The iconic Voodoo Doughnut! This famous doughnut location was a must visit for me when visiting Portland. Do I recommend visiting it? Well... yes! First of all, you have to know it's in a sketchy part of town that doesn't feel very safe. I would recommend parking as close to Voodoo as you possible can. It's not easy as the location is in an area that doesn't feature much parking. Thankfully, Voodoo employs a security guard to monitor who goes into the doughnut shop, so I guess it adds a little feeling of safety. On our visit, only one party was allowed in at a time to the lobby area of the shop. Before going in you have to cue up in line outside. We went on a random weekday at around 8:30pm and had to wait about 20 minutes to get in. The interior of voodoo is very unique and interesting. When inside you can see all their doughnut offerings. The doughnuts are quite large and on the heavy/dense side. We ordered the Voodoo Dozen and it was a hefty box. To get a good sample of everything I think the Voodoo Dozen is a good way to go. It samples a number of famous donuts. I surprising found the grape donut to be one of my favorites. I suppose if you like grape flavored things this bought also be a doughnut for you! Overall the donuts are good, but I wouldn't call them top of the line. They are a bit over-sweet and they are not delicate. They are, however, very novel and a lot of fun. They make great conversation pieces and will definitely kill your hunger. I really enjoyed my visit to Voodoo and probably would go again!
Stopped by at 7:30am Sunday morning before our flight out. No line at all. The doors are locked because the area is a bit sketchy ... to say the least. The cashier was super patient with us as I was trying to decide what the purchase, including their cute reusable bag. The donuts were delicious later that night when I got home and the next morning - especially enjoyed the glaze and apple fritter!
When in Portland, it feels like you must go to the OG Voodoo Donuts that started it all. Sure we have locations in LA, but there's nothing like going to a place where it all started. I enjoy their chocolate old fashioned and cake donuts way more than their yeast. But if they have some adorably cute and themed yeast donut? Well I'm a sucker and I'm buying Cuteness will always win for me. Though I'm also a classy lady and just feel like the Cock N Balls donut every so often, as well. Their chocolate frosting though is legit! The shop is so fun, something to look at in every direction. They have a ton of merch for sale but also I love their rotating display of donuts. Makes for a fun way to check out their options! I did buy a pink mug with a hole in the middle that is super cool & cute that says, "The Magic is in the Hole" hehe Love their cheeky mantra! Staff is always friendly! There is always a line, hopefully not out the door, but it always moves quickly and staff is ready to help. Long live Voodoo!
Personally I'm not a donut fan. I've visited another location but not this one. I prob won't come back to this one as there's no free parking. There's pay street parking though. I was one of the few customers when i visited. It was a quick visit. I ordered a maple bacon, a Memphis Mafia and an Old Fashion Bastard. They are big but they are also more expensive than other donut shops. They are very rich and sweet. I could only eat a tiny bite of Memphis Mafia (peanut and chocolate chip on top of apple fritter) and that was enough for me. I liked the combination of chocolate peanut butter but not so good on top of an apple fritter. The customer service was friendly. Overall, i think their donuts aren't worth the hype.
I seen so many You Tube Videos and reviews that I had to drop by Voodoo Doughnuts to see what all the hype was all about. It's more of a touristy attraction place. There was a security guard sitting outside of the entrance. The area feels a tad seedy. I was the only customer that walked in. Crowd was outside and got all their goodies. Staff at Voodoo Doughnut were helpful with donuts selection. So many to select from. She was so sweet by going through which doughnut had filling inside. I got the Voodoo doughnut which had chocolate glaze on top with a pretzel stuck in what looked like its heart. It was doughy and had raspberry jelly filling. It was a treat for it hit the spot. There are days when you just want it fluffy, greasy and with fruit jelly. The second doughnut that I got was Raspberry Romeo. It must had been a Raspberry Jelly doughnuts afternoon. Oh Romeo, Romeo where art thou. I placed him in the fridge overnight for breakfast. The next morning the doughnut was delicious for it did not even get hard. Wow! Will definitely come back and try the Mango and glazed doughnuts. There was also tee-shirts and souvenirs that you can purchase with their logo.
We were definitely not impressed. My family loves donuts and when we travel we love to try the well known donut spots. The donuts were very dense and tasted of old oil. The icing was sticky and more like canned frosting than actual donut icing. The premise of the flavors were promising but overall lacked flavor. Worth skipping.
While I have been here before I was with a colleague who heard about it and hadn't gone, so we went on our way back to the hotel. Admittedly, I was a little surprised that they had security out front, but there was no line and we were able to go in right away. They had a variety of options, including multiple vegan ones which were helpful because those were the only ones I can eat. While not pictured, I ordered a maple doughnut with cream yes a vegan version and it was tasty. My colleague ordered maple with bacon. The person who served our donuts was very sweet and while I wouldn't rush to go back there, I appreciate it our experience. I wish they had more options to drink outside of coffee.

