This is our local WinCo and I like it better than some of the other ones around town. I think the key is knowing when to go. Mornings are great, not too busy, as are late evenings. I appreciate their hours, they've saved us in a pinch. One time my partner was having a mild allergic reaction and we were out of benedryl. It was like 1am. Regular pharmacies are closed, but WinCo saves the day! The aisles are stocked well and I don't get that chaotic feeling when I go to other WinCos. I used to shop at Safeway but then I decided to check out WinCo one day to comparison-shop. Wow! What a difference. I was literally spending at least $20 MORE a week at Safeway for the EXACT same items. PLUS WinCo has an AWESOME bulk section (including bird seed, unsalted peanuts, and sunflower seeds for the birdies I feed). The store is very clean and quite large so it takes a couple of visits to figure out where everything is. The only thing I saw "wrong" with the store is their manager, Esther. I was having a very nice conversation with one of my favorite cashiers. There was no one behind me so I was not in a rush. This Esther not only RUDELY interrupted us but she also barked orders at this cashier. I felt so badly for her. Esther needs better managerial skills. Ughhh!!! Warning!!! This is a cash or debit card type of place. Do not try to pay with credit cards. These type of transactions help keep costs down. Winco is one of my favorite places to shop. They have great prices and you do not have to buy items in bulk. This place doesn't look fancy but it is not dingy either. The pizzas/calzones here are amazing and at a great price. I also found tofu desserts and they taste great (produce section). You can find a lot of items here that they don't sell anywhere else. Don't know if it's the time I go in the morning, but they never have any chicken thighs or breasts in stock or some other items. Some of the workers are rude as well, block whole aisles while stocking and have no consideration for paying customers. Carts are always strewn about in the parking lot because there is no collector. Great prices, Fresh fruit and veggies are top notch! They have a wonderful selection of refrigerated salad dressings a dollar or more less than Freddie's and Safeway. I snagged some fresh bakes jalapeño cheddar bagels along with some seasonal cereal favorites. The lines weren't to long today. I don't mind bagging my own groceries for the savings I receive when shopping here. If you bring your own bags they give you 5c off with each bag you bring in to pack your own items into. Otherwise they do charge 5c like everyone else does these days. This store is usually very clean and neat and employees have been friendly even when I run in during off hours. I'm not a huge Winco fan but sometimes our regular stores don't have what we need. I carpool once a week to do grocery and other shopping so this Winco is on the way. The place can be crowded and the checkout lines can be long and slow. And of course they only take cash which is a major negative for me. But they do have pretty much everything you'd ever want so plus one star for that. Minus one star because Winco just isn't a very pleasant shopping experience. read more

This is one of the nicest Winco Foods I have been to in terms of organization and cleanliness. My husband and I happened to be in the area so we just zipped in and out for a few things we needed. I am super jealous too - folks who shop here a lot I envy the parking lot. Our close one to home has numerous other stores right by and it is just a far more "centralized" store so the parking lot is a nonstop shitshow whereas this one was a breeze seriously at a peak time of the day. I was in shock! Also, the plants selection out front was amazing and everything was not all picked through. **WC** Winco stores are great for wheelchairs - no rugs and they clean their floors nightly so smooth sailing around bigtime. We dropped by Kohls next door and figured while there we would just go to the Winco. Instead of transferring into the car with a short drive over and the transferring out again I just rolled myself over and I actually beat my husband to the door! Their handicapped parking is a touch strange because their parking spaces are set a bit back further than I see at most stores but I did not mind it - the whole lot, including the stores and such nearby is all pretty flat making it a breeze to get around! read more

First time visiting this place and BOY was I pleasantly surprised. They have a wide assortment of items and you don't have to really buy in large quantities like a Costco. I didn't take a picture, but definitely my daughter will be shopping here quite often as it seems to have everything she needs. It is a cash or debit card place so NO credit cards are excepted. Also, there are EV charging options near this WinCo Foods, so if you're an electric vehicle owner like me, check PlugShare, there are ChargePoint EV charging stations as well as Volta EV charging stations all within walking distance of this WinCo Foods. This WinCo has the standard fare of departments, from produce to grocery, to meat, to bakery, to bulk foods, to frozen, beer, and of course the budget-priced cafeteria with pricing on-par with that of Costco's food court. I come here regularly for when I don't want to shop at Fred Meyer, especially when I can find that same item sold at Fred Meyer for cheaper here at WinCo Foods. For those that do not know, WinCo Foods is a majority employee-owned American supermarket chain based in Boise, Idaho with stores across many states, mostly clustered across the western side of the the USA. I like that the price signage at this WinCo Foods showcases the comparative prices of other grocery retailers like Walmart or Fred Meyer, directly on the signage itself. This is useful for price compares especially if you are shopping on a budget. Sometimes I do a spot-check compare to the Fred Meyer mobile app where I can pull up real-time pricing just to ensure that the price compare on the signage I see at WinCo Foods is indeed accurate or not. For the most part it is. Plenty of parking in this shopping center, and there is an ATM in the front left of the store by the customer service counter. Also, bring your bags or start paying the $0.05 for paper bags. Per Oregon House Bill 2509, all grocery retailers by January 1, 2020 are required to ban plastic bags and start charging for paper bags. So, tread lightly if you see Yelp users blasting grocery retailers in Hillsboro (or really, any Oregon city in the next 60 days) over the charging of paper bags. That's entirely normal and as mentioned earlier, a legal requirement per House Bill 2509. read more

