PLEASE NOTE NEW HRS, which apparently just changed. We came after lunch on a Friday, but fortunately arrived 10 min. before 2p, so we didn't have to wait long. Please note the storefront is very tiny, and only 2 people (with masks) are currently allowed in at a time. Only cupcakes and four types of cookies were available. No other cakes or pastries. There was a good selection of different cupcakes, with cute/humorous names, very attractively frosted and decorated. I didn't count exactly how many varieties, but I'd guess about 10 different kinds, so you can probably find a couple of flavors to try. Spouse got a chocolate and I got a vanilla cupcake. Both cakes were moist; the vanilla noticeably denser than the chocolate. The vanilla cake was good, but the chocolate tasted like cocoa but without any sugar added, so the chocolate flavor didn't really come out and was flat-tasting. Frostings were very sweet; the chocolate had a nice well-balanced flavor. I appreciated the big ripe strawberry on top of my vanilla frosting; it added some welcome acidity. Spouse got a chocolate chip cookie. We like soft cookies, but this is relatively thin and you are warned, they are very fragile. We put them in a bag from the car and the cookie broke up a bit by the time we got back home. Doesn't affect the flavor, but if appearance matters, bring or ask for a box! I also got one of the lemon bars, which are cut into small squares and packed in pairs, one atop the other, in cute little plastic boxes. I found them on the sweet side, so Spouse finished the second one. read more

I was super excited to have a new cake shop in Alameda but the cupcakes I tried here really missed the mark. The shop is cute and the cupcakes look cute, but those are all the good things I can say. First, it's super weird for a cupcake shop to sell their cupcakes chilled if they are meant to be eaten at room temperature. It's a little frustrating I cannot buy one to eat right away. Also, it really gives the impression the cake either was baked a long time ago or it's not baked on site, even though they say they're baked on site. If they are fresh baked on site that same day, why on earth are you ruining them this way????? It's pretty basic food knowledge that refrigerating cake dries it out and makes it go stale faster, you'd think a professional baker would know that and not allow their cakes to be stored and sold that way. Anyway, I did give them the full fair shot by waiting until the cupcakes were room temperature before eating. The cake itself was dry (which I was already expecting given the refrigeration) but also dense and clumpy. It was more like cheap cornbread than cake, not a good mouthfeel on the texture. I tried 4 different flavors - the only one that had any flavor in the cake that came through was the chocolate, the rest just tasted sweet but lacked depth and complexity of flavor. The icings were ok but nothing special. Texture of the icing was fine but again not much depth of flavor at all, just sweet. If I were blindfolded and you fed me these cupcakes, with the exception of the chocolate I would not be able you tell you what flavors any of them were. I'm a cake snob, so take that for what it's worth but overall this bakery was extremely disappointing. I've had significantly better cake made from a Duncan Hines mix. read more

Cupcakes are amazing super soft and not too sweet! My favorite is the ube cupcake, flavor is on point and the icing has just the right sweetness and still has the gentle ube flavor. My second favorite is their red velvet. My sister lives close by and she just gave me some ube cupcakes and it's love at first bite. The owners are friendly and the store has a cute vibe. I will keep going back here to satisfy my cupcake cravings. read more

My fiancee and I tried some of their cupcakes recently, flavors in Cookie Monster, Oreo, lemon, velvet, peach, funfetti. They have a ton of flavors but I think my favorite was peach and Cookie Monster. The presentation of the cupcakes are really nice. The owner really has an eye for decorating each flavor in a unique way, using different shapes and sizes of sprinkles, placing decorative pieces, and varying the color and texture of the icing. The product is placed inside a clear plastic box with a logo of the shop on it. We gave some to my parents and it was a really nice presentation as a gift. The cupcakes were nice and moist as well. We decided to ask if they do wedding cakes, as we were really impressed with their cupcake presentation. And they do! Their pricing is really good and the owner is really professional, replying to our emails promptly. We are excited to work with them and can't wait to see how it turns out! read more

It seems like this place just opened. While walking by it with my daughter, I got a strawberry cupcake. I really wanted to like it as I love cupcakes and the staff was really sweet and friendly. However the pink cake part of the cupcake was sickly sweet and the icing was hard like the cupcakes were placed in the fridge instead of being fresh. However the taste of the icing itself was okay. Also I love lemon flavored baked goods that are naturally flavored without artificial coloring. However their lemon cupcakes were an unnatural neon lemon color, which did not look appetizing. I'm hoping this review along with some other honest reviews will help improve the product. So...despite this somewhat negative review I still plan to go back in a few months to see if they improve their cakes into tasty treats. read more

