    Cheeseburger and spicy fries

This place is a real surprise. The parking lot is always full, and the food is great. I had a cheeseburger today with spicy fries and it was a very fine one.

This location is a large building with lots of seating options. I had to try Central as it keeps winning awards and is consistently mentioned as the top BBQ place in the Memphis area. Some of their awards were displayed at the entrance and on the walls. Lots of history. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and had the slaw on the side so I could have it (she's not a slaw fan). I had the small order of ribs with 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet with sides of BBQ Beans and Mac n Cheese. I tried the pulled pork and it was tender and delicious. My ribs were pretty good with my favorite part being the wet ribs. The dry part was overcooked and really dry and chewy. This was a bit of a disappointment. The BBQ beans were flavorful but a bit mushy. The Mac n cheese also mushy a bit but tasted better than it looked. I love great BBQ so I like Central BBQ but may have caught them on a bad day. Oh, they were out of a lot of T Shirt options/size I wanted too. Darn. I wanted to buy one. I would return and try the brisket, pulled pork or poultry items next time.

We had the ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were good and tender and the pulled pork was good but a bit on the dry side. I just used more bbq sauce. All in all it was a very nice place for lunch after visiting the National Civil Rights Museum just across the way.

But we were there until well after 8pm. I am sorry, but not now that I've eaten there. We had just gotten in to town from my sons, across the state. It's like an 8 hour drive. Anyway my BIL says let's go to BBQ. I'm thinking great, a sarcastic great, just what I want mediocre BBQ. Before you pop off with this is Memphis There's no such thing. I beg to differ. All others are mediocre compared to OUTLAW. First off our waitress was adorable. Cute as can be and that accent sent me into hysterics. She was absolutely a delight. We are late. The shift is ending and it's time to clean up and she greets us with not just a smile but the sweetest personality. That's service. Ok let's talk food. We ordered the meal for two. Catfish and ribs with two sides. Hubs doesn't just like catfish. That man can eat it like nobody's business. I ordered the ribs. Now comes the choices. Dry, wet or muddy. What? Is that another language. It sure is. This is Tennessee. We all know what dry rub is. Wet is BBQ Sauce. Muddy is both. Dry and wet. Whawhozy! Sides fried green tomatoes and BBQ beans were my choices. No pics because we descended on our food We didn't stop for lunch just drove all day long. Ergo ravenous, falling on our food hungry. Anywho, hubs took the fish. Here's a side note, I'm now allergic to fish and shellfish. All of it. It's a crying shame. Really it is. I miss it. Like a lot. His fish came with hush puppies. Those were like candy. So good. The fried green tomatoes had a side dipping sauce that was fantastic. Now the ribs. I couldn't cut them. They fell apart. I mean off the bone, melt in your mouth, feel the spicy burn, off the bone. I'm pretty sure I moaned but that's a personal problem. We will just skip that part. Oh and before I forget I cannot fail to mention my husband are half the ribs, too. Good service, friendly, quaint, open seating, large portions and lastly... the best BBQ I've had. We have a mediocre bbq place on the left coast where I live. This is not mediocre. I don't actually live ON the coast just the state that is known for its coastline. Thank You OUTLAW BBQ. We enjoyed our stop over and are now grade across country back to the land of mediocrity in the BBQ realm.

I went here on a recommendation from a friend who spends time in the Oxford area on business and…read moreloves BBQ. She had never been herself, mind you. She just said that she heard about "a shack in the middle of nowhere with great ribs." I had to kill half my phone's battery to find a mention of the place that had an address. As for the business hours and phone number? Forget about it. But the lure was enticing - a small family-run grocery with no seating and raved-about smoked meats. And the name itself (supposedly the Mom's name of the Mom and Pop proprietors) was enough for me to go in search of it. When and if you go on this quest and your GPS directs you to get on Old Oxford Road off of 7 *NORTH OF* the 310 junction, ignore it and get on Old Oxford Road where it joins 7 below 310. Because if you do that, my friends, it's the very first property you come across. And if you do what I did and put your faith in your smart phone, you will end up on a very long roundabout which is only partially paved and you car's paint job and suspension will thank me if you don't do that. And if you are looking at the map right next to this review and not understanding how that can be, that's because THE MAP IS LYING TO YOU. I told Yelp where to put the red-star marker thingy and they are ignoring me. It should be waaaaay below where it is, at the other point where 7 and 310 meet. However you get there, when you get there the grocery is really just that by appearances. Most of the other customers (and there were a few) were there for beer. There's room for about a dozen cars to park, but there would be more if the rusted out car cemetery was cleared out of the backyard. There is a table inside the space but it looks like it's set up for a private late-night poker game or the family's on-site meals and meetings. In other words, it doesn't look like it's there for you. Even though there was no sign anywhere indicating that they had hot food and the lunch meats behind the deli counter looked like they didn't see much action, when I asked the nice gentleman behind the counter if he had any BBQ, he did indeed. Ribs and pulled pork. We got one of each. Ribs turned out to be a pork rack with a container of sauce on the side. The sauce was closer to sweet and sour sauce in taste and consistency. The ribs had decent flavor to them but were not fall-off-the-bone tender. They didn't fight too hard to get off the bone either, though. The pulled pork ended up being a sandwich. The pork was tasty but there wasn't enough of it compared to the large and partially stale bun. The coleslaw was creamy and fresh but I'm also fairly certain it wasn't homemade. I can't fault them too much for the food. As the draw to them comes from the fact that they are in the middle of nowhere, the problem with being in the middle of nowhere is you don't get many customers. It's not like the smoker was on (or even in view). I can't fault them for the supply/demand logistics of sporadic customers for a product that takes hours to prepare. But I can fault them for the price. We paid too much, in my opinion. A rack of ribs, one underwhelming sandwich, and a bottle of soda came to $23. I don't know what cost what since there's no itemized receipt. But the draw for you, I'd imagine, if you've read all of this, is saying that you drove to the middle of nowhere Mississippi, to a shack called Betty Davis, for some BBQ. And that's a worthy quest, no matter what I thought of my meal. Go for it.

This is my favorite bbq in Mississippi, and that's saying a lot!…read moreAs a Mississippi local raised on some of the best bbq in the area, I can easily say Betty Davis is the best. The ribs are straightforward because they don't need much adornment. They are cooked perfectly and served with a delicious, tangy/slightly spicy sauce. Betty Davis forever!!!!
