Definitely the best donuts I've ever had, authentic and delicious. Just unfortunate they only take cash and don't provide an ATM

Love the Donut shack best donuts around wish their were more like them they the Marshmallow donuts

Maybe the best donuts I've ever eaten? I'll just have to go back every weekend to confirm these findings. Favorites included the honeydip, the coconut, and the chocolate glazed. Echoing others and recommend going early. We arrived at 9:15 and had a decent selection, although some varieties were sold out. We ate our donuts at one of the two tiny tables in store and watched as a line formed and they sold another 10 dozen in quick succession. By 9:45, they had almost sold out entirely. read more

Donut Shack - The perfect dozen - Donuts Near Me - Lowell, Massachusetts

My boyfriend had a hankering for doughnuts while we're here visiting my grandmother in North Chelmsford for the holidays, and we thin-blooded Angelinos dared to brave the inhospitable Massachusetts snow and 4 degree weather in search of fluffy, fried deliciousness. Plus, I thought it would be remiss of me not to eat a Boston cream doughnut when I'm so close to Boston. Donut Shack is a small mom and pop establishment with plenty of street parking out front. Donuts are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and when they run out for the day, that's it. Even though we arrived after 10am on a Saturday morning, they still had a nice selection to choose from. We got a dozen doughnuts for an affordable $10 even, and the owner was kind enough to even throw in an apple turnover and morning glory muffin for free when he found out it was our first time there! He said he normally he gives coffee rolls to first-time patrons, but they were already out for the day. All the doughnuts were fresh, large, and delicious. The cake doughnuts are moist and with a crunchy shell and the yeast doughnuts have an airy crumb with a lightly crisp exterior. My favorite doughnuts were the chocolate glazed crueller (a super crunchy cake twist), the honey dip (classic yeast ring with a honey glaze), the raspberry jelly-filled (moderately sweet but high on the fresh berry flavor), and the Boston cream. We also tried the marshmallow-filled, but I found the cream to be extremely sweet and almost similar in texture and flavor to vanilla cake frosting. Not my preference, but the quality is still superb. Donut Shack's Boston cream is, without a doubt, the best doughnut I have ever had in my life. The chocolate frosting isn't overly sweet and has a deep chocolate flavor, and the thick, luscious custard was only mildly sweetened but present in abundance. I love anything with custard, and Donut Shack's custard simply blows everything else out of the water. I savored each bite of the Boston cream and it somehow magically got tastier the more I ate - it never once became cloying. I finished eating it two hours ago and I'm still sitting around with a goofy smile on my face as I think about it. My one regret right now is that I live in Los Angeles and will soon be over 3000 miles away from Donut Shack. If you are anywhere remotely close to Boston, I highly recommend stopping by Donut Shack. The owners are friendly and fry up some phenomenal doughnuts! read more

Dirty little hole in the wall. Did not live up to the hype.. Maybe these other reviewers have never had Top Donut because that's where it's at. Waaaay better marshmallow filled donuts. Definitely will not try this place again. read more

This donut place is AMAZING! Not only are the donuts delicious, but the woman who owns the place is an angel! This morning I came into the store with my credit card to purchase donuts but unfortunately they only accept cash purchases. I was saddened but was instantly grateful and surprised when the owner NOT ONLY let me purchase the donuts and coffee but let me bring her my payment in cash the following day! That act of kindness blew me away and gained her a customer for a lifetime! read more

Best Donuts I've had in my recent memory. The Honey Dipped are extrodinary and the filled donuts a treat! They serve coffee (reg. or decaf) and donuts. Some pastries in the front that don't seem all too enticing but I'll bet are delicious. However!!! They are only openin the morning for a few hours so get there early. By 9am the selection is already limited. They make the stuff fresh in the morning and that's it. PASS read more

The Donut Shack has now become a monthly ritual for me. I was there this morning & AGAIN they knocked it out of the park!!!! I purchased a half dozen of which I believe may have been in the range of $6 ( cash only) including tax. The assortment again was outstanding. I could not see/choose one I didn't like. I brought them home to share with a neighbor who after the sampling will also be a happy customer. Gone for me are the days of being prompted immediately after walking into a DD - before I can even think, " What can I get you?" along with a serious attitude issue...no no, no... And of course you never know what mood they'll be in. If you even look at them, it's all down hill! Then, after dealing with that - only to be served mediocre coffee & a hockey puck in resemblance to some kind of donut. At The Donut Shack, the staff are ALWAYS friendly & helpful. I have absolutely no desire to go anywhere other than The Donut Shack in Lowell read more

One million stars for this hole in the wall. Forget Heavenly Donuts. Forget Krispy Kreme. Forget Top Donut. (DD doesn't even deserve a mention as being in the same galaxy as this place.) DONUT SHACK FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! Fresh cream filled donuts, gooey glazed donuts, crispy/melty cinnamon sugar donuts. The selection is limited and hours are short, closing at 11:30 on Sundays. You will never be satisfied with another donut in all your life, that's my personal guarantee. Cash only. Ring the bell when you get to the counter if the girls are out back. $5.50 for 6 donuts. You cannot go wrong with Donut Shack. read more

Donut Shack has the best jelly donuts I've ever had in my life. Normally I don't consider myself a huge jelly fan but this one is worth the drive for. I wasn't too keen on the glazed donuts though. Of course the marshmallow donuts lived up to its hype. None of these donuts are fancy or anything but sometimes you just need a plain good old donuts without the cereals and candy bars! read more

First time today so happy to have finally found good donuts in Massachusetts! Because of a certain popular chain in New England is impossible to find a good donut. Well look no more these donuts are perfect. Crunchy on the outside and not too sweet. A must try read more