The raspberry filled doughnut was superb according to my friend. I loved the maple bacon . These doughnuts will put a spell on you!
As I was walking across the street to grab me some doughnuts I recalled that 1980's song by Whodini "Freaks Come Out at Night" but luckily I've been here before so at 0600 the freaks had already departed to sleep off the alcohol or other mystical wonderful things that they ingest. At this hour there was no waiting in line and was let in by the cashier where I ordered a couple of "tame" items to go. The quality of their items depending when you come can be great or just average but most folks come here after a night of heavy drinking or partying or as a tourist for the first time to see what Voo Doo is all about! During the day, they have a Security Guard to keep the peace as there will be a queue during certain hours. Recommend coming here at least once for the experience.
You should go there! It must go place in the city for tourists. The store is funky, cool, the service is great, and donuts were delicious. Really a good price for a tourist attraction. Take a picture in the mural beside the store. Keep Portland weird!
I've been to Voodoo Doughnuts multiple times but this was the first time I have visited the original Portland location. Our hotel was in walking distance so we stopped here around 9:15pm on a Saturday night. There was a line, which was to be expected but it moved pretty quickly. The line was triple by the time we got to the front. We ordered a few different types of- they were sold out of the apple fritters which was disappointing but not the end of the world. The employee working behind the counter was efficient and friendly. We got the maple blaze, Homer pink donut, old fashioned maple, the Dirt, bday cake vanilla and churro cheesecake. All were yummy! I've had many old fashioned maple flavored donuts but this was the cream of the crop. My second favorite was the Homer donut. I also thought the prices were pretty good, we paid about $27 for our box. Great for late night sweets cravings and to have for breakfast the next day!
This place has a mystical, and delicious aura about it. A place where flour, water, and combine into a transcendent combination. My favorite? Keep it simple and classy, chocolate dipped, raised doughnut. I may do it perfectly every single time. Sure, you can step it up a notch or two with some fantastic local designs and flavors, but why mess with what works!
When in Portland... Last time we were in Portland a few years ago we didn't have a chance to stop by the original Voodoo Donuts. It's honestly just to say you've been to the original store (like going to the original Starbucks at Pike Place even though the coffee isn't gonna be much different than any other Starbucks). Same idea here. I've gotten donuts from the Universal City Walk location so I've tried Voodoo Donuts. They sell merch and yes expect to stand in line to get inside (there's a security dude who handles the crowd control outside). My daughter and I shared a Voodoo Doll donut - it was very sweet - but soft and fresh. I've ticked this place off my list now! The good thing is this location is open until 3am every day which is pretty neat. read more

Try: Bacon Maple Bar and Old Dirty Bastard! Why: Even though I've had Voodoo's multiple times in other cities, I had to try their iconic donuts in Portland! It was a great way to start my morning with a delicious Bacon Maple Bar and Old Dirty Bastard. Lots of flavors and textures just like I remembered. Notes: This location was a block from my hotel so very convenient to walk to. Small shop with no seating but you can eat outside on their wooden bar ledge. I ended up walking to the park to enjoy. Worker was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. read more

I had to make a stop at the famous donut shop in downtown Portland. What a fun place to visit but you will have to be let in if you stop at 6a. Not sure if that's the practice all day long or just in the morning when only one clerk on duty. The homeless still wander the streets but I'm told it's much better. I know security is positioned at nearly every corner in downtown Portland. I felt perfectly safe not that all homeless are dangerous! The place is really cool on the inside with a sample of every donut on display. Yes in that one photo, they have a donut on the ceiling! Ordering was a snap but deciding was another story. Many looked good but I was on a mission. Maple bars and apple fritters. I have had some real good ones so those are my standard. But how could you pass by a donut called "dirty old bastard"? Well I will start with the bad. The apple fritters have plenty of flavor and size but lacked apple chunks of any quality. 3 at best! Maple bar with bacon. Nearly a 4 but the glazing was way too sweet for a maple bar. Bloedows in Winona,MN, you still are the best followed by Randy's in LA. However, that dirty bastard withe the mix of chocolate, peanut butter and Oreo cookies raised the bar. No pun intended. So why a 4. The place was fun, service great and the originality of the donuts raised the score. A must stop in Portland. read more

Yum! Came here as a first stop and got a churro cheesecake, Portland Cream and a original glazed. The glazed was by far my favorite as the cream erupted in my mouth and the churro cheese cake was abundantly sweet. The glazed was so light and fluffy and was a dream come true. Store was really sweet. We were able to bring doggy in. Cute photo ops inside and out. read more
Food: you can't go wrong with a donut. I got a Bacon Maple Bar, Regular Maple Bar & a simple glazed donut. $15! Service was quick & super polite there wasn't a long wait either. Voodoo Doughnut is where we ended up at night after dinner. We were craving something sweet so we came to Voodoo. There was a security guard at the entryway way so it felt pretty safe. They have a cool display of what donuts they carry at the moment. We picked a small box and shared a variety of donuts. Overall this was my first time having it and I would say they are super adorable!!! Donut-wise wise they are all also unique in flavor! read more

