staff, and my interaction with them is awkward as ever....which makes me forget about covid even more, bringing me back to how things were before and how things will be again. Cant finish the teriyaki pork. Its just too much, they need to chop it into smaller pieces cus its just one giant slab of pork. I push my half finished plate to the corner of the table in the other side and the waitress comes to collect the plate. Again, i awkwardly said "sorry" to her for not being able to finish everything, who probably dont care and just gave me this blank "what do you expect me to say in return" type of look. Good times. I had 3 plates full of glorious food and i cant be happier. It was 11.95 plus drinks for lunch. I can barely walk..but im just so happy. Im sure the rating is a bit inflated and reflective of my emotional state at the moment and should really be 3.5 to 4 stars. But im just glad theyre still here. read more

First things first they HOVER over u and watch u while u eat making u feel uncomfortable while ur eating please don't get up to use the bathroom they will come take your plate with out even knowing if your finished or not . when asked if they will be putting out a tray of crab legs they lady looked at me dirty and said 10mins so I waited and then she came out looked at me dirty again and THREW 5 lousy legs into a tray and walked away . the bill was outrageous 17$ per person ? And there was barely any food out at 6:30pm ? They need better staff and better attitudes towards customers read more

This is by far my wife's favorite Chinese Buffet. We drive about an hour to get here and usually go every Christmas Day with my brothers family. The food is fresher than any other Chinese Buffet we have been to. My favorite part is the excellent sushi bar and my sons favorite is the dozen flavors of ice cream and sherbet. read more

I LOVE THIS BUFFET!!! Torrington Super Buffet has a vast selection of food, probably more than other buffets I have been to. A great selection of Chinese food for the indecisive and for those who want a little bit of everything. The quality of the sushi is excellent. It is comparable to the rolls that you would find at a Japanese restaurant. The sushi variety changes daily depending on who is the sushi chef for that day, but regardless it is very delicious. The hibachi is great also, as you can mix and match your own ingredients and the hibachi chef cooks it up for you hot and fresh. They also have some choices that are great for kids, like chicken nuggets, fries and macaroni and cheese. I do like that they have a good selection of seafood dishes during lunch as that is when I usually go. I have been there for dinner a few times and they have an even more variety of seafood, such as crab legs. I love everything that I have tried there. I am a sucker for fried foods (bad, bad) and I would always get some fried chicken wings, fried shrimp, and sweet and sour chicken on my plates. The fried chicken is especially delicious, very crispy and not greasy. The fried shrimp is light and buttery. I especially love it when there is tempura sushi available. Very delicious! Service is excellent every time. The servers there are very friendly and are very prompt with clearing your tables and refilling your drinks. They love chatting with customers as well, making the atmosphere of the restaurant very pleasant. Even though I reside in Middletown (for now), I definitely would go out of my way and drive all the way up to Torrington when we are in the mood for a Chinese buffet. As I sit here updating my review of Torrington Super Buffet I am in such gastro-intestinal distress that it's not even funny. The last few times I've been to this buffet, which has been my favorite mind you, the food has been sub par. The staff, standing there like Terminators and then later on a follow up meeting in the bathroom. This past visit last night was worse than it has been. Some of the food was cold. Some just not cooked properly and the food that was tasted off. At $15 a person with soda this was a waste of money and has been a waste of money for a while now. The sushi, which was once very good, has gone downhill. Stale, less than fresh. Low quality fish. Not the way to run a business. I don't know what has changed but my opinion they really let this place go. What a shame. Will I return? I might return in the future to see if they have improved any but not likely. The location is out of my way and to consistently be disappointed and end of in the bathroom each time is enough for my to recognize that the red flags are there and I need to just not go there anymore. read more

We come from a place where there are no buffets. I had to explain the concept to my kids, but they wouldn't believe it. Naturally skeptical, they thought there must be some catch. I would say the catch is that there's a lot of filler at this buffet. However, what is not filler is actually pretty great. I get that not everything at a buffet can be solid gold, but cottage cheese? Canned fruit? Is Torrington really such a wilderness that someone will stumble in and exclaim, "They have hard-boiled eggs, Clara! We're saved!"? Anyway, we ignored Preston's advice to come when it's busy, to our cost. At 9:30 p.m., there were only a few diners, and thus not many sushi choices. But what there was tasted fresh and looked perfect. The eel was complimented by all, but the spicy tuna roll, while good, was not particularly spicy. Rolls were all good; kids still not quite believing that, yes, you can get up and eat more. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the Chinese items. The peppery chicken was moist and had a pleasant kick, and the green beans still tasted perfectly crisp after who-knows-how-long sitting on that table. But the broccoli in one dish was overcooked to the point of limpness, and the honeyed chicken is so glutinous as to be inedible. There was a lack of spice in everything from the lo mein to General Tso's chicken; they were fine, but they could have been delicious. The fried dumplings were not bad, and the tiny stuffed mushrooms were tasty. It took everyone a few minutes of looking to locate the steamed rice: right where it belonged, in a rice maker at one of the middle buffet tables. D'oh. The servers are terse but very efficient. If their English seemed better, I would have quizzed them about why there is no beer. Maybe a liquor license doesn't make sense, but wouldn't it help the bottom line? Here's the point in the evening where the kids learn the sad truth about all those pretty little squares of cake: Don't bother. But, give them credit, they discovered that the puffs of fried dough are greasy goodness, and that the ice cream is in the freezer case near the sushi. No catch at all to that. read more

