I stopped by here not realizing this was the cake store and not the cupcakes store which is in Huntington. It was my sisters bday and after rushing out of work I wanted to grab something quick. I arrived here at 4:10 pm which is pretty close to their closing time. I was immediately greeted by Kathy who was super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately I realized this was more of a place to order cakes and they didn't have an actual display of cupcakes. I mentioned that I just wanted some cupcakes but realized this place didn't have them. She said she would see what she can do for me. 2 minutes she offered me a few options. I agreed to it all 5 minutes later Kathy came out with the prettiest cupcakes. I'm was so grateful that she took the time to make them for me. The cupcakes are delicious and fresh and they are just soooo pretty! I would give the customer service here and A+++ and would definitely be coming back here for our regular came orders. I'm so happy to have found a decent cake/cupcake place around. :-)

Looks small, but the box is huge and it is deceiving!

A few short weeks ago, I had the idea to order a custom cake for my friend's retirement dinner. I dealt with the Cake Don only to purchase his (fabulous) cupcakes during the lockdown and beyond. He is my go-to for a quick treat or item to bring to a BBQ/gathering. This time, I called, spoke with them about my thoughts, and how I really didn't have an idea. Before I knew it, we decided on something with the scales of justice. I then Googled some images and found a stack of law books with the scales of justice atop. The dinner would be for 12 people, so they recommended a cake for 12-15 people. There were several options for the cake and filling, so I opted for chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. I gave them my credit card, they asked me what time I wanted to pick it up, and they gave guidance for keeping it cold before serving. On the day of pickup, they produced a box large enough to fit a microwave! They helped load it into the car and again reminded us of to keep it safe and fresh for the unveiling later on that evening. Every single person we dealt with was lovelier than the next. The restaurant we had the dinner at (the legendary King Umberto's!) took special care with the extremely large box and kept it safe until they presented it on a rolling cart to our table. Fellow diners are nearby tables were in awe of the cake. This cake look exactly like the photo I submitted with gold fasteners (edible) and binding on the book that look so real! The scales of justice sat prominently on top and the ribbon with "Happy Retirement" was perfect finish. The server told me he felt bad cutting it. Now for the flavor: the cake was moist and fresh. The ganache was among the best I have ever had. The icing was not overly sweet, and despite the coloring used for the exterior of the "book", none of us had discolored teeth after eating. The cake was easily at minimum a foot wide, and definitely about 6-7" high. Slices were generous and we still had plenty enough left over to take home. This cake was worth more than what I paid for it--I can only imagine the hours of labor to produce this work of art. Patronize the Cake Don, either for cupcakes at his Huntington store, or by ordering a cake for your next event. You will not be disappointed. And when an owner and his whole staff are lovely? Even better!

Thank you Cake Don for making my beautiful and delicious retirement cake in short notice. Someone other then me ordered it. It was delicious. None left to take home. Also the Cake Don Cupcakes in Huntington is amazing. Fresh and delicious!

Beautiful custom cake made for a surprise party I threw for my girlfriend. My girlfriend actually thought I got her a dior bag for a second. Nah just the cake baby! Everybody loved the cake as well! I got red velvet with cream cheese filling on the inside. Thank you very much! The lady I worked with (Chrissy) was extremely helpful throughout the process of getting this order together. Highly recommend.

Honestly I don't even like cake (I do like frosting lol). Yes I am a weirdo. Anyway despite that, I do like my cakes to look awesome, and taste amazing for others. After looking at most places all over the island I finally checked out the cake don and he does absolutely amazing work. We first used him for our baby shower cake. My cousins still talk about that cake being one of the best ever. The taste and how adorable it was. We also used him for our son's first birthday party which again everyone loved. My one girl loved it so much she had to get his 4th of July cupcakes for our little party and my son literally lived his best life that day. Those cupcakes were my son's dream, cuteness overload as he had red/white and blue icing all over him lol. Anyway I'd 100% recommend him for cakes, cupcakes, etc. He's the best on long island.

This is how I got the cake !!!!!

I ordered cake for my baby shower, I paid extra money for safe delivery, as I was told by bakery.they told me if I pay extra for delivery that's guarantee for safe Delivery! unfortunately this is how I got the cake at the time of delivery ! I attached the picture below , which is marked with red circle. As u see The bow is dropped!! I also attached picture of cake which I ordered. I don't recommend this bakery for any event!!!!!