I am not a donut eater, so I did not sample the product. I'll start with that, in the spirit of honesty. I did buy for others, though. There was a meeting at work and I wanted to bring some. When I arrived at 6:15, the place was empty, and marked the first time I'd seen it without a line around the block. They were open, but locked for security reasons, but was let in quickly. The placed smelled great (often donut shops do not), and there was an explosion of colors at the counter. I ordered a "surprise me" premium dozen. The order was filled quickly with variety. At work, they disappeared quickly with rave reviews, especially the voodoo doll-shaped one (a personal visual favorite: gotta love the pretzel sticks through the heart), the blueberry, the big pink "Homer Simpson" donut (so-named by the eater) and the maple bacon bar (note to self: get three of those next time). read more
I have been thinking about Voodoo Doughnuts every morning since last week. I went early around 7:30AM and was surprised to see that there was no crowd. I ordered 2 donuts, an apple fritter and their maple bacon bar. The total came out to be around $9. Apparently they are the first to introduce bacon maple donuts to the world, so I had to try and I also never had it before. I love the combination of savory and sweet. The apple fritter was so big, filling, delicious, and my favorite part was eating the edges of it! There were so many donuts on display and I wish I could eat all of them! The options they have are very unique and some names/designs are hilarious. Service was great! The door was locked and an employee quickly came out to open it. There was a sign that said wait for the door to open, probably for safety because this location is in a kind of sketchy neighborhood and sometimes they get unwanted visitors. The building is easy to spot because it's so pink and they have a bright neon sign. I also noticed that they have a window for orders and that is perfect for late night donuts! read more
First time trying Voodoo doughnuts and I really enjoyed the selection of doughnuts. I came in around 7pm on a Saturday and was nervous they would be out of many doughnuts, but they had everything still in stock. The cashier was friendly and let me customize one of the donuts I ordered. Taste-wise, it was great. The Memphis donuts was a tasty banana fritter with chocolate chips and peanut butter drizzle. The Boston crème pie donut was very tasty as well, with a marshmallow filling. The inside of the store was small and there wasn't any seating, but there is a ledge outside to eat your donut if need be. read more

You'll wait, you'll question your sanity, and you'll swear you're never doing this again. But then you finally hold that pink box in your hands, and it's like the universe pats you on the back and says, "Congrats, you survived." Inside are doughnuts that look like they were dreamed up by a mad scientist with a sense of humor and honestly, bless them for it. In the end, Voodoo Doughnut isn't just a bakery; it's an experience messy, chaotic, occasionally questionable, but absolutely unforgettable. I had been to voodoo doughnuts before while in Denver. So I knew that this would also be a perfect spot to get ben a birthday doughnut as well. With their unusual flavors and styles, not to mention shapes. I chose two different doughnuts to take back to the hotel for him. One I thought would be funny to actually make him be the voodoo doll. When I got to the hotel I asked the front desk if they happened to have a singular birthday candle that I could have to put into Ben's donut. They said they would look around for me and within minutes, they came out with a candle so that I could light the donut for him since I wasn't getting a cake. So fun. He, of course, loved the donuts and it was a perfect way to start out his birthday meals. read more

Been here a few times! Great selection and hours work very well! The mango tango was the crown favorite this trip! Late night you just get served through a window. The guy serving was efficient and nice! The decor is pink themed and they sell merch. It can be a little of a rough area as far as people on the sidewalk and surrounding area but it is worth checking out! read more
I came to Voodoo mostly because it's kind of the thing to do while in Portland (and conveniently across from Portland Is Weird landmark). The surrounding shops are charming, and give you a feel of "New Orlean-ish", with walkway that leads to Saturday's Farmers Market -- nice path with painted red roses on the asphalt. That said, the parallel street nearby is a bit rough around the edges, with some homeless folks hanging around and the area feeling somewhat dirty. It's also strange to see security guards by the doors of various businesses. The inside decor as expected is semi-gothic with friendly cashier. The experience is good, got my pink bag filled with two donuts. My advice is to visit before the queue builds up. We got her around 9AM so was 6 people deep. Overall, a unique donuts shaped charters of ghosts, goblins and other different concoctions, including a simple old fashioned donut -- which most often looks cool but tastes overly sweet (at least for me). read more
Just as funky and fun as all of their other locations. They do have security. No waiting when I went, but I could see on certain days or times where there could be a line. They are famous for their over the top crazy donuts. They have all of their Halloween specialties right now and fall flavors. One of my favorites is the Butterfinger. The ODB is always on the menu, but the peanut butter poltergeist was a special flavor for this time. read more
Came here during early an early afternoon, and the line was long out of the door. But moved fast. Inside the shop is not huge, just slightly bigger than a regular donut shop. We are a box of one of the pre-set selections. Tasted fresh, soft and buttery... delicious, but might be too sweet to some Asian foodies. The creativity they put to the donuts design is plausible, pleasing and attractive. Price are not bad, service was great. The young men took our order was super friendly and positive. The shop was fairly clean and smelled sooo sweet and buttery. Highly recommend. read more