This is my absolute go-to place for cakes! I've already ordered two custom cakes in the past month, and both of them turned out amazing. The cake itself is moist and just the right amount of sweet, and the decorations are gorgeous. Rebekah is super responsive, and works really hard to meet any requests without missing any details. Definitely recommend 12/10!! read more

Sometimes I buy cupcakes and think 'mine are better, I should have made my own'. This is definitely NOT a place that made me feel that way. Even my 19 year old loved all 6 flavors that I bought; my 19 year old who told me 7 years ago that he doesn't really like cupcakes/cake much and usually only eats maybe half a cupcake in an attempt to understand why his mom loves sweets so much. I loved the variety offered and each were uniquely flavorful. I'm only sorry that it took me a year of living in Alameda to finally go by and pick some up. This sweet tooth mom highly recommends Doodlecakes! read more

Here's what you should know about me. I am a cupcake connoisseur, which is a nice way of saying I'm a cupcake addict. So I've tried cupcakes all over the Bay Area. I am also gluten and dairy free so am always on the hunt for a good gluten free/vegan cupcake that is moist and flavorful. This place is legit! They only opened a few weeks ago and it's run by a sweet husband and wife team. They currently only have 2 gluten free cupcakes at a time (I think they switch out the flavors weekly which is good for me since I am only allowed one cupcake per week) but this is a good ratio for such a small shop. And they are so delicious that you'd never know!! I am so happy that this place is right around the corner from me and I highly recommend. Go show this new place some love! read more

Rebekah responded immediately to my inquiry. We moved forward with 3 dozen mini cupcakes for a school birthday party and a Spider-Man birthday cake for a second birthday party. Everything was a hit and I had multiple parents asking me for bakery details. We will definitely be contacting Rebekah again for all of our party needs! read more

We worked with Rebekah on our custom Frozen themed cake and it turned out food network status- beautiful! Rebekah was super communicative and easygoing and open to discussing ideas for the cake! We got the cookies and cream cake with vanilla frosting and it was really, really good! read more

I'm one of these people that hates this word so you won't hear me say it often, but these cupcakes are MOIST! Absolutely top tier stuff.

My husband wanted to get me a cake for my birthday and it's just the two of us so we ordered the mini cake in line on Wednesday and he was contacted Wednesday night to confirm order (and even confirm cake message was correct). The process was easy and the cake was yummy I would definitely order from here again and recommend that you check it out! :) read more

We've ordered custom orders from Doodlecakes twice and both times have been so impressed by the design and quality of the cakes. Last year we ordered our son's first birthday cake and it was just as we envisioned. And we recently ordered space themed cupcakes for my child's 7th birthday. They were not only tasty but we received so many compliments. I will continue to return to Doodlecakes and visit them for treats from time to time in addition to the custom orders. read more

I love it here! The interior makes me feel like I'm in a sweet carefully curated comic book with colors that pop to match the flavors of the week. I've found out that the flavors change every two weeks so go today because your favorite may be gone when you go. It happened to me but I found a new favorite- well several new favorites. The owners Tom and I believe his wife were so kind and hospitable. I came in with my toddlers who of course were excited at the very sight of sugar and they hosted us with such grace. I highly recommend this bakery on service alone. The cupcakes are delicious and my personal favorite is the confetti and the red velvet. They seem to be there regularly but don't be afraid to try the others either! read more

So good. They had a variety of vegan options which is rare in Alameda (maybe non-existent? Well, not anymore) My daughter tried the lemon bar and chocolate cupcake and I got the smores and carrot vegan cupcakes. They all had perfect texture, balance of flavors, and were perfectly moist. Will definitely be getting cakes from them going forward. The people were also very kind and patient. Highly recommend! read more

I picked up half a dozen cupcakes from here for my newborn's one week "birthday" party. My wife and I tried the cinnamon toasty, red velvet, cookies and cream, choco coco, oreo, and vanilla matcha - all were fantastic! I think we might have even liked the gluten free/vegan cupcakes more than the regular ones. We love that there is this cupcake shop on the island, and can't wait to come back. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I check the reviews on every establishment that i eat at. Taste is subjective, so i mainly look at customer service and cleanliness. Well i heard through social media of a new small black owned bakery opening in Alameda. I wanted to wait to see the reviews. After seeing a couple not so great reviews, I thought ok I need to check them out for myself. Hardly any of them commented on customer service or cleanliness. Well, first off the owners are so sweet! Excellent customer service greeting me as I came in. I saw that they were sold out of a lot of items. Owners apologized and learned that I need to get there early to get my pick! I could tell they were working very hard just the two of them! The place was spotless, so clean!! I was able to snag a peaches and cream cake jar and a lemon cupcake. The owners let me know that they are best served room temp. I couldn't wait though, I ate them in the car!! Amazing! So moist and delicious. Every bite was packed with flavor, and not too sweet. I was worried it would be too sweet reading some of the reviews. But, Nope! It was just right! And that's saying a lot, because I don't like super sweet things. All in all I enjoyed my experience there and will definitely go back! Check them out they're just starting out! Spread kindness! read more

