Sharing this post I made after visiting today. We love you Safou! Every Saturday, our friend Safou at Donut Palace scrubs down the kitchen and carefully prepares dozens of nut-free vegan donuts so kids like Brandon can walk through the door and enjoy a treat. Today I picked up two dozen pink strawberry sprinkle donuts to send on his overnight Field Study so Brandon could have one of his favorite desserts with his friends and relish in the simple joy of sharing in what everyone else is eating. I don't think Safou fully understands what a gift he is to families like ours. He greets every person who walks through his doors like beloved family returning home after a long journey -- with warmth, generosity, and genuine joy. In a world that can feel so heavy at times, people like Safou quietly remind me what humanity is supposed to look like. Our world is better because he is in it. In my quest to find the perfect glazed and old fashion donuts, I visited Donut Palace located right off the 185th Avenue exit on the 26 West. I had been by on several different afternoons and they were closed. This Friday late morning they were open. I ordered an apple fritter and a glazed donut and an old fashion donut and was quickly on my way home. The two gentlemen who ran the place were quite nice. Inside was neat and clean with a collage of many photos on the wall to the left. Great ambiance, good vibes. But what about those donuts you ask? The apple fritter was more soft than you typically see and mildly sweet although the apple flavor was quite strong. Still, the softness was a bit off putting. Later that day I ate the glazed and old fashion donuts. The glazed the donut was puffy with the right amount of glaze; it appeared to be perfect. Surprisingly, it was not. It actually was a bit dry and slightly hard. The old fashion donut was spot on, having the right consistency of hard-ish on the outside, and moist and flavorful on the inside. Loved that one. Overall, I would recommend that you try this place to satisfy your donut fix. The donuts aren't spectacular, but they are good enough. The guys that work there are quite pleasant and in tune to great customer service. My guess is that their early morning batches are probably the best ones so get there early; do not get there close to lunch time like I did! read more

We'd heard really positive reviews of Donut Palace and decided to stop in as we were driving by today. So glad we did. As others have said, the staff are super friendly. Shelves were pretty picked over by the time we arrived mid-day on Saturday, but we still found quite a few treats. Apple fritter (excellent), buttermilk (yum!), pumpkin and apple cider (ok), and they also gave us a couple extra goodies that were great. We ate everything before leaving and loved it. Friendliest business I've ever encountered! Your kids are sure to leave happier than ever. It's like walking into donutland. There's seats out front, so you can dine in and look at all the kids cute drawings around. Donuts are amazing and lattes are delicious. Even their Vegan Saturday donuts have so many options and you can't even tell they're vegan. Wanted to try this place for a while and glad we did after my son's baseball game. We got half a dozen donuts: 2 strawberry, 2 glazed, 1 Bavarian cream filled and vanilla crumb. The staff were so friendly and welcoming that they gave us 2 more donuts for free: lemon filled and bakers special (vanilla frosting with chocolate cream). Ok listen, I get it, instagramable places are great but when you want good stuff like real good stuff you have to try out the unassuming places. This is that. We absolutely LOVE this place, so much that we moved 20 minutes away and still make the drive. This is a family owned and operated business. The entire staff is so nice but my girls especially love days that Safou, the owner, is there. The walls are covered with "Thank You" notes and colored drawings from happy customers. The staff at Donut Palace have been consistently the nicest staff I have ever been tended by. I have been going to this shop on and off since my sophomore year back in 2018. the older gentleman whom I would frequently see would always offer me an extra donut or a couple donut holes on the house whenever I would come! The other day I knew I was calling in late to see if they sold out of donuts. I was informed that they were actually closing early due to being nearly out for the day, but they offered me a dozen donuts in return that same day! I unfortunately was involved in a hit-and-run recently and let them know that I would have to probably take public transport so I wouldn't make it in time before closing. I tried a buttermilk bar, cinnamon roll, and fritter recently. I had forgotten my review from six years ago and the buttermilk bar blew my mind again! It has the perfect amount of oil and glaze over lots of nooks and crannies for an excellent surface area/volume ratio. I also ate a cinnamon roll fresh out of the fryer and it was the best thing ever; it was pillowy soft and melted in my mouth. Sadly, the apple fritter tasted burnt. Despite this, I still give this place five stars. The owner has a pretty funny sense of humor; he told me to hold my fresh cinnamon roll like a baby, lol. read more

