First visit...Sunday morning around 8am. Not too busy, fast service, and employees wearing masks (thank you). Really nice selection and variety of donuts available. We opted for a half dozen. As for regular glazed mine was quite dense. I kinda prefer a softer bite there. The blueberry glazed cake donut was nice, had a bit of a spice cake take to it. Overall, a good visit. I love this donut shop! It is delicious, quick and convenient! Sesame donuts are my favorite, they are really moist, soft and full of flavor! They stand out compared to other Donut-company Chains, and I like that this company is local. I love that they make their donuts seasonal- in design and color of sprinkles etc. Like, the double-chocolate donuts with sprinkles I had today had an Autumnal-color scheme. I am surprised at how nice the donuts where! I got raspberry, guava and sesame. The donut itself is quite light and fluffy. The filling jams are not super sweet! We came in for a regular dozen ($14.95), which includes everything with a red tag (not pink). There's a pretty large selection! The yeast donuts were nice and tender and not too greasy. The maple frosting was a bit sweet, but I liked the chocolate frosting. Some favorites were the long johns, chocolate roll (glazed cinnamon roll-like yeast donut with chocolate frosting). I'm an adult so I can order donuts for dinner if I want to! And I did... How can that go wrong? I figured a half dozen donuts and two sandwiches. I figured I'd have a croissant sandwich (with egg and bacon) for dinner, one later or next morning and desert donuts. I asked for a fritter and a cream filled for two of them and was open to surprise. What I actually received was two breakfast sandwiches made with over toasted bagels - they weren't horrible but they were overcooked and not what I clearly ordered. For the half dozen donuts...no fritter... They sent two powdered donuts filled with Bavarian cream which were ok. There was a powdered donut filled with raspberry - normally that is a favorite flavor and the donut itself was good but that raspberry gel was just gross - the texture was literally like hair gel and it tasted so over sweet. There was a cinnamon roll type donut, a regular glaze donut topped with chocolate and a Bismarck donut - these three were all pretty good. None blew me away though still seemed almost disappointing after all the bad. With all the great donut shops around I cannot imagine going here again. read more

Wow! This place has gone down, down, down. I've noticed since covid the quality here has plummeted. Not just with the service (though that is awful), but even the donuts. I love Apple fritters, but I don't buy them here anymore because every time I do they are burned on the bottom. I thought this might be a bad batch, so I kept trying them. After the 5th time, I realized they just cook them that way on purpose. The woman who usually helps me doesn't seem to care that she has customers. She never smiles and almost seems irritated that your bothering her. Today I stood there waiting for her to finish putting papers in bag before she would help me. I was the only one in the place and she wouldn't even look at me. The thing that absolutely gets me though is the "up" charging she does. I order a dozen each time and if you pick a donut that is a "specialty" donut, she won't tell you. She just puts it in the box and totals you up with the extra fee. What the what?!? Every time I order a dozen this happens. They charge me for a dozen, give me 11 donuts and then charge me full price for my specialty donut. So I get 12 donuts for the price of 13. I'm sad that it's so hard to find a good donut house anymore. Between the bad service, the underhanded dealings and the actual quality of the donuts declining, it's time to find a new donut place. I really am not much of a donut person. Somehow I ended up in a donut family with a donut child. Weird. This Sesame Donuts is in a busy strip mall with Goodwill, Toshi's, and MY Black Rock drive thru. Well, one of the main three I frequent. This is important because Black Rock has pretty lackluster food options. When Sesame opened my child was super happy. I can get my caffeine fix and she can get her sugary thing. Her fav is the chocolate iced with sprinkles. I will occasionally eat a pineapple fritter or pineapple jelly donut. There's coconut on them and they're not too sweet. It's like a little bit of Hawaii without the rum. I have also gotten an almond croissant and a bear claw before. It's nice there are some non-donut options. They have breakfast bagels that they make painstakingly in a laborious process with several plastic bowls and a microwave. It's a little hard to watch and I feel bad putting the counter person and the other customers behind me through that. They cost about $4 and a big tip for my guilt over causing them such hardship. I have taken the donuts to work before and they were a