The chicken had the consistency of rubber, and had a weird, reddish hue to the meat (see my pic). It was several months before I dropped back in for my 2nd visit, that time, I tried their General Tso's chicken. The flavor for the General Tso's was off, compared to other Chinese takeout places I've had that dish at before, it was just not appealing at all. Needless to say, I can't imagine a third visit to Ocean Garden in Winsted, CT.

Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites

They did seem to do quite a bit of takeout. It's located in a little strip mall right off route 8 in Torrington so it's super easy to access! The food was so good! We split crab rangoons and scallion pancakes and they were so fresh and didn't have that greasy/oily after taste that a lot of places have. Our waitress was so kind and explained one of the dishes to me and actually showed me how to use chopsticks as I wasn't quite grasping it from reading the instructions on the wrapper. They also were super nice chopsticks and not the cheap wooden ones that sometimes splinter! For our entrees my boyfriend had three different sushi rolls, the Godzilla the, the mermaid and the volcano and said they were all really good! They also were huge so we ended up taking half of it home. I had the Chicken Yaki Udon which is basically stir fried udon noodles with chicken and veggies in a sweet soy type sauce. Our waitress asked if we wanted ice cream at the end and it was the perfect way to end the meal! Everyone was so kind and the food was so good that we will definitely be back!!

There really is no atmosphere - walk in, pick up, not the most organized to cleanest of places to wait, but you're getting take out. So it's charming. Good people, good food, so why only three stars? Every time I go the entree portions get smaller and smaller as the prices go up and up. Ownership was touting their "new menu" today and urged me to take one. There was one new item... "bourbon chicken..." haha. Yea, a real authentic classic (shopping mall style). It was a beard for "all prices gone up and need a new menu." The food is good. Some items are even excellent. I would pay for it HAPPILY if I thought I was getting a value. Remember when lo mein would seem full in that to-go box for days? Well t house days are gone and the charming white box is now a 1/2 in high plastic tray. 1/2 the portion 70% more money. Must be new math. I'll go again, as the food is good. But $100 for Chinese take out for 4 when you're still hungry after is not an amazing feeling. Tips: Pork dumplings - terrific and good value Crab Rangoon - delicious but in the thin/small side House Special Lo mien - phenomenal - need double the portion for the price. Beef and broccoli - fresh and delicious - same portion as above.

Ordering was easy, just a simple call; pickup was also quick and easy. The parking lot was spacious and so was the restaurant. I saw people dining in there. There was a fish tank and the person that helped me was friendly. Prices and portions were comparable to other Chinese spots. I ordered the orange chicken combo with fried rice, crab rangoons, plain lo mein for my toddlers, and my husband had the general tso combo. The crab rangoons were A+++ definitely up there with the best I've had; thin fried wonton wrapper and a larger amount of creamy, cheesey, imitation crab filling. The orange chicken was good, I'd say 4/5; not the best I've had but it did the job. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we would order there again.

There is a large spread of meat and veggie options for everyone, and they serve slightly different items during their dinner hours. Price right now after tax for lunch hours (until 3pm) is $13.90, which for an all you can eat place is absolutely insane. I encourage everyone to try a little piece of each option you want, because you can always go back for more at any time! There's a cold octopus dish that is my personal favorite and if I could ever learn the recipe I'd eat it non stop, but genuinely, this is a nice chill place with average to really good food quality, and there's so many things to pick from that no one will be left without options.
