I wanted to try their sandwiches so I ordered a chicken caprese sandwich. It was so fresh and delicious, I highly recommend it. Aside from sandwiches, they have a large hot food section too. If I could give zero stars to this location, I would. I was very disappointed. I have ordered breakfast here before without any issues, until now. On Sunday morning, we were heading over to Glen Cove, so I called at 10:32 AM to place an order. A young girl picked up the phone. I ordered two sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches, an eggs Benedict platter, two egg and cheese sandwiches, and a cup of coffee. The young lady informed me that the coffee might get cold by the time I arrived, but I told her I had no problem with that since I was already on my way. She proceeded to repeat my order back to me and said, 'Thank you, we'll see you soon. Have a good day.' I thanked her and hung up. We arrived at St. Rocco's Bakery within 15 minutes. I waited in a long line, and as soon as a young man assisted me, I informed him that I was picking up a phone order for Veronica. He went to the kitchen and came back saying, 'They are working on your order right now.' I said perfect, and asked to add an extra coffee. He went to get the coffees and then checked back in the kitchen for my order. He came back out and asked, 'Are you sure you called the right location? There are no orders under Veronica being made.' I took out my phone and showed him the 10:32 AM call. I asked if it was their number, and he confirmed it was. I explained that I called, placed the order, and had it repeated back to me. He looked shocked. The chef then came out and asked another counter employee if she had taken the order. She didn't speak a word and just kept staring at the chef without acknowledging me. I got extremely aggravated by the situation, especially because no one apologized and no one offered to quickly make my breakfast. So, I just left. A triple threat: bakery, pastry shoppe and lunch counter with sandwiches and hot dishes. We tried all three offerings and they were excellent - from the breads we chose a large, round peasant loaf, olive bread, and my favorite, a round prosciutto bread with just enough piggy. For pastries, a crisp cannolo, subtle and flaky cheese pocket, and a sfogliatelle. And a light sandwich of prosciutto, mozzarella, and eggplant, accompanied by an arancino, also proved delicious. The right side is the bakery where they offer lots of cakes, pastries and cookies as well as fresh baked breads. We got the St. Joseph's pastry and mini cannolis. For the St. Joseph's pastry you have an option of big or small as well as either cannoli cream or custard filling. I loved how light the pastry was. The custard cream was very light as well and just the right amount of sweetness. The cannolis were also very good. They had chocolate chips in them and they were indeed one of the best we had. I live in CT and my late friend, Mike Petrella, used to bring me Italian and stuffed breads from St Rocco's. I could not wait to get into the bag, often eating some before I even got home. This is authentic crunchy Italian bread and the stuffed breads have just the right amount of ingredients, made the way my Grandmother used to make. Keep up the traditions. Been going to this bakery for years and love it. I order eggs occasionally... the first time they were not great. Did not follow my instructions. But I decided to try again. First off, they looked terrible and after one bite I knew something was off. They looked and tasted awful. Thank goodness I only had one bite and thew the rest out. I woke up with severe headache and stomach issue! Severe diarrhea!! Also... the staff seemed pretty miserable. The girl was extremely unfriendly and had a puss on her face the whole time. THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH for bread! I have been here in years and I am so happy I had the chance to return while I was in town. Their bread is by far the best bread I have ever had. There juniors bring back great memories for me....ate one with others as soon as I got back in the car! I also ordered a fantastic chocolate and raspberry mini cake.