I'll be going to Don for all my cake needs in the future! Definitely check him out!!!

Trued the new S'mUDGE cupcake today... The chocolatey goodness of the s'mores + fudge cupcakes combined is incredible and a new fave!

I recently celebrated my birthday with a custom cake from "The Cake Don" . I was so excited with the outcome of our cake. Don is so talented and will truly bring any vision of yours to life! He created a masterpiece based just from my inspiration. Not to mention the cake, itself, was DELICIOUS! Several fabulous options of fillings and frostings to pair and choose from. I appreciated the teams communication prior to the big day as well as a seamless delivery to the venue. Thanks again for making my celebration extra special. Highly recommend treating yourself or loved ones to a custom Cake Don creation!!

I don't know where to begin. I am so so so so glad someone close recommended me this place for my sons first birthday cake. Don greeted us so warmly and quickly showed us the designs for the ideal cake we wanted. The attention to detail, the flavoring , the quality is all 5 stars. This place is a must try for whatever your special occasion is. You will not be disappointed!! Thank you so much Don!!

Our daughter had her 100th day celebration and we decided to go with Cake Don after reading the reviews on yelp. We called Don and setup an appointment with him. We sat down and showed him some pictures online of what we had in mind. He was receptive to our wishes and gave a few helpful suggestions too. We then chose the flavor of the cake; and that was pretty much it. We got the cake on our scheduled date and time. The cake came out as we had designed. Our family members were impressed and thought we had bought it at a Chinese bakery since the Chinese character, colors and design were authentic in appearance. In terms of taste, the cake is really delicious. It's not overly sweet and fairly light (excluding the fondant). We chose vanilla cake with strawberry filling which ends up as a mousse with pieces of macerated strawberries. It's easy to have more than one piece. We will definitely be going back to Cake Don in the future for our cake needs and recommend him to family and friends. We're glad we found someone in this area for our custom cake needs.

This is the cake that was delivered.

Let me first say when you're dealing with a theme-styled cake, details are everything (and of course flavor). I ordered this cake for my husband's 50th birthday party and being that this is my first husband's favorite movie of all time it just seemed appropriate. The details on the cake I received were very good and the cake itself tasted very good as well and overall my cake looked almost like the one posted on Pinterest (which, along with the great reviews, is what helped me decide to order from The Cake Don in the first place). I was just a little disappointed that 3 details were missing from the cake: 1) the cigar 2) the handkerchief and 3) blood from the horses head - but again, like I mentioned, the cake tasted very good and still the artistry was excellent and I would deal with them again, but I think next time I would make a concerted effort to take the trip out there (they're located in Long Island I live in New Jersey) before the date of an event to make sure to cross all my T's and dot all of my i's in person. I'm still a big believer in dealing with people in person.... For certain things a.k.a. special orders, as opposed to dealing with people by text or over the phone just because things like this can happen and I was a little worried Something like this would happen. With that said, again I would order from them again- they did a great job.

