If I could do zero it would be zero! I should of had my red flag warning up when they said the food be ready about 5 to 10 minutes. Let's start with the Beef and Broccoli and Crab Rangoon before I can even snap a picture my boyfriend stormed off cussing and tossing it into the trash, he said it was covered in oil and it tasted off the crab Rangoon was soggy and chewy. I honestly never seen him so mad he has never thrown out food before he just shrugs and says never again. Now for mine I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken Combo meal the Sweet and Sour Sauce holy heck it's like someone dumped so much sugar into the mixture and said screw it since it's already made. The Chicken unbelievably soggy and the batter they dipped it in just wasn't pleasing. I asked for No Onion on my Pork Fried Rice got home I'm not shocked Onions in it I'm glad they were not diced so I picked them out, but surprisingly it wasn't bad. I've ordered from Moon Star in Torrington a couple of times now. 1st time, I had the lunch special General Tso's chicken. I liked the sauce used on the chicken, was very flavorful, and the spice level was perfect. Breading on the chicken was good too, but for some strange reason, they mixed onions & peppers rather than broccoli. I don't mind a chef putting his own flair on a dish, but honestly, I didn't find this change agreeable. 2nd time I ordered from Moon Star, I had the boneless spare ribs / Sweet & Sour chicken combo. Meats were alright, problem was there just wasn't enough meat. Serving was about 3/4 white rice, it wasn't that way when I had ordered the General Tso's chicken on my previous visit. All in all, it seems Moon Star serves pretty standard Chinese take-out. Not sure if I'll give them another chance because there are so many other options for similar food in the area. read more

Be forewarned! Their prices must have gone up or something. I ordered based off of menus found online (granted, these may be old menus.) My combo meal + app., w/tax, should've come out to $15.46. I handed her a $20 & she only gave me back $1. So, I either just got hustled, or their prices have increased. I wish I didn't order the crab rangoon now. It was simultaneously greasy, strangely chewy, rather than crispy, & a bit on the stale side. This seems odd; bc my egg roll was very crispy and delectable. Moo Goo Gai Pan & pork fried rice were avg. Americanized Chinese hole in the wall. Not much pork in the rice though. Wasn't given any utensils nor soy sauce in my bag. I wanted wonton soup so I stopped here and I'm not disappointed the soup was hot and full of flavor the wonton noodles were tender and delicious. Ian is quite obviously nuts. So what if the rice is bright yellow, to me, fried rice isn't fried rice if it's got that dingy sort of yellow hue. Pretty much hands down THE BEST place for Chinese food in Torrington. I used to like the place in the plaza with 99, but after my dad got a nasty case of food poisoning there, I haven't been back. The food is so good and the portions are large. I've only gone for take out two times.. First time was great, second time was two days ago. I ordered for four people. We had ordered 2 orders of General Tso Chicken entrees, orange chicken entree, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, fried dumplings, steamed dumplings, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon. I get home about 30 minutes later and it's not the combo, it's a large order of the ribs. I call them and she says "no you didn't say combo" and I replied with yes I sure did. Then she says "what do you want me to do to fix it?" I said make me the combo and I'll bring you the mistake back. I walk in, and on the counter is a container with my rice...she opens the mistake ribs and takes out a scoop and puts it in the container and staples it up in the bag...I said "you really couldn't make me a fresh order????? Sorry Moon Star fans, but this is hands down tied for the worst Chinese I've ever had. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken. By that I mean Kung Pao chicken fat, there was almost no meat. Each piece was a shriveled up fatty blob with maybe 20% meat in it. Portion size was ok, flavor was ok, although it had that chicken fat tone to it. i LOVE this chinese place. it looks like a dive inside, but the food is FANTASTIC and the service is super fast. i've been living in the Boston area for years now, but have family in the Litchfield area, and EVERY time we go home to visit (a few times a year) we make a concerted effort to get out to Moon Star to have a meal or two...it's that good. i have NOT found any chinese place in all of the Boston area that's even remotely as good...but that's probably a good thing because if Moon Star existed in the Boston area, that's all i'd ever eat, every day, and i'd probably gain a ton of weight! in summary, DELICIOUS. read more