They open daily (seven days a week?) during this difficult time. The owner bakes donuts everyday, serve them himself, put a plastic sheild in between the counter, put his gloves on, and wash the paper bills under the espresso steamer, then dry them out before he hands them to customers. Well I'd say some good, some decent and some not-so-decent.... The husband ran there this past weekend, best donut reviews in the immediate area so we had to give them a try. According to him, the gentlemen on staff were extremely friendly, and as it turns out eager to please. I'd requested a white cake donut with white frosting, and altho they didn't have any avail at that moment they offered to quickly ice a plain cake....very cool. As for our other selections, a couple old fashioned, a couple raised yeast, and 2 cakes. The yeast donuts were not good...the icings were good and the reg glazed even had crispy edges, always a fan. However they actually tasted of oil, never a fan. The white cake white icing was pretty good, although the icing wasn't the normal icing one expects on a donut. It was softer and slightly sweeter. To be honest it was a bit odd, but didn't taste bad. The old fashioned selections were on par with similar at most donut shops. Overall a good showing for service and cake varieties...but a miss on the yeast donuts. read more

So much that the crispy outside edges (that we usually love) crumbled off when bit into and the maple bar was super dry with too much icing (even though it did help when trying to swallow it down). 4.5 Stars for this place really has us scratching our heads. It was on our way to the beach so the high stars convinced us to stop here rather than going 5 minutes out of our way to Krispy Kreme (dumbest decision EVER!). I was planning to order a 1/2 dozen but when I saw the selection, quickly scaled it down to just a maple bar and an apple fritter for the hubby and me. Can donuts cure depression? In this essay I will explain the importance of mental health ... I kid, I kid. Although, I did have the best drive to work as I danced with my fritter and felt a little spark of happiness, (partly sugar induced and partly due to the service I received) after a looong emotional week. The Raspberry fritter I drove with removed any road "rage" (annoyance really). Every bite reminded me of my abuelas buñuelos. The filling highlighted the crisp sugar coating and transformed the texture to bring out the soft layers of raspberry and whatever else is in a fritter. I'm not a fritter doctor. (Look I was just as surprised as you and concerned with how much I loved that fritter. I even went back to get more donuts to try) ..I know I'm rambling now but I think you should go try one, maybe share with someone since they're a generous size. Overall, it was what I needed that Friday morning. I was feeling hopeless and afraid of what the future may look like in a few months. I wanted to get my crew some thank you / bribes. I left with said dozen donuts and an unexpected reminder that kindness can be the best tool against the challenges we face. The person behind the counter was friendly and helpful. It was a nice wake up call that I can't change others or their actions but I can help my community and extend kindness to others. (I went back to get another fritter and stole a bite of the raspberry filled donut. Just as I suspected, it was beautifully balanced. Sweet and tart but in the best way possible. "Don't ever bring me one of those from that place again!" Those are the words my exercising, health conscious, non-sweets eating wife said to me after scarfing down a donut I brought her from Donut Palace. You know something tastes good when you feel guilty after eating it so fast, and boy did she look guilty, and then a little mad when those words came out of her mouth. LOL Meanwhile I was taking my time enjoying every bite of my Guava donut. Oh yes, you heard me right, GUAVA DONUT. The gentleman behind the counter, Mo, was so pleasant, I could have hung out all day talking with him. He explained to me that they only use real fruit purée for their fillings and frostings. I can definitely assure you that makes a big difference. There's no artificial food coloring taste. COVID has been challenging for this business, as it's been for many others in the food industry. They only make a limited amount of donuts each morning, and when they're sold out, they close. It's a necessary adjustment for challenging times. So if you want one of these delicious donuts, I suggest you get there before 10am or you might go home with a sad face and empty hands. The picture attached is from my second trip to Donut Palace.