Rebekah was amazing! My sister has a gluten allergy and a birthday that is shared with Christmas Eve. My Mom had forgotten to order a cake so I was calling around to different bakeries 3 days before Christmas Eve trying to find a place that would allow us to place an order. I was getting turned away at every call I made, until I found Doodlecakes. Though they were already super busy, Rebekah was kind enough to squeeze in our last minute order. She was very helpful and not once seemed to rush us or be frustrated with our late order. We chose the gluten free s'mores cake and it was phenomenal! Rich in flavor, sweet but not too sweet, one of the best cakes by far (including cakes that are not gluten free). We will absolutely be ordering again from Doodlecakes. Added bonus that they have a case of ready to pickup gluten-free cupcakes, and I believe regular as well! read more

Doodlecakes is amazing. Run by an amazing couple who are so sweet and talented. The cupcakes are bomb and the cakes are even amazing too. Rebecca did an amazing job on my cake for my birthday even though she was already booked with preparing cakes for other customers, she took the time to squeeze in my order and asked me how I wanted my cake to be. The flavor and design was great! If you're looking for a great bakery look no further Doodlecakes is great! read more

I ordered a cake here for my sons 2nd birthday party. It was a farm theme and although I felt it could have been a little more detailed for the price, (210 including tax) it was still a cute cake and the kids got a kick out of eating the fondant made animals. I got a 2 tier cake, 8 inch round with a 4 inch on top. The 8 inch was a strawberry cake with vanilla frosting and a cream cheese frosting filling with strawberries. We decided to go with lemon for the 4Inch with the same frosting and filling and sort of wish we did a different flavor cake or did strawberry for it also. The cream cheese frosting tasted more like frosting than cream cheese which we weren't expecting but for the cake to have been picked up the night before the party and refrigerated overnight most of the cake was still moist. We weren't the biggest fans of the lemon but the strawberry was pretty good and was not so sweet! From the pictures on yelp I was expecting the cake to be a bit taller, but it was more than enough for my 30 guests. Overall I am satisfied with my order from Doodlecakes and would recommend them to others, I would also recommend to pass by and do a cake tasting before placing your order so you know exactly what you want your cake to taste like! I just didn't have that time. Thanks so much Rebekah :) read more

WOW! I am so glad we stumbled upon this place, I would give it 10 stars if I could. And they have gluten free (six different flavors)!! I found out about this place back in August. I came for the lemon bar, but stayed for the beautiful packaging and presentation. The owners are completely delightful. You can tell they love their business. They are very kind to their customers. I have returned several times since then. Ran into doodlecakes upon their Grand Opening last weekend. The line was worth the wait. They had small cakes, cupcakes, cake slices, cake jars, cookies, and more! This little bakery is run by a delightful couple who are focused on customer satisfaction and consistency. We had a birthday emergency when our grandkids were visiting from Chicago. They broke their own rules and turned around a custom cake in record time. My wife and I visited yesterday near closing time and their demeanor was as fresh as their cupcakes! We never feel like we are a bother no matter when we visit or what we are asking for. You know the feeling that you get when you walk into a store near closing time and the staff makes you feel like you're bothering them or blocking their plans? Not this couple - not ever! This is a wonderful little bakery - you'll love the sweets and the team! I promise. read more

We were looking for a last minute birthday cake for a small part of 5 people. Doodle cakes had just opened. We popped in and they were awesome. They were able to take one of their standard cakes, do some additional decor on top and add some birthday flair. The cake itself was delicious. This was a much better solution than a last minute cake from a grocery store. We also added a few cute cupcakes just in case, but the cake ended up being plenty for our small gathering. A+. read more

Get there early they sell out pretty early. Chocolate cupcake is my personal fave super good

Very excited to find this bakery. They have amazing cupcakes with very unique flavors and the biggest draw is they have vegan and gluten-free cupcakes available same day. I've had a difficult time finding somewhere I can get things the day of. Most bakeries you have to order two weeks ahead and I'm just not that kind of planning ahead person. Can't wait to go back and try more of their treats. I have my eye on the pineapple soft serve. Rebecca and Thomas are lovely and I want to support this local business. Highly recommend. read more
