When you walk into YiaYia's, you are transported Straight to Santorini. The decor is beautiful and provides fantastic ambiance when dining. The service was great, offering suggestions and setting expectations that the kitchen is small and it may take a bit longer for food to come out. The Tirokafteri dip with pita was probably my favorite. Greek yogurt, feta and pepper with a little bit of heat blender to perfection. The Beet salad has a lovely fresh dressing that compliments the salad well. We felt the Chicken kalamaki was a bit dry and lacked flavor, however, we have every intention of returning and trying more so therefore, I couldn't see giving less than a 4.5.

Was in the area for work one evening and decided to give this place a try since I love Mediterranean food. The place is quite cute and cosy, definitely gives off Greek island vibes. I recommend anyone craving fresh Greek food to give this place a try.

    Dip platter - so good!

Had a nice lunch at YiaYia's. There are no reservations and we got there at 1:15 pm on a Saturday and did not have a wait for a table although it was quite busy. Service was very good. We shared the Dip Platter - you choose three dips and we had the Kalamata spread, Hummus, and Tirokafteri (whipped feta, spicy peppers, dill, greek yogurt). So good and the warm pitas were addictive. I tried the Mythos Lager, which was okay. My sister had the Fix Helles Lager, which was pretty good. If I am in the area I will definitely be back!

I had lunch at 1pm on a Friday. We were promptly seated, as there was only one other table being served, but eventually the place started to fill up. Food: We ordered the Athenian shrimp for an appetizer. It was good, had a lot of sauce and a little spicy. We liked it. Might need to ask for more pita bread for the sauce. We had the pork souvlaki and lamb gyro for our mains. I had mine served with Greek fries. I really liked my gyro, my dad thought the pork was just okay. The portions were huge! I barely touched my fries and brought them home. We thought that the menu was a little limited because we normally order the lemon chicken soup and mousakka when we visit other restaurants. Ambiance: When you step inside, you're transported to Santorini. Stone floors, white walls, Greek music playing... I've been to Greece and it really felt like I was there. The restaurant is in a kind of strip mall. The parking lot is a little awkward because there seem to be some apartments in the back? There wasn't as much parking, either. Overall, I enjoyed eating here. It's almost one hour away, so I probably wouldn't come often, but recommend it if you're in the area.

Amazing! No wait at all to sit and service was wonderful. Falafel on pita with fries was delicious.

My friends as I stopped by here for lunch as we were in the area during a little fall leaf peeping adventure. We were looking for a place nearby as we weren't familiar with the area and decided to stop by here because of all the great reviews! The ambiance here makes you feel like you're far far away from Torrington. The floral decor, the furniture, stone floors -- no details were spared here. This place is just so stunning! The kind waitress explained that the restaurant menu was developed to make you feel like you were at an authentic Greek taverna with lots of small dishes to snack on and enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner. We opted for the whipped feta dip to share and it was divine. The pita was so pillowy soft and the best I've ever had. I ordered a chicken souvlaki for my meal and opted for the lemon potatoes. The lemon potatoes were my absolute favorite and I would get them again and again! Definitely stop by here if you're in the area - another great place on Yelp's top places to eat in CT!

I've known for a while that Yia Yia's in Torrington would be my new favorite CT Greek restaurant as soon as I could make the almost one hour drive there. Even before it was Number 6 on the 2022 CT Yelp Top 25 Places to Eat List. Sometimes, you can just tell by the pictures people post, and how people describe their experience. I ordered Spanakopita, the Lamb Gyro platter and Baklava, and had PLENTY of leftovers. Yia Yia's did so many things at a high level. The feta on the Greek fries was flavorful and tender. The lamb for the gyro platter was a couple steps up. The spanakopita had perfect texture and taste. The density, garlic flavor and acidity of the tzatziki were right on. The tomatoes were peak ripe. The baklava was delicious and warm. Everything was terrific. In addition, service was friendly, efficient and helpful. And with its light colors and pillows, the inside was inviting. I've been to several of the CT Yelp Top 25 places this year. Even among such high performers, Yia Yia's is one of my favorites. Five Stars

Looking for an authentic Greek hideaway cafe - then walk through the door. You are immediately transported to the Greek isles. Staff is friendly and attentive, restaurant is clean and organized. We decided to do a tapas still evening. Starting with a three dip platter of hummus, tzatziki, and tirokafteri (whipped feta with spicy peppers, dill, and Greek yogurt) Delicious!! The tzatziki and tirokafteri were OMG amazing. Definitely these were made by scratch that day. Ordered a second order of tirokafteri to take home. Then came the shrimp saganaki and Loukaniko - wasn't sure what to expect here. Shrimp dish was good, slightly over cooked and brought more of an Italian vibe but good. The Loukaniko is a homemade sausage with feta and tzatziki. The sausage by itself was missing some flavors but when eaten with the feta and tzatziki the dish was well balanced. Lastly we ordered the chicken kalamaki - aka chicken skewers. While the meat was cooked well, a very nice char, there was not any flavor and the skewers were very small. This was disappointing. The real disappointment here was the amount of food for the pricing. This would be a four star review if not for the pricing. This is everything we ordered then add a dessert for $9 and our check came to over $80. The highlights for this restaurant are the authenticity of the food and the dips, the downfalls (at least for this visit) were the proteins and pricing.