I literally bought one mini baguette, took a bite outside the store and walked right back in for 4 more. It is THAT good. Not only did these set me back $9 total, but were annoying to eat and not worth the cost at all. The minimal chocolate filling had sunken to the bottom and completely fused to the wrappers, and the muffins were very dry inside, not soft and fudgey like chocolate babka should be. Everything they have looks and sounds incredible, but the two muffins I got were very overpriced and not nearly good enough to be worth it. As an avid baker, and sweets connoisseur, I'm always looking to find new bakeries or home bakers…read morethat elevate what I can do myself **I'm looking at you The Egg Suite, The Crumb Picker, and Elisa's Niece's Cafe**and I was really looking forward to trying this bakery. Well let me just say that this was an atrocious experience from start to finish. I will NEVER return to this bakery. The girl helping me didn't know if the tiramisu was made with mascarpone or whipped cream or if the Napoleon had pastry cream, custard, or whipped cream. Usually you can tell by looking and that should've been my first sign that something was off. I just assumed that she was new and she was super sweet and apologetic so I forged on. I ordered an Italian cheesecake, cannoli, a single serve tiramisu, and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was soft and a little chewy and the quality of the chocolate was on point. When I opened the box that the cheesecake was in, it was filled with a viscous brown fluid that in my 5 minute drive home had actually accumulated enough to soak through the cardboard bakery box. I immediately knew that either there was too much butter in the crust, there was a water bath issue, meaning the crust was not properly sealed against the water bath or the water level was too high, OR, the cake was old and prolonged refrigeration was the culprit. I brought the cake right back and quietly showed the counter employee the issue...there were customers in the store and I was not looking to draw attention to this issue. The worker was appropriately apologetic and brought it to the back...and that's where everything quickly deteriorated. The owner came out accusing me of dropping the cake, which didn't happen and also had nothing to do with all the oozing brown goo, and then proceeded to insult and demean me in front of the other customers. He said I "obviously wasn't Italian" and therefore "didn't know anything about Italian cheesecakes." When I shared that I was actually born in Italy he quickly shifted to degrading the region my family and I are from. He then said "oh do you make cheesecake every day like we do because if you don't, you don't get to have an opinion." He went on and on while I just continued to request a refund for the defective item. To be fair and transparent, I would've probably overlooked the dripping crust if the cheesecake tasted amazing but it tasted like it had spent a few days too long in the fridge. These days spending close to $40 for a small cake is somewhat of a luxury. I appreciate all of the bakeries and home bakers who are persevering in this difficult economy and continuing to produce quality products. I absolutely understand that nothing is perfect and mistakes happen and when I'm at fault, I take responsibly and hold myself accountable. I do not yell, demean, and insult customers like this owner did. There are too many wonderful bakeries and home bakers that stand behind their goods and deserve your patronage and hard earned money. This establishment is NOT one of the them. As multiple other reviews have stated, it seems that when things are good they're good but when they are bad, this owner is rude and takes no accountability. I do wonder if he would've spoken to my husband in the same manner that he spoke to me but we'll never know because no one I know will ever step foot in this establishment again. Also, the cannoli shells were totally soggy on the bottom. A true Italian bakery would fill individually per order.

You see…read moreI completely forgot to write this place up back in July and after visiting them only a few days ago (for a different reason), I realized a review needed to be penned. A four star compilation with mostly positive things to say. Let's get baking. Well, that summer trip actually involved breakfast. My wife and I trekked over to Centerport (on her birthday actually), for a quaint breakfast inside this small bake shop. The menu and its enticing Insta pics really brought us here and so we got both coffee and a morning meal. That aforementioned menu is quite vast and with so much to choose from, we decided to split "The Famished Breakfast" which included all kinds of tasty options (eggs, bacon, pancakes, fried cheese, tostones, and more). To nitpick, some items listed and some that we got weren't exactly the same, but to also be fair, everything was delicious. Equally delicious might be their variety of savory pies. They have so many to choose from, but you have to either call ahead or be lucky with what they have. Two made their way home with us (the piggy mac and the chopped cheese) which were consumed shortly after our visit with both being dense and rich, but definitely tasty. Not as equally delicious might be their coffee. Yeah, I think I've turned into a bit of a snob as these days I'm looking for legitimacy in the coffee itself and not just some pretty pics and cool flavors. Though Hometown has quite a variety of options, I'd say that if you're looking for some strong coffee, this wouldn't be the spot. If you're looking for some great breakfast and crullers, well... And therein lies our most recent trip: crullers. Hometown doles out a plethora of cruller options, but only on Sundays. Get there early (like pre-opening by 15-20 minutes at least) to be sure you snag whichever flavors they're going to have (check Instagram). Knowing we were going to share with a bunch of other people, we chose a dozen to try, but heed my words, these things are gargantuan! Also, they won't last long in preserving so if you have any leftovers, don't expect them to be good past the day you bought them. But in the moment while they're fresh, you'll be in cruller heaven after one bite (especially if you try the death by chocolate one). Overall, hometown Bakeshop is a legitimate place for everything they concoct in an oven (throw in stovetop too). Yeah perhaps their coffee sounds better than it tastes, but that might just be me wanting something a little more coffee forward. Beyond that discrepancy, I'd gladly return to Hometown for breakfast, pies, crullers, or who knows what else? Come and get some!
