Bread was/seemed like it was a day old at 3 pm; dry and hard when served for dinner. Too late to go back. Maybe they have to keep the bread/rolls in a way to maintain freshness. Late Sunday night they cancelled the order I was picking up Monday morning. Offered a refund and no other recourse. They decided to change the hours of their bakers so I was Out of luck. My go to Italian bakery when I am in the Levittown area. This place used to be great and 5 stars worthy, but not so much lately. Loved their rainbow cookies, cannolis, black & white cookies. But the main reason my family and I go to Dortoni's Bakery is for their custom-made cakes. We had a birthday cake made for my daughter's 4th birthday with an Olivia the Pig theme and an amazing pic of Olivia on the cake. It not only looked awesome but was the best cake I've ever eaten. So, desperate and severely under-caffeinated, I stumbled in here. Please, your online menu says you make a white mocha? No. Just a regular mocha? No, but I can make a latte. Great! Can you just add a little chocolate to it? No. We don't have that. OK, a latte and a white chocolate cookie? No. We don't have that. What's this? That's a berry cookie with white chocolate on the end. And this? That's a caramel cookie. What's on it? White chocolate. Great, one of each. I've been coming here for years for the truly amazing selection of desserts, particularly cakes, all of which are delicious. We've also had them make several large cakes over the years for various life events, most recently for my wedding! The entire process from tasting to customization to delivery was easy and Angie 100% heard all of our design needs and feedback and nailed it. The cake tasted just as good as it looked and the customer service was above and beyond. Would absolutely recommend getting every day desserts here and more speciality cakes. They do a fantastic job. The Italian bread was under cooked like white bread and the cookies were mushy/chewy without taste, except for the rainbow cookies, they were ok. Totally disappointed, I recently went for a custom cake for 30 people. I asked for two tiers, one of the tiers to be a cake they had for sale for 27ish dollars and a bottom basic round cake. The cake was not that detailed. They quoted us 595 dollars. Almost 600 dollars for a cake for 30 people, my jaw dropped. I drove to Francesco's in Hicksville, the baker came out to meet us - went over all the options. It was the world of difference. It cost $200. He broke down the cost of the entire cake. Will not be returning, I'll drive 10 minutes more to save $400 dollars. read more

Since this bakery replaced the previous, there has been a steady decline in the bread.. What "passes" for rrye has neither the nexture nor flavor of rye but seems like a white bread to which a token amount of rye was added. The scattering of rye seeds as a "topping" disguises the truth but does not change it. Bad bread. The "pumpernickel" is also far from the real thing. It is hard, dense, and again utterly without flavor. The cakes, though decorated prettily, are too sweet by far This is no longer a good bakery. read more

Went to go visit some friends this afternoon, decided to bring something from Dortoni, I have had to cakes, and pastries, from other Dortoni's, but I have never stepped foot inside one, looking at their pastry cases, everything looked so fresh and delicious, I could not make up my mind, so I ordered 18 cannolis, and like any good bakery, they filled them up fresh, I believe they use ricotta cheese and had bits of chocolate chips, totally fresh, totally incredible, and the shells must have been made minutes earlier, when they put them together, and I drove the half-hour, to my destination, within five minutes of walking in all the cannolis were eaten, everyone could not believe how incredibly delicious they were, how crunchy the shell was, incredible. I have eaten pastries, cannolis, cakes and treats, all over Long Island and the five boroughs, and today's experience was a joy for the senses. read more

Ordered a 8" gluten free strawberry shortcake to bring to a birthday celebration. They brought the cake out in a tall cardboard box with tape all over it. I asked for another box because first of all I would not fit that box in my refrigerator and secondly after paying $50 for the cake the presentation looked awful. After complaining the baker , manager,Not sure who the woman was came out from the back with a box cutter cut the box down folded over sides and added more tape. Her comment was that's the best we can do and turned her back and walked away. Are you kidding? a $50 bakery cake should be placed in a bakery box. Not a recycled Amazon box. We have been searching for a truly outstanding bakery and have found it in Dortoni. Most recently we purchased a Challah bread to bring to a friend's that was the biggest, fluffiest and best tasting I've ever had - it was a big hit. likewise, the rugalach was outstanding and a real crowd pleaser. Our everyday items are now the cinnamon loaf and Italian pastries which are the best around. We are very happy to have them in the neighborhood, even if it means a little extra time at the gym. I spoke with numerous people, informing them of my price limit, and kept receiving the quote of $495. I called another Dortoni location (Commack) and got the exact cake for $85. My theme was blue toile (blue floral) and she took my tablecloth and matched it exactly!! The cake was chocolate with caramel buttercream!! NVM the awesome pastries, breads, cakes, pies, and cookies. You can trust that every single bite of anything from this bakery will be delicious, all the time. More importantly, the folks who run this place are heaven-sent. I haven't been here in about ten years as my travels don't bring me in the bakery's direction, but Angela remembered me and my family as soon as I walked in today. I needed to select pastries for health care workers as a gesture of appreciation. Angela, with incredible empathy and thoughtfulness, packaged up wonderful sweets for the hospital staff, all the while keeping me emotionally calm and being willing to listen while she put together a few packages for me. So...delicious, fresh baked goods are a given; but more importantly, the staff is so kind, engaged, generous, and thoughtful and able to sense what is needed at that moment. Went in there today to build a birthday cake for my daughter . A young lady who was clearly new was at the counter . I started to explain what kind of cake I wanted , the young lady had to ask for help from someone one who was sitting down behind the counter , so I hear this voice barking back at her " every layer of the cake is an additional $37" , I said excuse me what ? We didn't even get to the part where I tell them what size cake I want . She says all the prices are up everywhere. Yea, I'm super aware of that fact. So again she barks back every layer is 37$. I said are you the one who's going to be baking this cake , why don't you get up and talk to me? She yells at me that she is pregnant and can't get up . Ok , at that point I just had to walk out . What a total shame, I've been a customer at the Levittown location for many years , and never once had service like this . Also , I've been pregnant 3x and it never hindered my ability to get up. How do you work at the bakery then? I'm sure that job description includes get up to bake cakes and serve customers. Anyway , won't be coming back there again. Dortoni needs to have a a serious training session w their staff at this location. read more