The food was amazing. Best imported feta cheese I have ever had, and you pay for it. The lamb gyros were perfect. Fries were delicious. They charge $2 extra for the feta and oregano, but they make the fries so much better. Feta in general is a premium addon, but they should name the restaurant Feta. They take it to the next level. The service was prompt and perfect. A truly outstanding meal, but pricey, too pricey for my budget. I won't be back unless I get a windfall, but I'm very glad I went. Everything about the experience was great. But I'm retired. I can't do a $30 meal (with tip). If you have the money, I can't think of a better place to spend it. The world has gone crazy when McDonalds has a $12 hamburger. The ambience was like a little cottage. Immaculately clean, but nothing fancy. They clearly care about every aspect of the business. I'm not implying that they are price gouging. They deliver value. My budget is the problem. "Sorry. It's not you, it's me."

    Daniel D.

Simply Authentic dishes. We tried as many as possible. We looked like we haven't eaten in a day or two. All sizes are plentiful and the taste was incredible. We travelled almost an hour and I will do it again. The Tomato sauce for the calamari could've been better selected. The bougatsa looked and smelled amazing. It was slightly dry, but it may have been a fluke. The rest of the meal was very enjoyable. The atmosphere is fantastic as well. Come and taste this small treasure. You won't be disappointed.

Food was delicious, made to order, and came to the table super hot! Inside seating was a small space but very clean and comfortable. Server had great recommendations and explanations for the menu. Would recommend!

SERVICE: Service is exceptional... Chef Noujaim is very active in all aspects of the restaurant, yet takes time to personally connect with customers. There is such a welcoming feeling when visiting Noujaim's Bistro -- one that is uncommonly experienced in Connecticut. FOOD: I haven't been able to match the Lebanese food I've had at Alladin Restaurant in Allentown, where there is a large Lebanese community. After decades I've finally found a match during my first visit to Noujaim's Bistro. I chose dishes to best compare my U.S.-based benchmark-- Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Fattoush, Turkish coffee and Halvah. Portions were generous, inviting sharing. The Fattoush was far better than my benchmark in both presentation and preparation. Likewise the Halvah, which was served with candied orange. This dessert paired perfectly with the intense coffee. So good, I was eager to return the next day. Given it is an hour long drive from home, my solution will be to order additional dishes to take home! TIPS: The restaurant is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The lamb shank was absurdly tender, the baba ganoush was smoky and rich, and yes, the ezme, beets, and pita remain mandatory ordering. But what really sets this place apart is the heart behind it. On a hard night for our family, a simple unexpected dessert brought genuine comfort and a smile when we needed it most. They don't just feed your stomach here. They feed your soul. I would go to war for this restaurant. An absolute gem, genuinely some of the best food I've had in the area!! I don't write glowing reviews lightly, but this place absolutely earned one. From the moment the food hit the table, it was obvious this was something special. Every single thing we ordered, from the mezze sampler to the drinks to dessert, felt like the best version of itself it could possibly be. Not one weak note. Even the pita bread was memorable. Warm, soft, fresh, lightly charred, and worthy of praise in a meal FULL of standout dishes. The mezze sampler was EXTRAORDINARY. The beet and goat cheese was one of those bites that makes you stop mid-conversation. The goat cheese was fresh, creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced by roasted beets that were unbelievably sweet and luscious. Honestly, they were almost candy-like. I don't know what they did to prepare them, but they were incredible. The spicy vegetable dip, Esme, was bright, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. Fresh, zippy, and balanced with just enough heat. The eggplant dip was equally impressive, with a silky texture, subtle tartness, mellow tomato notes, and that gentle pleasant bitterness that makes eggplant so satisfying when it's done well. The hummus was ridiculously creamy and rich with tahini, giving it a deep nutty flavor that made it one of the best hummus dishes I've personally had. We also ordered the Turkish manti, and they were fantastic. Little handmade parcels topped with cool yogurt and warm spiced oil that brought everything together beautifully. We didn't even manage to take a picture because by that point we were so completely absorbed in the meal that all manners disappeared and we just devoured them immediately. No photo. No pause. Just instinct. That might be the strongest endorsement I can give. The mint lemonade was perfect for a warm day. Bright, refreshing, tart, cooling, and mint-forward without being overly sweet. It tasted clean, balanced, and incredibly refreshing. Dessert completely sealed the deal. The Turkish revani was unbelievably soft, soaked through with milk, and had that luscious almost tres leches quality that makes every bite melt away. The fresh berries and raspberry sauce gave it just enough brightness and acidity to balance the sweetness beautifully. I had a cup of black tea with it, and the combination of cake, berries, and tea was one of those simple little moments that feels kind of magical. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Tasteful decor, warm atmosphere, and thoughtful design that feels welcoming without trying too hard. The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine. More than anything, the whole place feels like a labor of love. What blows my mind most is that this restaurant has apparently been here for over two years, and we somehow only just discovered it. We were legitimately mad at ourselves thinking about how many meals we could have had here already. Now we're just trying to make up for lost time!! For roughly $80 for two before tip, the value was outstanding. At first glance, the menu might look a little upscale, but once the food arrives, it makes perfect sense. The quality more than justifies the price. I've had good Mediterranean food before. This is operating on a completely different level. Without question, this is some of the best Mediterranean food I've had anywhere in the area, and I can't wait to go back.

All the meats were tasty, seasoned well and weren't dry. For dessert, I tried the affogato, espresso over ice cream and that hit the spot. Overall, we were impressed. Unless it's an off peak time on a weekday, that's usually a potential cause for concern for me. Instead of going with the tacos or the enchiladas, which looked like they had been sitting around contemplating life for a while, I just kind of made a bit of a salad with ingredients. It was fine enough, not something I would personally spend money on. The best way I could describe the food would be hangover food.
