Having a need for about 60 decorated cupcakes for our daughter's 6 birthday at a local theme park, we stopped in to place our order well in advance of the special day. As Murphy would have it, weather was not our friend and we called 2 days in advance to reschedule the tasty treats. No problem at all! They were willing to postpone our order for the following weekend without us breaking a sweat. Once the birthday girl's big day arrived, we were surprised at how soft and moist and delicious each cupcake was. Literally the kind that melt in your mouth and then have you wanting a second helping. So I have passed by here a bunch of times and yesterday late afternoon I stopped by. They had a ton of flavors so I asked what they recommended and I was told they liked the red velvet so I got one of them and I was only planning on the one but I noticed they had a chocolate chip cheesecake cupcake and it looked amazing (it was a new flavor and they were giving them out for free) So sweet! I ate some of the red velvet last night and today and it was really really good. The icing was perfect and the cupcake had the perfect texture. I saw they have icebox cake cups too so I definitely want to try them. Service was excellent and the store is decorated so cute. Definitely recommend the delicious cupcakes here! read more

I stopped by here not realizing this was the cake store and not the cupcakes store which is in Huntington. It was my sisters bday and after rushing out of work I wanted to grab something quick. I arrived here at 4:10 pm which is pretty close to their closing time. I was immediately greeted by Kathy who was super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately I realized this was more of a place to order cakes and they didn't have an actual display of cupcakes. I mentioned that I just wanted some cupcakes but realized this place didn't have them. She said she would see what she can do for me. 2 minutes she offered me a few options. I agreed to it all 5 minutes later Kathy came out with the prettiest cupcakes. I'm was so grateful that she took the time to make them for me. The cupcakes are delicious and fresh and they are just soooo pretty! I would give the customer service here and A+++ and would definitely be coming back here for our regular came orders. I'm so happy to have found a decent cake/cupcake place around. :-) read more

A few short weeks ago, I had the idea to order a custom cake for my friend's retirement dinner. I dealt with the Cake Don only to purchase his (fabulous) cupcakes during the lockdown and beyond. He is my go-to for a quick treat or item to bring to a BBQ/gathering. This time, I called, spoke with them about my thoughts, and how I really didn't have an idea. Before I knew it, we decided on something with the scales of justice. I then Googled some images and found a stack of law books with the scales of justice atop. The dinner would be for 12 people, so they recommended a cake for 12-15 people. There were several options for the cake and filling, so I opted for chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. I gave them my credit card, they asked me what time I wanted to pick it up, and they gave guidance for keeping it cold before serving. On the day of pickup, they produced a box large enough to fit a microwave! They helped load it into the car and again reminded us of to keep it safe and fresh for the unveiling later on that evening. Every single person we dealt with was lovelier than the next. The restaurant we had the dinner at (the legendary King Umberto's!) took special care with the extremely large box and kept it safe until they presented it on a rolling cart to our table. Fellow diners are nearby tables were in awe of the cake. This cake look exactly like the photo I submitted with gold fasteners (edible) and binding on the book that look so real! The scales of justice sat prominently on top and the ribbon with "Happy Retirement" was perfect finish. The server told me he felt bad cutting it. Now for the flavor: the cake was moist and fresh. The ganache was among the best I have ever had. The icing was not overly sweet, and despite the coloring used for the exterior of the "book", none of us had discolored teeth after eating. The cake was easily at minimum a foot wide, and definitely about 6-7" high. Slices were generous and we still had plenty enough left over to take home. This cake was worth more than what I paid for it--I can only imagine the hours of labor to produce this work of art. Patronize the Cake Don, either for cupcakes at his Huntington store, or by ordering a cake for your next event. You will not be disappointed. And when an owner and his whole staff are lovely? Even better! read more

I ordered a cake for a big event. He charged be 2000 dollars for this big elegant high tower cake. It was like a wedding cake and the day of the event he gave me a BJS cake with stick figures he bought on Amazon that looks like 100 dollars. Do not go to this place. Flash advertisements. read more

We used to order cakes all the time from him in westbury. Now apparently we're not fancy enough. - He won't make a rainbow cake for my kid - asked for ballsz. he used to make them out of cake. Now they are made out of styrofoam wrapped in fondants. read more

