Extremely rude when you let them know what they are giving you is the wrong size. They clearly don't listen to clear instructions. I've specifically said what I wanted and they chose to not listen. Stop deleting my review bc you guys are horrible at customer service read more

If people expecting food will be ready in 5-10 minutes and they should try to cook the food themselves and see how long it takes. All restaurants, supermarkets and foods suppliers everything's ran up, we all should try to stick together and helping each other out. If the foods don't taste right just call or bring it back and let them know, so they can make an improve. read more

Moon Star Restaurant - Chinese Near Me - Torrington, Connecticut

I have always gone here for takeout. It's for Chinese food standards it's always very good. I always get the mei fun before going on a trip! They cook Szechuan style very well! read more

Horrible!!! I ordered vegetable fried rice and was very specific of the vegetables I wanted. They gave me garbage and hardly any of the vegetables I wanted. It cost me almost $14 for garbage. read more

Moon Star is our favorite Chinese food restaurant in Torrington. The food is consistent and the recipes taste good. Orders are always ready quickly. Make sure you bring cash, as they prefer not to take credit cards. My favorites are the Kung Pao Chicken and the pork lo mein. read more

If I could do zero it would be zero! I should of had my red flag warning up when they said the food be ready about 5 to 10 minutes. Let's start with the Beef and Broccoli and Crab Rangoon before I can even snap a picture my boyfriend stormed off cussing and tossing it into the trash, he said it was covered in oil and it tasted off the crab Rangoon was soggy and chewy. I honestly never seen him so mad he has never thrown out food before he just shrugs and says never again. Now for mine I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken Combo meal the Sweet and Sour Sauce holy heck it's like someone dumped so much sugar into the mixture and said screw it since it's already made. The Chicken unbelievably soggy and the batter they dipped it in just wasn't pleasing. I asked for No Onion on my Pork Fried Rice got home I'm not shocked Onions in it I'm glad they were not diced so I picked them out, but surprisingly it wasn't bad. We will Never Order from here again. read more

This is my go to spot in Torrington. The crab Rangoon and eggrolls are so delicious. Their pork fried rice is a little plain. The service is fast and the staff is super nice. Love this place read more

Delicious if a little greasy. Hope to keep supporting them since some of the other businesses in that plaza are gone.

This place is efficient and overall good food. Most places in the area are pure sugar bombs while I find this to be overall best in area. Prompt service, they didn't beg me for cash and very speedy service. Typical wan up to go location with only a few tables inside read more

I've ordered from Moon Star in Torrington a couple of times now. 1st time, I had the lunch special General Tso's chicken. I liked the sauce used on the chicken, was very flavorful, and the spice level was perfect. Breading on the chicken was good too, but for some strange reason, they mixed onions & peppers rather than broccoli. I don't mind a chef putting his own flair on a dish, but honestly, I didn't find this change agreeable. 2nd time I ordered from Moon Star, I had the boneless spare ribs / Sweet & Sour chicken combo. Meats were alright, problem was there just wasn't enough meat. Serving was about 3/4 white rice, it wasn't that way when I had ordered the General Tso's chicken on my previous visit. All in all, it seems Moon Star serves pretty standard Chinese take-out. Not sure if I'll give them another chance because there are so many other options for similar food in the area. read more

Be forewarned! Their prices must have gone up or something. I ordered based off of menus found online (granted, these may be old menus.) My combo meal + app., w/tax, should've come out to $15.46. I handed her a $20 & she only gave me back $1. So, I either just got hustled, or their prices have increased. I wish I didn't order the crab rangoon now. It was simultaneously greasy, strangely chewy, rather than crispy, & a bit on the stale side. This seems odd; bc my egg roll was very crispy and delectable. Moo Goo Gai Pan & pork fried rice were avg. Americanized Chinese hole in the wall. Not much pork in the rice though. Wasn't given any utensils nor soy sauce in my bag. Prompt service-done in 10-15 min. They even called me to let me know my order was ready, which was helpful. Update- changed my rating from 3-1 stars. Perhaps the extra charge was for a delicious Salmonella sauce? Up all night w/hot/cold sweats & diarrhea now. I should've listened to my gut (pun intended) when I was suspicious of this food before eating! read more