This place is definitely hit or miss. I go at least a few times a year, and always with my family. It seems like lately, every time I've gone, I've been very seriously let down. That being said, I went last Friday with my two older children (6 &8). I love sushi, but always steered away from theirs because I didn't particularly trust it. This time, I dove right in. Their california rolls are definitely edible, and their rainbow rolls were delish. They had some great philly rolls, but the star was the shrimp tempura roll. It was really fresh and good! I also tried the spicy tuna, and it was very tasty. I do like their crab legs, as well as their peeled/deveined shrimp, and steamed baby clams. For the price, the seafood is totally worth it. I did find that the fried shrimp aren't deveined, though. Ew, gross. The "Chinese" specialties are pretty standard, and some of them are very blah. I really enjoy their pan fried dumplings, as well as their green beans. They are so crunchy and have just the right amount of garlic. The general tso's is substandard, as well as most of the "beef and broccoli" and the like. The "American" specialties all look like they are pre-prepared frozen foods, so I don't eat them. Most of their fruits are canned, save for the fresh pineapple and watermelon. Go with the ice cream for dessert, the cakes are dry and crappy. My kids love this place, and my 6 year old daughter gets some odd looks when she digs into a heaping plate of clams. Overall, it's the best buffet in Torrington. Go at a busy time. I've been there and everything's been cold and disgusting. Try the sushi. Eat the crab legs. Don't come and expect the best meal of your life and you won't be dissappointed! read more

Our family's favorite buffet; I'd really give it a 3.5 but that's not an option. It must be a 4, because we do keep coming back. It's not the "best" Chinese food, but it is VERY good and always consistent. They have crab legs and a made-to-order hibachi, which makes it worth it for me. They serve sushi too. Non-Chinese food entrees in their buffet include fried zucchini (I love them!), fried chicken which is very good, and pizza. So there is something for everyone. The desserts are not great, but you'll be full before you get there. The pudding is always good. We have to travel about 40 minutes to get there, but we do try to go at least every other month. It's great for when you're hungry and there are nearby shops to walk around in afterwards. read more

The staff kept talking to my parents because they spoke the same dialect, but I thought it was a bit annoying because I just wanted to eat with my family. They charged us extra for tea and I thought it was a bit weird because they're generally free. I think. My mother got sick from their raw oysters the next day. I took a couple stars off for that. I did tell my mom to lay off the oysters because it's not exactly good to shovel down raw seafood. My dad enjoyed the food. He went HAM on it. Okay, chinese buffets can be a gamble. The Super Chinese Buffet on 202 is a winner. It's your usual buffet food: greasy, mostly fresh (relative to your definition) and in abundance. But here, it's damn good. Service is prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere is no frills but pleasant. This is the one kind of place that you DO want to dine at while it's busy, since the food is consistently fresh and hot out of the oven. Or, syrupy-out-of-the-can, in the case of some of their 'fresh fruits'! Now, the sushi: cheap and delicious. All you can eat. I love it. It's seems silly to go to Fuji just down the street and splurge over $100 for two when you can come here and indulge for $30. It's good stuff, and the sushi bar chef will generally accomodate any custom requests with a smile (I always go for sashimi)... just don't forget to tip them, too! Great place. read more

My experience(s), and I am somewhat of a regular, is with lunchtime. As of 8/07/08 it was only $6.95 for all-you-can-eat buffet including the usual suspects and Chinese dishes but the difference for me is that this restaurant has the best and most choices of shrimp of any buffets I've frequented. All shrimp at the salad bar, good sized too, is peeled & deveined, as well as several hot dishes including VERY tasty shrimp abound. Can you tell I'm a shrimp lover? I am also VERY picky about the shrimp that I eat. Their sushi bar is also very diversified and I also enjoy the freshly steamed little neck clams on their bar. All is replenished regularly and is HOT and cooked to perfection. NOOO, the sushi is NOT hot! This place is also VERY clean. It is the first thing I notice in ANY restaurant!! My favorite dessert concoction is a hot apple strudel I schmush into a large soup mug and top with vanilla ice cream. Make it yourself at the buffet in Torrington on Rte. 202 next to Big Lots. Recommended and heading off to eat there today. I must restate as with the last reviewer, Watch out for the "Happy Birsday" song as it plays on the loud speaker as a celebration for a patron...It's a hoot. I LOVED IT the food is well prepared. I noticed that everything was very clean and the environment was very welcoming. Our waitress was super friendly and she even suggested us a really good "traditional Chinese" dessert. Overall, this buffet is one of the best in town.