Large bulk bins area, great cheese selection and the have their own bakery with some pretty yummy looking bagels. Only reason I gave it 4 stars it their produce section is kind of small. WinCo #40 on Butler in Hillsboro is my "go to" store for 85% of grocery needs. Their prices are especially good and the selection is abundant. I also place large special orders for a local church. The lead clerks, the checkout clerks, the produce and meat managers know their business and try to have fresh items on hand. It's a crazy time to run a grocery store, and sometimes there are mistakes. I've always found the employees are willing to work with me to make things right. I also appreciate that WinCo is an employee owned store. And no, I don't work there, but I have a family member in the WinCo stores in another state. At any rate, for price, selection, responsiveness, open 24/7, located a 10 minute drive from home, WinCo #40 is "my place". And yes, I do shop other places, too. Occasionally I use Grocery Outlet, New Seasons, Trader Joes, Fred Meyer, Safeway and Whole Foods, but no other store beats the whole package of WinCo. read more

Winco is a fantastic grocery store. The prices are unbelievably low and they have got some great products. Produce is fresh, comparable to a lot Fred Meyers, but you do need to make sure you check what produce you pick up sometimes (as you should be doing when dealing with perishable items anyway). They have a pretty good selection of grocery items and the bulk section is fantastic. It's the best place to get nuts and fresh peanut butter. I'm always surprised at my bill when I leave because it's so much lower than a similar basket at New Seasons. To top it all off, Winco is open 24/7 and was even open during the last few snow storms we had when everywhere else was closed. read more

Winco has always been my go-to place for groceries, as their prices and selection can't be beat. However, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I'm very conscious of my health and safety. I'd also like to get our economy back to normal as quickly as possible, and understand the importance of minimizing the spread of disease in order to do that. So, I am paying attention to whether local businesses share my concerns. Unfortunately, Winco in Hillsboro doesn't seem to care about its customers. On a recent trip, when the Governor and the CDC are recommending that grocery store employees wear masks to protect their customers, I noticed that only about half of Winco employees are doing so. I asked Winco management about this, and their response was that they are only willing to follow the minimum safety requirements mandated by law. When it comes to safety and health, I'm looking for a store that is willing to do more than just the minimum required by law. I'll be looking for merchants that take these matters seriously. read more

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that Winco can be a pain in the whatnot. Due to prices, this is my main grocery stop. I had to go in this afternoon and got the best surprise: Winco now has a sushi chef. I usually turn my nose up at grocery store sushi- You never really know, and most places for some reason leave loose ginger and wasabi out and touching each other on the plates. A real bummer if you don't like one or the other. Not only was he making fresh rolls while we watched and giving up samples, they had everything in the cooler looking perfectly fresh... And individual packets of all condiments associated with sushi. After tasting one of his samples I knew what I was having for dinner tonight. I got the rainbow roll and nigiri combo. The salmon and tuna were amazing, and the rolls were perfect. The ginger was more yellow than pink in color and not as good as I had hoped, but it was worth it to not have wasabi fumes all over everything. I was considering blowing off the store run again; its pretty awesome to get a treat for being responsible. read more

So I am a newbie to Winco! My coworkers finally talked me into going after making fun of my grocery bill. Timing is everything! I cannot be here during a rush! While the checkers are fast and people are helpful the aisles are jammed packed! Prices are very fair and the lowest I've seen on almost all items. I find it cheaper to buy personal and home care items from Walmart or Target using my 5% off! You can buy almost anything in bulk!! We were very impressed with the candy section! There is a large variety of all items! I start my grocery shopping here and move on to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods for the items they don't have. I do like this place, really I do. I also worked here for 3.5 years when I first got married to my wife. They have great prices, good selection of items and are reasonably clean. But the quality and type of people that shop here make for a hostile and anxiety ridden experience! Sometimes I feel like I have to take shower when I get home and if it's late at night I feel I have look behind me to make sure nobody is gonna jump me! Stay away if it's the first of the month.... My husband I and have been struggling to cut our grocery bill for a while. Coupons just were not doing it. My husband kept telling me to go to Winco, and I finally gave in. I learned quickly that there are better hours to go than others due to the crowds of people that shop here. But I also learned that Winco is an amazingly well, stocked discount grocery store, selling many, if not all of the things I need on a regular basis. We cut our grocery bill in half shopping here. (From $700 to about $350) Produce is usually always fresh and shelves well stocked. Remember, though, that people shop here for the prices. Not the customer service. Prices are cheap for a reason. Less staff, means less overhead. You bag your own groceries and you may find it hard at times to find staff to assist you, but they are around and they are nice enough. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Take the discounted prices and deal with the drawback of less staff. read more