Beautiful custom cake made for a surprise party I threw for my girlfriend. My girlfriend actually thought I got her a dior bag for a second. Nah just the cake baby! Everybody loved the cake as well! Honestly I don't even like cake (I do like frosting lol). Yes I am a weirdo. Anyway despite that, I do like my cakes to look awesome, and taste amazing for others. After looking at most places all over the island I finally checked out the cake don and he does absolutely amazing work. We first used him for our baby shower cake. My cousins still talk about that cake being one of the best ever. The taste and how adorable it was. We also used him for our son's first birthday party which again everyone loved. My one girl loved it so much she had to get his 4th of July cupcakes for our little party and my son literally lived his best life that day. Those cupcakes were my son's dream, cuteness overload as he had red/white and blue icing all over him lol. We at D&D CBD had The Cake Don make us some cupcakes to have at our event at the Twisted Cow in E.Northport. Our daughter had her 100th day celebration and we decided to go with Cake Don after reading the reviews on yelp. We called Don and setup an appointment with him. We sat down and showed him some pictures online of what we had in mind. He was receptive to our wishes and gave a few helpful suggestions too. We then chose the flavor of the cake; and that was pretty much it. We got the cake on our scheduled date and time. The cake came out as we had designed. Our family members were impressed and thought we had bought it at a Chinese bakery since the Chinese character, colors and design were authentic in appearance. In terms of taste, the cake is really delicious. It's not overly sweet and fairly light (excluding the fondant). We chose vanilla cake with strawberry filling which ends up as a mousse with pieces of macerated strawberries. It's easy to have more than one piece. We will definitely be going back to Cake Don in the future for our cake needs and recommend him to family and friends. We're glad we found someone in this area for our custom cake needs. read more

Let me first say when you're dealing with a theme-styled cake, details are everything (and of course flavor). I ordered this cake for my husband's 50th birthday party and being that this is my first husband's favorite movie of all time it just seemed appropriate. The details on the cake I received were very good and the cake itself tasted very good as well and overall my cake looked almost like the one posted on Pinterest (which, along with the great reviews, is what helped me decide to order from The Cake Don in the first place). I was just a little disappointed that 3 details were missing from the cake: 1) the cigar 2) the handkerchief and 3) blood from the horses head - but again, like I mentioned, the cake tasted very good and still the artistry was excellent and I would deal with them again, but I think next time I would make a concerted effort to take the trip out there (they're located in Long Island I live in New Jersey) before the date of an event to make sure to cross all my T's and dot all of my i's in person. I'm still a big believer in dealing with people in person.... For certain things a.k.a. special orders, as opposed to dealing with people by text or over the phone just because things like this can happen and I was a little worried Something like this would happen. With that said, again I would order from them again- they did a great job. read more

Just had my baby shower cake done by the cake don and he gave me exactly what we described to him! The consultation was easy and very comfortable, and included a tasting of all the cakes and flavors. Loved Cake Don's cupcakes! We picked up a dozen (and a few special ones for the kids), for my MIL's 90th birthday. It was so hard to choose, we wound up splitting them all so everyone could have a taste. Smores', Samoa, red velvet, mint chocolate chip, peanut butter, pumpkin spice, just to name a few. I don't even know where to start. Cake Don, you are amazing, you live up to your name and have now gained a forever customer. We went with a vanilla cake and chocolate mousse filling. The cake was ordered 1 week before my party and he made it work. I said I needed the cake for about 30 ppl and this cake fed alot more than that. People were coming back for 2nd and 3rds lol The taste and the smell of this cake, omggg I cannot even describe it. The artwork and detail that was put into this cake was phenomenal. This guy does AMAZING work. This place was not cheap, but it was worth every penny. Not only does Don and his staff do beautiful work, but they made the best tasting cake I have ever eaten. I will only order special occasion cakes from this guy. I can't recommend him enough. The Star Wars cake he created was awesome. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Don D.

Don Donneruno is a custom cake designer , but some have been known to call him a conceptual engineer. His Cakes have a look and attitude all their own. Don draws upon an ecletic sphere of influence such as Salvador Dali, Muhammed Ali, Evel Knievel, Jack Kirby, Tim Burton, Peter Criss, Pablo Picasso, Todd Mcfarlane, and an endless list of others. The primary creative force in his work are his experiences growing up in New York City. Taking the 7 train from Flushing Queens to Manhattan as a teenager was a crash course in pop culture, and he absorbed it all. His exposure to and participation in the graffiti movement of the early 80's laid the groundwork for the foundation of what would become his style. He now brings that energy and attitude to his cake designing and fabricating. To him every cake is like a great song. Some are "Back in Black" and some are "Purple Rain", depending on the mood that is trying to be achieved.