Horrible. We arrived at 11:30 which is late for a donut shoppe. I expected the shelves to be picked over but hoped for the best. We walked in the door and we're not greeted at all, but actually walked into an argument between the 2 behind the counter. While we tried to peer around them at the completely bare shelves they just stared at us. We were offered (to buy) day old donuts that were going to the shelter later that day. Not sure how the food is, but the service was horrible. Not worth the trip. Hooksett,NH --Lowell, Ma for this experience. read more

The best donuts you can get in the Lowell area. It is cash only, but worth the visit to am ATM. A safe bet is always the creme filled, which they are known for. Make sure you get here before 9pm -- they sell out quickly! They also have excellent hot & iced coffee to go along with the donuts. Overall, this is a must-visit spot. A local, family run, literal hole-in-the-wall donut place that can't be beat. read more

Best donuts in Lowell and local local local! Worth the trip. Better yet, have a seat at the sun-drenched table, get a coffee and watch the world go by. Highly recommended. read more

Best donuts around. One of the few places that still makes their own in house. Get there early.

First Impression: OMG finally a fresh donut! That's what this place is, its a hole in the wall donut shop with extremely fresh donuts. This place is on Westford St, for those of you coming off the highway at the old Wang towers its right off of Stevens St. But when you turn onto Westford St., don't blink cause you'll pass it before you could even say donut. And don't bother to try and find the sign , because it wasn't there today. Just look for all the parked cars and people going in and out of what looks like a crappy store. For the Yelpers who are going to complain, and I promise you there will be a few, this place is what it is. This is a place with extremely fresh donuts, that's it. Its not an adorable café, or a place to sit and work on your laptop with wifi. It's not a coffee shop, although they do serve Green Mountain Coffee. And its not a place where your gonna get kitschy donuts with maple bacon glaze or fruit loops attached to the glaze. They make 6-7 normal, regular every day donuts but they make them well and most importantly they are made so close to when you purchase them they will be among the freshest donuts you could get. Personally I like the "marshmallow" and the apple filled. The marshmallow is actually a donut filled with whoopee pie cream, my guess is the standard filling from Bake n' Joy stuffed in the donut where they cut about 1/3 of the way instead of pumped with a machine, then it is not glazed. Personally I think this is perfect! If you then glaze a donut filled with frosting it is too much sugar. The apple filled is constructed the same way with what I believe again is a commercially bought filling but then it is coated with a perfect blend of granulated sugar and cinnamon. Another brilliant move here by not using the standard confectioners sugar. It's perfect in my opinion! I would drive 45 minutes to get a donut here, thankfully for me its only about half that. I give that time frame because that's about how far I am from Kane's in Saugus. Maybe if Kane's didn't exist I would increase my drive time. Last, it seems that the word is out and by 8:50 this morning the selection was limited although I was told they were working on more in the back. So I would. recommend getting there early. If you love fresh donuts and live somewhat close this is the place, hands down for the freshest donut around. I'm sorry Heaven'ly, I love you but your size makes you too big to compete. You just can't keep freshness up when your volume gets to that size. Enjoy! read more

This local gem was discovered this past weekend. I've lived around the corner from them for years. YEARS. Never knew how good they were. was craving an adventure so I dashed out out of the house this past Sunday when I saw someone on FB had posted something about their donuts. I got there around 1015, barely any left but managed to get a dozen donuts and as soon as I did the line got big behind me, and someone asked if they could buy my donuts for 25 dollars. I bought, Marshmallow filled, chocolate marshmallow filled, lemon filled, blueberry glazed and apple filled. Superb. Just Superb. Fresh and fluffy. We woke up early to try these much appraised donuts. We ordered a dozen, which required much restraint because it crossed my mind to buy them out completely. First bite was nirvana, let's be honest, all donuts are delicious but these are on a whole other level. The actual donut was everything you want and need. It was fluffy and melts in your mouth, with a crisp that you knew was freshly fried this morning. I had the vanilla cream filled which is sinful. The buttercream frosting is perfect. Before we left, the two very nice girls at the counter asked my friend and I if it was our first time there, and being that it was they have us two free glazed cinnamon rolls that are the size of your head. Also delicious. I'll be dreaming of this place until I return :D read more

Visited for the first time this morning. Will definitely be back! These donuts are amazing! I've never had a Boston Creme as good. The filling was heavenly and the donut was the thickest I've ever had, clearly made fresh and by hand. A coworker remarked he hasn't had donuts like these since he was a kid. The customer service was excellent - everyone was welcoming, friendly and efficient. Worth the trip! read more

I've been waiting to check this place out for over a year. Never open. When I did make it there, the donuts sucked, the coffee would have been better if I went across the street to the convenience store, the girl at the counter could barely speak English and needed her hand held to figure out which donuts I wanted, and the donuts were dry and tasted day-old. I bought three, threw out the third one. Make the trip to Kane's or Union Square donuts for the real deal. read more

Cute - not necessarily cute in its decor, but in its diminutive size. Quality - in its food, and service. Quantity in the size of these doughnuts...they're huge! Can't wait to go back :) read more

Definitely a hole in the wall shop, but worth the drive. Parking is hard to find and can be difficult, and the shop is very easy to miss. Fresh and good quality donuts! I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of donuts and other breakfast pastries, and I must say the Donut Shack is my favorite donut from Boston to Austin (Texas). They're fabulous. Unlike some other gourmet donut shops, they're not overpriced. (Just $10/dozen, including tax, but remember to visit an ATM, because it's cash only!) On top of it all, they're just really, really nice there. The last time I was in, they gave me a coffee roll and let my daughter pick anything she wanted from the refrigerator, both gratis. It's not that far out of the way for the best donut anywhere! read more

This place is one of, if not the best donut shop I've ever been to. I went here for the first time about 2 months ago, the doughnuts disappeared when I got home real quick.