I wanted wonton soup so I stopped here and I'm not disappointed the soup was hot and full of flavor the wonton noodles were tender and delicious. I also got a order of crab Rangoons they were cooked to perfection not burnt or dry. Definitely my go to chinese place from now on 10/10 definitely recommend!!! read more

The best Chinese in Torrington by far! I lived in NYC within walking distance of Chinatown and Moon Star is the closest in quality to what I got there! And you get a pretty good bang for your buck even post covid! read more

The food is always hot and delicious. I've never had a problem with an inaccurate order and the people that work at Moon Star are always friendly. read more

Ian is quite obviously nuts. So what if the rice is bright yellow, to me, fried rice isn't fried rice if it's got that dingy sort of yellow hue. Pretty much hands down THE BEST place for Chinese food in Torrington. I used to like the place in the plaza with 99, but after my dad got a nasty case of food poisoning there, I haven't been back. The combos are ridiculous, you can eat like 3 times off one of them. I can never get past the sesame chicken. BTW cash or check only, no cards - although there is a bank with an ATM practically next door if you don't have any cash on you. read more

The food is so good and the portions are large. I've only gone for take out two times.. First time was great, second time was two days ago. I ordered for four people. We had ordered 2 orders of General Tso Chicken entrees, orange chicken entree, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, fried dumplings, steamed dumplings, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon. The reason why I am rating this place a 3 star is because everyone in the house got sick after eating it and I was discharged from the hospital yesterday from having food poisoning and I'm 26 weeks pregnant.. It's a shame because the food is yummy but unfortunately, we will not be returning. read more

This has to be the BEST pork egg fu yung that I have ever had!!! The steamed dumplings are great too! AND their shrimp egg rolls are packed full of shrimp!! It is my "go to" place for Chinese food!! Ut oh....now I have to call them for a delicious Mother's Day meal!!! read more

I don't even want to leave a star. They don't deserve a star!!!! I call and order a large chicken finger, large pork lo Mein, a crab Rangoon and a boneless ribs combo. I get home about 30 minutes later and it's not the combo, it's a large order of the ribs. I call them and she says "no you didn't say combo" and I replied with yes I sure did. Then she says "what do you want me to do to fix it?" I said make me the combo and I'll bring you the mistake back. I walk in, and on the counter is a container with my rice...she opens the mistake ribs and takes out a scoop and puts it in the container and staples it up in the bag...I said "you really couldn't make me a fresh order????? " never ever ever ever EVER again!!! Not to mention the food sucks lately. And the women who takes the orders and rings you out is always rude. Tonight just topped it all. So damn annoyed!!!! read more

I went here once because I was starving and I couldn't wait for my mom to make food for me. I ordered an egg roll and hot and sour soup. The egg roll was leaking oil and so dumped it out. I had to wait for my mom to come home and make me food. I just couldn't enjoy their food. wah :( read more

This isn't the best Chinese I've had, but it's the best in Torrington. The general tso's is awesome and the egg drop soup - YUM! I'm not really a huge fan of their sweet and sour sauce. I'm pretty sensitive to MSG and haven't had an issue here, just in case anyone is wondering. read more

Easily the best Chinese food in Torrington, the best selection of available. only caveat is they prefer cash to cards (using a card adds a surcharge) read more

Food is good when it's good which is more often to be honest , but not very consistent. Biggest issue though is lack of credit card acceptance. They have a machine and at times will take it but will gilt trip you. Last time they refused so -- i refuse to go anymore read more

Don't let them fool you!!!! THEY TAKE CARDS AS PAYMENT but they don't want to. I payed with a card the first time I ate here. Today they kept pushing for cash or check so I left. Merchants who want a consumer's money need not tell consumers how to spend it for the merchant's own convenience... Terrible customer service! read more

We have eaten here for years and the food is decent but the staff is so rude about the use of credit cards I will never go back.