It tasted like pure unsalted butter and had almost no sweetness to it, so we ended up just eating the cake center and leaving the frosting. Unfortunate for an expensive cake but based on the other reviews I'm wondering if it was just a one time error. I don't think I would get another cake from there, but the rest of the baked goods and empanadas looked awesome so I will definitely be bake to try those!

We polished off the empanadas very quickly. I have to say that they were the best empanadas I've ever had. They are not even comparable to any other empanadas I've ever tried. I'm not an expert on this subject but I know awesomeness from mediocrity and these were awesome. Yes empanadas from a bakery get an A+++. The outside was light and flaky and the filling was very flavorful and juicy. As far as the cupcakes, also an A+++. Besides being beautiful with the decorations and edible glitter they were very delicious. I tasted a piece of the carrot cake one and the one with the Oreo on top, both were moist inside and had the perfect amount of frosting. I did not taste the vanilla or the funfetti one but my kids said that they were the best they've ever tried. We've had plenty of cupcakes from bakeries in our lifetime and most were looking pretty but fell flat in the flavor department. These exceeded expectations in both area. We live a few miles away which might be dangerous. We will definitely be back.

Usually you can tell by looking and that should've been my first sign that something was off. I just assumed that she was new and she was super sweet and apologetic so I forged on. I ordered an Italian cheesecake, cannoli, a single serve tiramisu, and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was soft and a little chewy and the quality of the chocolate was on point. When I opened the box that the cheesecake was in, it was filled with a viscous brown fluid that in my 5 minute drive home had actually accumulated enough to soak through the cardboard bakery box. I immediately knew that either there was too much butter in the crust, there was a water bath issue, meaning the crust was not properly sealed against the water bath or the water level was too high, OR, the cake was old and prolonged refrigeration was the culprit. I brought the cake right back and quietly showed the counter employee the issue...there were customers in the store and I was not looking to draw attention to this issue. The worker was appropriately apologetic and brought it to the back...and that's where everything quickly deteriorated. The owner came out accusing me of dropping the cake, which didn't happen and also had nothing to do with all the oozing brown goo, and then proceeded to insult and demean me in front of the other customers. He said I "obviously wasn't Italian" and therefore "didn't know anything about Italian cheesecakes." When I shared that I was actually born in Italy he quickly shifted to degrading the region my family and I are from. He then said "oh do you make cheesecake every day like we do because if you don't, you don't get to have an opinion." He went on and on while I just continued to request a refund for the defective item. To be fair and transparent, I would've probably overlooked the dripping crust if the cheesecake tasted amazing but it tasted like it had spent a few days too long in the fridge. These days spending close to $40 for a small cake is somewhat of a luxury. I appreciate all of the bakeries and home bakers who are persevering in this difficult economy and continuing to produce quality products. I absolutely understand that nothing is perfect and mistakes happen and when I'm at fault, I take responsibly and hold myself accountable. I do not yell, demean, and insult customers like this owner did. There are too many wonderful bakeries and home bakers that stand behind their goods and deserve your patronage and hard earned money. This establishment is NOT one of the them. As multiple other reviews have stated, it seems that when things are good they're good but when they are bad, this owner is rude and takes no accountability. I do wonder if he would've spoken to my husband in the same manner that he spoke to me but we'll never know because no one I know will ever step foot in this establishment again. Also, the cannoli shells were totally soggy on the bottom. A true Italian bakery would fill individually per order.

The Cake Don came in highly recommended by strangers on Facebook. Custom cakes are very much word of mouth business and people wouldn't recommend a business if they didn't love it. I could see why the recommendations are so positive and high. Ordered a cake over the phone (sent some photos for inspiration), and he delivered! Literally and figuratively. Beautiful and delicious cake. Everyone at my party kept asking me where the cake was from. He's also very pleasant to speak to. Prompt delivery. Just received two cakes. One for my daughters First communion and one for my dads 83rd birthday. They were absolutely delicious! Decorated perfectly. But most importantly we were so glad he is a peanut/ treenut free baker. Doesn't use them and does his best with screening his suppliers. My daughter was so happy to be able to have such an exquisitely decorated cake . He made her special day even more special.
