I believe all five star reviews require multiple visits to gauge consistency. Here's how I got there for this place. First off, everything is always fresh. You don't get that with the bigger shops that are open longer hours. I expect in a couple of years this place will be like Annie's-sold out at 5:30 AM! I am partial to Bavarian creams - and their pastry cream is the best I've had in the Portland area. What amazed me even more were the Apple fritters. They are usually gross concoctions of sugar and grease but these are lighter and full of flavor. I feel like anyone that can make an apple fritter craveable is winning what they do. Even though it impacts me negatively, it would be great to have people stop by for office runs and buy them up. I would've been so happy to see those donuts in the break room. read more

We went to get donuts for Mother's Day this morning, and wow! The donuts are beyond amazing. They are SO fresh and literally melt in your mouth. The maple and chocolate bars are next level- just a touch of crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. Bonus- they have an assortment of vegan and gluten free pastries! I didn't get to try a donut today because they were sold out and I got there at 10am. But the new ownership was there and they were SO nice and friendly. Ever since moving into the area about a year ago, I've been neglecting in looking for a partner to go with my usually cup of coffee every morning. I finally mustered enough motivation to go out and look for that perfect partner; what better than pairing up a donut to go with my cup of joe. I did a search around the area and came across Tigard Donut. Tigard Donut is nestled in a small and quiet shopping area. From 99 west you need to cross the median from the island which was not too bad since I came here at 8am on a Saturday morning. Upon my arrival I was greeted with a smile and good morning by the owner. Seemed like I may have been one of the firsts to arrive which was a good thing as I've heard the donuts in this place usually sell out. I went with their dozen special in where you get to choose from color-tagged items. I decided to mix it up and ended with what you see in my photo. When I got home I decided to warm up the pallets with donut hole #13 (bakers dozen) which was waiting for me to pluck right out of the box. Yummy! Nice, wholesome and not airy like Krispy Kreme. Perfect texture. The dozen belonged to my son which about 5 minutes later got a loud compliment from upstairs- These are better than Roger's! (Our old donut shop back in CA). Now for my personal review. The ultimate test had to lie with the Apple fritter. I found that fritters tend to be dry on the inside and too hard on the outer. The one from here is an exception. Talk about the perfect fritter; crunchy outer shell, diving into a sweet layer of glaze, into a soft and fluffy tasteful inner swimming in bits of cinnamon apple bits heaven. Not heavy or overly sweet- everything is just right!! Perfect Fritter!! I finally found the perfect pairing with my cup of joe! I have still to delve into the cake donuts and a warm, pig in a blanket I added to my order but I'm pretty sure those will be delicious as well. The only Tigard donut shop that makes the donuts fresh on site every morning. Due to this painstaking process, they have very limited supply every day and often are sold out by 9:30 AM so you have to go early! (Opens at 4:45am!) That's why I only just tried them despite living in the area for years. The donuts are soft, heavenly, delicious! This is the only place I will go now! They fill them to order with Bavarian Cream, Jelly, etc. and the cream stood up to my high expectations. They use real chocolate in the icing too. Love the bars, maple, and filled the best. The only reason 4-stars instead of 5 is this place desperately needs a remodel inside--very dated and to expand production so they have enough inventory to be open longer hours. Also the apple fritter (albeit the ONLY donut we didnt like) came recommended yet was so filled with grease on its bottom (like somehow missed being put somewhere to drain after being pulled out of the grease?) that 3 people in my family actually couldn't eat it. The service is also another reason that I patronize this small business. It's owned by Peter and Ellia, a wonderful couple who go above, and beyond to produce fresh, tasty donuts.