hit, especially the donut holes. They even have donut holes filled with jelly. That causes great commotion, discussion, and excitement. Goverment job....doesnt take much. Give Sesame a try. It's a local chain and the people are usually friendly. The donut with the sesame seeds, yes there really is one, is pretty good too. Sesame donut? The name had me bypass it on Yelp more than a few times and if it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't find the other locations I would have never showed up here. I mean, Sesame is a plant known for its rich oils or seeds so green donuts came to mind. Upon entering the fresh donut smell gently perfumed my nose. Everything was labeled, separate and decorated so pretty. The store was clean and the woman behind the counter was very nice. We ordered maple bars and cinnamon rolls, one regular and the other cinnamon roll covered in maple. They were the largest cinnamon rolls I had ever seen! The maple bars were super fresh and the cinnamon rolls were just a few blocks behind them. In my opinion this is the second best donut place that I've been to in Portland. Friday, June 1st was National Donut Day and was looking forward to getting my free donut as it says in their website and news articles. However, when I went during the afternoon and asked for my free donut the employee said they ran out as I was clearly staring at rows and rows of donuts in front of me. I asked what she meant and she said they are done for the day (I came in before 5pm and they are open until late in the evening). I left and looked on their website again and it is not time specified. I called the store just to make sure as I was very confused and had two employees tell me different things, one said they are in the process of running out and then she gave the phone to another employee and the second one said they only gave out a certain type of donut for free in the morning. When I brought up that the website says you get a free donut, she said each store is a different owner and this owner decided to just make a certain quantity in the morning. Very disappointing as there was no structure and organization from the employees and owner. Also, there shouldn't be advertising (poster out front of the store) for a free donut as there were no specifics listed online or even at the store if it will not be honored. Better than any donut chain like Dunkin or Krispy Kreme, but I would not personally go out of my way for Sesame Donuts. I came here to fill my apple cider donut craving and got to try a few others. I liked the pumpkin fritter and the guava jelly donut. I like that they have a lot of more unique options and seasonal variety. I should say though that it's hard for me to rate donut shops because there are what my friend likes to call the "real donuts" or "every day working man donuts" - and then there are fancy gourmet $4 donuts. Sesame Donuts is the former, and on that front, they do a good job. The donuts are fresh, large, and fairly priced. The drink menu is small, reminding you of the simpler times, before the fancy donut craze. A small local chain located in Beaverton OR. I had to try something a little low key after having Voodoo and Blue Star the previous two days. Portland Cream Ham & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwich Alpenrose Chocolate Milk I guess, when in Portland, I hade to try the Portland Cream. I really think it's a Boston Cream, but since its Portland, they would rename it something like this. Anyways, it was pretty good. Dough was a little crispy on the outside and it had a good amount of cream filling. The chocolate frosting on top was smooth and the filling wasn't overbearingly sweet. The Breakfast Sandwich and the Chocolate Milk (Alpenrose is based in Portland) were good (remember I just give detailed description about Donuts). Honestly I like simple donut shops like this place. I loved loved my doughnut here! In a strip mall and very unassuming. Originally my coworker and I were just looking for coffee and we got doughnuts on a whim. I maybe the best doughnut of my life, a banana cream! I usually am a plain glazed girl, but something about this was super appealing, It turned out not to be too complicated and not too sweet and was just the best. I called Friday afternoon to pre order custom donuts for flag football snack duty! First I mast say the customer service is excellent, when I asked for a Sunday pick up there was no hesitation even though it was the day off of the woman who does all of the decorating. I ordered 18 pikaxhu Pokémon donuts. I wish I would've gotten a pic but I got so busy I forgot. Was worried I ordered too many but as I pulled them out for the kids the adults were excited by the Sesame box! As I looked around all I saw was a group of people standing in the rain getting soaked speaking about how amazing these donuts were! I was able to save one for myself and it was amazing.
