I want to start off by saying that donuts are the sweet that I always can't help but cave into.. I've been to quite a few donut sports in Portland, Tigard and Beaverton but the donut king is hands down the best. You can learn a lot about a donut spot by eating a classic glaze. These guys hit it right on the head when it comes to the thickness, the texture of the dough and the sugar ratio. Ordered the 3 fancy and 3 regular donuts. DoorDash delivery. Honestly, the only one I'd get again was the cinnamon roll. The ratio of icing to donut was way off. I hate to be like that but a huge airy donut or a thick cakey donut that has a tiny amount of icing on it just isn't super satisfying. Picture looks like there's more icing on the sprinkled one then actually is. Cinnamon roll was really good, moist and the maple icing was fantastic. read more

The sign by the road doesn't serve them justice either as it is faded and it takes a good eye to read it. I was cruising by to pick up some Thai food and decided to get a few donuts. I asked for 2 dozen donuts, but not realizing there are "standard" and "premium" - so naturally he packed 2 doz of the most expensive without clarifying the pricing. so the order was $50 and he was miffed that I did not tip. I really felt fleeced. And honestly, the one donut I ate (a premium old fashioned bar with glaze) was meh and I tossed it without finishing it - the glaze was overdone and mushy in the creases. The donuts are fresh, delicious, and jumbo-sized! They are not too pricey and quality is great! They were a little too sweet for my taste but I enjoyed them paired with Donut King coffee. The donuts here are usually very fresh, large, good variety offered and the prices reasonable. It's a family owned business which I love and the owners (husband & wife) typically work the counter helping customers. Both are very nice. But, on my last visit, when the owners were apparently out of town, I encountered their 20 something son and his friends hanging out in front of the store. They were loud, obnoxious and blocking the entrance door. The son invited his friends into the store and he offered them all free drinks from the cooler and made the employee working there give away donuts to them. I got the distinct impression that the employee wasn't suppose to give away free stuff, but was pressured into it by the son. I hated seeing someone being taken advantaged of. I got a cinnamon donut a powder donut, chocolate with peanuts, buttermilk bar and a blueberry fritter and a bear claw. When i told the owner it was my first time here he let us get a free donut! I got a cherry fritter and it was bomb. If you like fritters you need to please check this place out cuz the blueberry fritter was also amazing. Great selection and they've tossed in an extra donut both times. Lots of variety, interesting flavors of fritters, and everything looks delicious. I'm a fan of the basics: maple bars, old fashioned glazed, cake donuts, and fritters, but sadly everything tasted stale. Decided to give them another chance on a Sunday morning when I anticipated things would be fresher. Still kinda tough and chewy, plus this time there was some sort of weird aftertaste. Donut King has basic donuts done right. We tried a maple bar and a chocolate glazed custard filled donut from here. The maple bar had a good maple flavor and the dough in both donuts was soft and chewy without being too oily. The custard was probably on the better side but I still struggle with the sweetness of American custard. The chocolate glaze was your typical chocolate colored, super sweet stuff. I wish more places would just use a chocolate like at Mister Donuts in Japan, but for a standard American style donut, I think Donut King does a good job. We would probably come back when in the mood for a simple donut. I might opt for the maple bar or an old fashioned next time. They also had some apple fritters and blueberry fritters which were looking pretty good. read more

Can I say blueberry delight? I have been on the quest for the perfect blueberry fritter. While Sesame Donuts has them, they only do at one of their locations which isn't particularly convenient. I've wanted a blueberry fritter for like a week and I typed into Yelp hoping I'd get lucky and did I come across a gem of a place. Donut King had a TON of blueberry fritters AND they had blueberry cake donuts. It's really hard to say which I liked more, but I honestly didn't have to decide because they have both. They also have a raspberry fritter which may happen on my next trip. This place has 0 ambience and despite being fairly large, I can only remember a single table, so don't plan on eating here. The man working the counter bemusedly responded to my questions and overwhelming delight from so many options. I will definitely be a regular. read more
