Our family was having a Thai lunch next door and saw a few families walking by with colorful donut boxes. My hubby has been trying to find a donut shop in the area that has a devil's food with peanuts to no avail. While we were having lunch, he pulled up their website and was delighted to see they do, in fact, offer one! We popped in on a Sunday around 2:00 pm, not expecting much to be left in the case, and were delighted to see a fully stocked case of donut wonders. I wish I had taken a photo, but you can check out others'. The shop is bright, welcoming, and clean. Sadly, they were out of the devil's food with peanuts, but now we know where to come for them! Our daughter got a devil's food with coconut, she got a maple old fashioned for her partner, I got a glazed chocolate with coconut, and my hubby got a devil's food with rainbow jimmies. I presume the owner helped us, based on the glowing reviews here. He was, indeed, warm and friendly. When we got our box of donuts home, I noticed he had put some complimentary donut holes inside, which was a sweet (literal and figurative) surprise. I didn't have a chance to eat my donut until this afternoon. I had put mine on a plate with some plastic wrap, and it was just as fresh and tasty as if I had just picked it up. Ironically, when we lived in the East Bay, CA, our favorite donut place for years was also called Donut King! It feels like the universe is sharing some sweet serendipity with us. As my family and I frequent this place as a guilty pleasure on the weekends, we find ourselves liking it less and less unfortunately. Service is unfriendly, a smile wouldn't hurt every now and then or a "thank you" upon check-out, but mainly, it's what we came for- the donuts. Although the flavors sound amazing, the dough texture misses the mark unfortunately. It's more on the thick side but not thick and soft, moreso thick and just toooo doughy/dry. Icing/toppings are too sweet, so many flavors "sound" good, but the punchline just doesn't land when you bite into it. What a great place! Stopped in after Pho (Nextdoor), and wow! Shop is super nice, display is wonderful and the people here are so incredible. Greeted like a friend or family, they are quick and ready to make donut dreams come true. I got 2 chocolate cream, old fashioned and a glazed for around $8, that's a great price! And, while not a everyday donut consumer, I'd say at least 15-20% bigger than other shops. And quality is top tier. Travels very well, no glaze melt or stuck together. Was next store at the Thai restaurant for lunch, when lo and behold I saw Donut King next door so I had to stop by for dessert. Wow - they have a huge case of donuts and it was FULL when I was there at 2pm (was easier to see the options than the way Sesame Donuts lays out their donuts). Got a few to take home - a buttermilk, a pistachio, and a blueberry old fashioned. Cost was around $8, which seemed a bit steep but it was worth it. The buttermilk was excellent, and I also really enjoyed the pistachio. The blueberry was just ok - tasted a little artificial to me. The staff were really friendly and prompt. Loved the variety of donuts they had, got a hot chocolate, they also hid cold chocolate milk, and strawberry milk, and gluten free options available for donuts!! Not sure why this place has such a high rating... I was looking for donuts in the area and I saw this place had 4.5 stars so I was eager to try them. I walked in and it looked okay and smelt like a donut shop so I grabbed a chocolate and a glazed twist. I could instantly tell they were old just by the stiffness of the donuts when I grabbed the bag from the guy.. I took and a bite and yea.. these donuts have to be at least two days old if not more. They're stiff, not very flavorful, and all around a poor experience. Extremely disappointed. Don't trust the 4.5 star rating. Not sure who they're paying to leave good reviews but they're lying to you. Hopefully they realize selling old donuts is bad for business and just all around lazy. Donut king donuts are good, at least from what I can remember... that is, the non-gluten free variety. The gluten free pistachio donut I recently tried, was dense, bland, and the frosting tasted more of the green food coloring, than anything else. As always, the rest of my family quite enjoyed their donuts. On the same visit into the shop, I picked out and brought home a dozen treats. I encountered a lackluster young man, behind the counter. I was the only customer, and he seemed a bit put out by my being there. The employee's face, body and voice tone were pretty much all saying "harumph", with a side dose of smugness. After paying, the employee pushed my wide open box of donuts towards me, for me to take home. As the employee watched on, I attempted, badly, to close the box... those folds and entry points can be confusing. I couldn't find the right combo for it to close. I kindly, asked the employee how to do it. He said something lines of "you just fold those in to the sides," with no gestures or pointing". That wasn't very helpful; obviously something folded into those sides ;). I have to say, I do have a habit of being a people pleaser - especially throwing politeness and kindness towards situations where someone is making me feel uncomfortable in a costumer service situation. Anywho, I eventually figured out how to get the lid and sides folded inwards, while also somewhat smooshing the donuts. All through this the box was on the countertop, sitting equally between the employee and myself, while he stood watching. In retrospect, the whole thing really was an odd and awkward experience. Why not just help, instead of watching, and seemingly judging/enjoying my ineptness? Why leave the box open in the first place? It feels to me, like there was a power dynamic being played. One where I was definitely on the lesser-being end. I don't know if I was served in such a manner because I'm a woman, my social class, or maybe it was for no reason at all. Family-run, friendly local shop that I would love to return to! They were closing early for Christmas Eve but still let me in as they were shutting down. I picked up a couple donuts and the man behind the counter (The owner? A pure gem? All the above?) let me pick out two more for free! Love that there's a DONUT SHOP that's open "late" for donut standards. The pistachio donut is as prety as it is delicous. Not over-the-top in flavor. And the chocolate frosted donut is a perfectly executed classic. Apparently even the gluten-free vegan donut was a hit. I came here about 5 years ago and wasn't super satisfied with my donuts. Came by again today to give them another try. Staff is absolutely incredible. They are amazing no questions asked. However the two cake donuts I had were just so sickly sweet. It tasted almost chemical like, and we took one bite without being able to finish them. Now I want ti preface this by saying, old fashioned are my favorite and that's pretty much all I order. So the other donuts could very well be amazing. However the ones I got were just way too sweet and it made me feel a bit sick from all the sugar. The coffee was great though and was very welcome after the sugar bomb. Stopped by here because it was conveniently located next to a good pho restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised! I tried the strawberry sprinkled donut and the frosting on this donut is next level. It's like a thicker, fluffier, whipped frosting compared to the hard frosting that most donut shops have. I will definitely be back for this donut and more! Very good, classic donuts! There is a large variety of doubts.I never saw a cinnamon roll with chocolate and walnuts on top! I had an old fashion with maple icing and it was good!! We stopped here after eating next door and seeing their rows of beautiful donuts. Their shop is clean and the young lady behind the counter greeted us with a smile and was very friendly and helpful. We wanted to try all of them but settled on a Bavarian filled maple and chocolate bar with maple drizzle. Both donuts were delicious, fluffy and not overly sweet. The Bavarian cream was smooth and not too sweet at all. I like that they have all of their donuts on display right up front so you're not having to try and look far behind the counter and they were also fully stocked instead of running out like some of the other popular donut spots. Honestly more of a 3.5 but we just weren't blown away. The donuts were fine, not bad, but I don't think we would return. They do have a nice variety of options available for both cake and raised donuts. Service was prompt. We tried a variety - the raspberry filled donut was probably the best.