I went many years ago when I visited Portland and I went for the original location And it was definitely as weird and quirky as it seems and yes the donuts were delicious and great! I definitely recommend going and if you live in LA there are locations now like at universal But I enjoyed it The line went quick and they had all the flavors when I went so I got the classic voodoo doll lol and a sticker because I thought it was clever The service was friendly read more
To my FAVORITE donut spot! This is the original one and then they came out with the one in Universal City in LA but one thing is for certain. Both locations are Cool, PINK, and adorable!!! My sister claimed this was too touristy when I was adamant on checking this location out but I most definitely made her drop me off here and ran in anyways! I wish I could have spent more time there but I did get a sweatshirt! The service was awesome as they both have the best workers that are SO sweet, quick, and help you pick out one of their zillion options of donuts. Making them and being around them I'm sure they understood the struggle of not ordering the entire menu and narrowing it down to four. Kudos for that! When I went for this trip I got my very favorite raspberry filled glazed donut, the pink bubblegum donut, the pink sprinkled donut, and the Oreo donut! Oh and how could I forget, their completely slept on hot chocolate! This deserves more recognition the chocolate tastes like it came from gharadellis chocolate factory or somewhere with nice chocolate that is DELICIOUS and the perfect pairing with your sweet treats at Voodoos! Merch is cute too I always get a T shirt or sweatshirt at both locations! While visiting PDX we obviously had to visit the original location of the viral Voodoo Doughnut. It was the middle of a heat wave, so when we arrived, there was absolutely no line. I've heard about the lines being hours long, but we got lucky. There was a security guard at the front door who let us in. The AC was not cold but was still a brief respite from the sweltering heat outside. I was mesmerized by the rotating display of the current specialty donuts that were for sale, and took in all the quirky artwork on the walls. We went with four flavors, but honestly it was sooo hard to decide!! However, since we were only in Portland for a few days and also camping, we didn't want any of the donuts to go bad in the car. (Thankfully, they held up pretty well, but we were glad we didn't get any more than four). All of the donuts were super unique! The flavors shone through the delicious frosting. The dough was fluffy and soft! Each donut was super hefty though, and I'm glad there were two of us to share. We definitely couldn't finish all four in one sitting. Additionally, we are used to having Asian desserts, so they were still pretty sweet for us. Was Voodoo Doughnut worth the hype? Yes, BUT not enough to stand in line for hours. Again we got super lucky that there was zero line and we were the only ones in the store. We would return to try other flavors when we go back to visit Portland, but would definitely pass if the lines are crazy next time. read more
I have visited Voodoo Doughnut a few times..over the past 12+ years, but never wrote the review about it! Finally, after my recent visit, I finally worked up the effort to write this. Overall, I thought the shop was really more for tourists. I remembered back in 2012, the line used to be so long! But I guess now that Voodoo Doughnut is more accessible via other stores and even out of state (ahem, Seattle, WA), the line didn't seem to be as long as I remembered. Overall, I thought it was ok. I have tried probably 20+ variation of their donuts before...but I feel like the taste didn't necessary stand out. It just happened to be a quirky institution for tourists to visit to complete their Portland visit experience in my mind. This last round of visit, I sat at one of the benches outside of the shop finishing my donut next to a guy who was scarfing down doughnuts. Once he saw I ate some donuts...and after he finished it...he turned around in a friendly way and said "hmm...not as good as you thought it would be, huh?"...that kindda summed it up how he and I felt about the doughnuts I guess. But...go there if you have never been and see some quirky flavors/variations they have. The taste though...to me was just plain donuts. Nothing too special unfortunately. read more

I was so excited to try this place. Unfortunately I was so disappointed. The doughnuts were under done and not that great and incredibly over priced. The filled ones were not completely cooked through. Uncooked dough and lacked flavor. The banana crème one was awful. Imitation banana flavoring so gross!! And if you're gonna call something cheesecake, could it at least taste like cheesecake?!? SUCH A BUMMER! read more

No free parking downtown, even paid around on the street is by luck. Go to the east burnside location.

If you look thru the pictures there is a photo of the food allergy warning as well as one of the menu showing that peanut butter, peanuts, and tree nuts are used within and you enter/eat at your own risk.