Typical chinese takeout. Never an issue with food quality or anything, just the fact that you have to remember to go get cash first to avoid having to bargain them into taking a card. If they'd change that policy they'd probably get 4 stars. read more

It used to be better years ago. Last year I had two lousy hunan chickens in a row (chicken was rubbery/rawish). It's a shame. They're very nice people, the prices are great, and the service is quick (too quick - cook the chicken more!!). I'll try them next again maybe. read more

Decent food, would give them higher marks if they would add a little variety to their menu; they have the same menu as any other Chinese take out place in existence and they really only do a lackluster job of preparing the food. Would have given them 3 stars but they do not accept credit. read more

The ONLY place to get Chinese in Torrington--better quality, taste than the other options. Prices are decent. They claim to be cash only, but if you are stuck, they will take credit cards--with a lot of pushing. read more

Will never eat here again. I ordered their shrimp with snow peas, expecting to get shrimp, snow peas, and some brown sauce covering it. That's what I get when I order the same thing, at virtually EVER OTHER Chinese joint I've ordered it at. Instead, I got a take-out box with some snow peas, TWO SHRIMP (that's it -- two) and nothing else. I could have gone to Stop & Shop across the parking lot and gotten snow peas for cheaper. No thanks. read more

Sorry Moon Star fans, but this is hands down tied for the worst Chinese I've ever had. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken. By that I mean Kung Pao chicken fat, there was almost no meat. Each piece was a shriveled up fatty blob with maybe 20% meat in it. Portion size was ok, flavor was ok, although it had that chicken fat tone to it. The fried rice was low on any ingredient other than rice. My wife had chicken broccoli, which was tastless and also very fatty. We will not be back. read more

Excellent take out. No questions asked when I used a credit card. Great food!

Well worth the money.they give you a lot of food for your money, and the food taste great, very flavorful.

The best Chinese food in Torrington. While it is often busy, the food is made quickly and well. The portions are big and the prices are VERY cheap. My family is friends with the Owner's family and I can tell you they take pride in owning a clean and efficient restaurant! My favorite is the golden fingers and fried rice combo, with an egg roll. Also try their chicken and rice soup on a cold winter's day to warm up! Sadly no delivery, and no cars, only cash, but it is worth it! read more

Food is good. Bring cash or get scolded like a child if they have to run you're card. Too expensive to use machine. Was told last time to go to atm and come back with cash. Needless to say I didn't return. read more

The best Chinese take-out food in the Torrington area (you can eat in also, but not much for ambiance). Consistently good. Fast. Reasonably priced. Soups are very good. read more

Typical menu. Never had an issue with the food. People are nice enough as long as you don't use plastic

Worst place ever. Food tastes like its old with an odd aftertaste, especially the dumplings. Awful service, instead of telling me politely that they didn't take credit cards, the girl rudely barked that next time to bring cash instead of my card and thrusted my food that was leaking ALL OVER THE BAG at me. So unprofessional and absolutely disappointing. Don't waste your time at this place, seriously. Not worth it at all read more

The food here is good, I just wish I got to taste it. Showed up before the restaurants hours were over and the door was locked....

i LOVE this chinese place. it looks like a dive inside, but the food is FANTASTIC and the service is super fast. i've been living in the Boston area for years now, but have family in the Litchfield area, and EVERY time we go home to visit (a few times a year) we make a concerted effort to get out to Moon Star to have a meal or two...it's that good. i have NOT found any chinese place in all of the Boston area that's even remotely as good...but that's probably a good thing because if Moon Star existed in the Boston area, that's all i'd ever eat, every day, and i'd probably gain a ton of weight! in summary, DELICIOUS. read more

Best Chinese food I've found in ct. I've been coming here for probably 10 years or more even if I'm not living in the state I will stop in on a visit. The family that owns moon star is wonderful very friendly. I have never had a complaint. read more
