The nut / raspberry cake is the best! Seven layer is the only one I can find these days that is still creamy and delicious! Love it! My son was getting married at our family home in Glen Cove. My husband and I were the "wedding planners" and had a lot of responsibility. We were born and raised in GC but now live out of state. Cute little bakery in glencove , a bench outside to enjoy your coffee or a table with four chairs to enjoy coffee and breakfast . Good variety of crumb cakes , peach, plain, apple and more that I don't remember , apple Danish , apple turnover , iced French crullers , sugared twisted donuts and alot of really unique cookies , pies , lintzer tarts (did I spell that right ?) Coffee is serve yourself bar , nothing fancy , don't expect a Starbucks ! If you are like me and like cream and not milk I didn't see any cream on the counter , they only had milk out , personally I don't care cause dunkin donuts and Starbucks is 3 mins away . We ordered an italian bread , I am a total bread fanatic it's my weakness I will try a plain italian bread in any nice bakery and this one was SCRUMPTIOUS , we bought it in the morning and it's 3 pm and already gone , wish we bought 2 ! The apple turnover was very good as well , very unique crust , and not overbearingly sweet like alot of bakeries and tons of icing , yummy ! Also ordered a plain crumb cake that was very delightful and my daughter had some cookies that looked really good and I'm sure was delicious since she finished them all ! This unpretentious retail half of the bakery does not disappoint! Haven't been back since returning from the South. The day's selection of pastries--donuts, plain croissants, bagels, cheesecakes are yummy to look at and I don't think the Boston Creme donut I'm currently eating is going to make it past the drive home. Located near private Morgan Park, non-residents of the Locust Valley/Glen Cove hood can visit Garvies Point Museum and Preserve which is next door and then stop in this neighborhood bakery for self-serve coffee and pastries, and I will be back as they advertise they now serve sandwiches! One of the little gems if you're visiting this quiet, picturesque area of GC:) I love coming to the parks in summertime and Landing Bakery is located right up the road. I feel bad giving 2 stars (it really deserves 1) the place was old and that's fine, but it was filthy and the server thought she was doing me a favor by helping me. If you read my review of Swan Bakery you will understand that Landing is everything that swan is not. Except a hole in the wall. Even after a recent renovation Landing still succeeds at being a hole in the wall. So be it. I prefer the pastries emanating from this hole in the wall than from any other. Recently got a buddy that was not familiar with this place to go grab some treats for me and he was perplexed by the location and nature of the operation. The bakery is located in a residential nabe, no other stores around at all, and appears to be run from a basement no less. Cheese Danish are great, always moist and perfectly cheesed up. Turnovers fresh and lack the assembly line horror show sweetness of the typical crap paraded as a turnover these days. Around Easter they make frog cupcake things that I would kill puppies for. So disappointed. I was in town for a high school reunion and had so many fond childhood memories of their cheesecake because when it was a special occasion my father would go there to and get a cheesecake from them. The pastries are tasty but recently they've either changed ownership or I don't know because the very few times I've been there I've not seen the older woman who used to work the counter . In her place is a younger girl with an accent who seems to make up the prices ?? 2/3 times myself and fiancé were charged different prices and the pastries have become too expensive for what they are. Needed a cake for graduation. Ordered it by phone, never tried the bakery. Kevin was very helpful. Ordered a half sheet double layer, with chocolate mousse filling and whipped cream topping. Kevin even said he'd look online for a college logo. Result? TOTALLY AWESOME! The cake almost floated it was so light, the cake was delicious. The whipped cream was just perfect, not too sweet. The college logo could not have been better. All my guests raved. I've since then bragged bout Landing Bakery to everyone. They are now permanently in my contacts list. read more

I'll give you a little history to this truly European , with a authentic touch of Black Forrest , Germany . The proprietor , the Kern family started this bakery in his once upon a time living room . The patriarch , Henry along with his wife and two kids made working that bakery their lives and lively hood . This was 1950's and my discovery was about 1963.... As a 3yr old child . I lived just a few houses away .Much has changed in this city of Glen Cove . The little corner bakery has not , mainly the recipes HAVE NOT changed .... Of course some small building updates and things of the like but the current baker and owner has maintained that old school quality , that I only get "not often enough " .... We now live 50 miles away . I can spot "LB" products across the deli counter and far away . Yes with all the bakeries they have been the choice for most local deli's , luncheonette's and restaurants . How many bakeries put real honey in the honey bun icing ? Well when you see the color isn't white that's why . I could list many many similar things . How do I know , I worked for Mr Kern ( Henry ) when I was a kid , maybe 9-10 . Sweeping floors , washing dishes . Then stuffing jelly dough nuts and folding apple turnovers ... This was what put my last 40+ years in the kitchen . I've been head chef at Saks Fifth Ave, The Milleridge Inn, US Blues and many other top quality restaurants . When someone writes one star because someone didn't kiss his tucuss that's wrong . And immature on his part . I doubt that was the owner . Regardless you won't beat the price , unless your only concerned with price . If your more interested in true ingredients with no substitutes ..... Landing Bakery is the best . That's from a lifetime leader , chef , trainer and owner of some of the best, most expensive high end restaurants in the area , NYC included . I have no interest or investment in the business . Other than when I want the best ingredients , handled and applied properly ....... I drive the 100 miles round trip ..... And I love every mile .... Going home ! Honey buns , cinnamon twists , jelly dough's , French cruellers ( to die for) Italian bread , rolls , oh my ! I can make myself crazy .... I'm now going tomorrow ! Try the honey bun, similar to a coffee roll only better , than judge for yourself and ask yourself ..... Was that honey ? Was that the best cinnamon available , how fresh was that ? Before the son became the sole owner, I travelled from Bayville every Sunday morning because this bakery was famous for delicious breads. It was never a nice-looking, cheery place, not what one would expect a bakery to look like. Throughout the yrs I continued to go once in awhile because I found far better and immaculate places. To me Landing Bakery was always not presentable and when the kitchen door was open while I was there I could see the owner with his hair, uncombed, uncovered, like he just crawled out of bed, wearing a torn, green T shirt. I noticed powdered sugar and other ingredients he was using with his hands were in empty tin coffee cans. I had to walk out no matter how delicious his breads were. The place is filthy and I don't even want to think how filthy the kitchen is. Perhaps he changed things around, made the front more interesting, closed off the kitchen to public view, I wouldn't know as I will never return. He's too filthy for me and people like that can't change. Former employees have told me how filthy the place is. read more