I just moved to OR from CA and have never been to a Winco before. I LOVE this place! The bulk food section is so much fun! On 3 occassions I needed help with something and all 3 times the employees were very nice and knowledgeable. The cashiers have been okay; not always the friendliest, but not rude either. I see a lot of complaints about not being able to use a credit card. I dont really see a problem with this considering they do take debit cards. I suppose if you're a person who relies on credit card use this may be a problem...but then again, if you rely on credit cards then you should shop here to save money! PROS: Inexpensive Bulk Food Section esp the SPICES!! Credit for bringing reusable shopping bags Recycling box at entrance for old plastic shopping bags Although I have not used it, there is a recycling station to bring bottles and cans for up to $10 (I believe this is a $10 store credit). I used to live closer to this winco and I had such an awesome turn out of an experience I had there. I forgot my wallet in the cart in the parking lot and didn't notice I had left it till the day after. I called the customer service number and thank goodness a great samaritan or employee found it and brought it to customer service. When I got there all my stuff was all in place. WinCo Foods is open 24/7, even on holidays! Fresh Produce! Questionable Meats! Can't go wrong with Costco sized items though! If you plan to spend a lot here, be prepared to fork out the CASH because plastic isn't accepted here. It's a love-hate visit with this Winco. Why? I love that they are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I hate that the parking lots are always full. I love that they are always stocking the place with fresh produce, meats and products. I hate that customers are leaving their carts in the middle of the aisle. I love that the prices are a BARGAIN! As far as prices go, Winco will be cheapest on about everything. There are, however, a few random items that are priced higher than other places. Items also change prices all the time, which can be irritating. The employees are mostly nice. I usually always get an extremely nice or an extremely rude cashier. Cleanliness could be better. But I'm sure being open 24 hours it's tough to keep up with. My favorite thing about WInco is that the gluten free products all have a little tab marking them near the price. And there are quite a few items here that I can only find at places like Whole foods or New Seasons. It's always a long line at the register though so be prepared! read more

The only thing I can think of as why people like going is because of how cheap the groceries are there. That's the only thing that is good about it. Being a former employee I know a little bit more about the place then most. The managers treat their employees like crap. I used to work by bringing in the carts as well as the recycling center. It's a joke you bring in your cans, glass bottles, and plastic and the most money you can get back is $10. What a joke! The place is a mess as well. There is absolutely no organization to the store at all. The recycling area smells disgusting, the restrooms are never clean, the lines are always long, it takes way too long to bag your own groceries, and lastly the whole company is too cheap to take credit cards! Their explanation is that it keeps the prices down on groceries because they don't have to pay the credit card companies. That is the worst excuse I've ever heard. read more

Winco is a great place to shop. When I lived out east, I remember reading an article about it. It was referred to as a Wal Mart buster. I can believe this. I would rather shop here than Wal Mart any day. The aisles are wide. They have a nice selection of bulk food and candy items. Their meat and seafood prices are low. I would only ding their bakery....but hey you can't be everything. Bring your own bags...you have to bag yourself (they do have bags though). No credit cards but they accept debit cards. read more

The one thing I don't like buying here is their fresh meat and deli sliced meat. They quality is so poor and doesn't last a day in the fridge. Good quality meat always lasts longer. While yes, the groceries are cheap and it is a fairly clean store,(minus the millions of boxes for stocking throughout the aisles) the people IN the store are crack addicts. The employees seem to hate their job & the people shopping there are either using food cards and can't use a complete sentence for nothing, or it's a first timer that doesnt understand winco doesnt take credit cards, nor do they pack your groceries. Curiously, I'd never been to this particular Winco, despite having driven by about 50 million times and, more recently, moving close by. It's identical to other Winco stores I've been in. Dirty, busy (oh man is it busy), very well stocked (and being continually stocked) and a good deal. Prices at Winco can be 25-33% less than other grocery stores on lots and LOTS of items. It's worth braving the crowds and the inconvenience. And hey, there's fast food nearby! Sonic, Arby's, Burger King and Del Taco to name a few. The place rocks for prices. Yes you have to bag your own. So what, I am saving a ton over the major grocery stores. The store can get crowed at times and may not have everything you need or want, but you can save money here and get those special items elsewhere. Some one mentioned problems with coupons, I've never had that problem, so they must have gotten a cranky checker. Some will truly go out of there way to help you and some need to just smile and speak up!
