I want to give the rude disrespectful establishment 0 stars...I order a Catfish Sandwich that came with fries on wheat bread..When i got to work and started eating the meal and realized that half of the fish was uncooked...i immediately called back to them tell them about it and the young lady on the phone told me to come back after work and get a refund when i get off work. I come back at 6pm and an older very angry woman that was the cashier told me i should have checked my food before i left...she also told me that the order came with more fish(which it only came with 1 for $10.10) then she was corrected by the cook as to how many pieces comes with the order (1), and that i ate half of it do i want $2 back. I felt very embarrassed, because she was being very loud that everyone started staring...i would never ever come back to this place and wouldnt recommend any one to go there. The food was very bland and the service is horrible. I visited Don's once and had take-out once and was disappointed both times. First off I don't like the was the food is opened, no guard of any kind against coughs. I don't care to have people reaching over for take out with their outside coats and hats on and the people who sit in and take time to remove their outside gear share the same area. (My pet peeve). It was buffet style but I didn't care to eat after the first plate and I live for buffets. There were way too many stems in the collard greens, the yams were too sweet, the ox tails had extremely too much fat on them and they were not cooked properly. The ox tails were like rubber bands. The Mac and cheese was not prepared in melted cheese sauce and baked.It was just cheese melted on noodles not getting the full flavor of baked mac and cheese. Won't go back, sorry! read more

I live near the area of this diner and I only buy breakfast or sandwiches from them so this past Friday after a night of parting on Thursday I decided I wanted some soul food so I called my order in. I ordered turkey wings, collard greens, Mac n cheese, and yams. Well let me tell you I was not happy. My turkey wings was tough, no cheesy goodness from the Mac and cheese greens were on the sweet side but the yams was okay So I had to reconstruct my whole meal. I wrap the wing in foil to finish cooking them, add some salt,little butter, and extra sharp cheese to Mac and put it in the oven. I do not know if it was a bad day for the chef, but I will stick to just breakfast or a sandwich because that food was not what I expected at all. The food here has been pretty good since new owners took it over. The prices are also very reasonable too. The soul food buffet on the weekr d is sooo good. Everything is seasoned very well. There is a flaw however, the service. The waitresses never smile and take forever to come and take your order. They need to take a guest services class or something. Went on a Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning. Was in the mood for some REAL food after work and had heard of Don's having soul food 24/7. Ordered turkey wings and collard greens with a side of rice. It was DELICIOUS and they gave 3 whole wings when most establishments only give you 1 or 2 max. Decently priced. My only complaints are the fork placed at the table for me to eat with was dirty with old food on it. Kind of turned me off for a minute. And also the service was meh. Not really attentive. My server was having a million conversations throughout my WHOLE visit. Keep in mind it's 2am and I'm just wanting to eat and leave. I had to physically get out of my seat and put my coat on to signal I was ready to go, give me the check! I asked for a refill of my ginger ale TWICE to no avail. I loved dons but my husband vowel to never eat there again. One day we ate there and had catfish dinner and the sample platter we both got sick and was throwing up for days. Ever since than he will never eat there again. We felt like it was someone who was sick that made the food or someone hands were nasty or even the food was old or spoiled. Great food and service!! There aren't many places where you can sit down and have a fresh cooked meal for two adults for under $20! Definitely a diamond in the rough... Will be trying the weekend buffet next time. read more

I've been here before and the buffet was much better. The ribs ,chicken, fried okra and salmon were over cooked. Probaly left over from sat's buffet. The squash, sauteed green beans were on the money! I will try again, because they have done right by me before. Service was good for letting me know how to navigate the buffet line. One of the best soul food spots I've ever been to and not to mention one of my favorites: I was here yesterday with my mom and she had the buffet while I wanted something off the menu and knew automatically what I wanted: whiting fish with grits with scrambled eggs and rye toast which was sooooo good being that I was craving it really bad after seeing a show at NJPAC that was pretty for it being two hours long but as far as Don's diner goes the customer service and atmosphere was excellent and our waitress Julissa was very attentive and even gave me extra grits because she forgot to bring my rye toast but she brought it along with my grits which I didn't know that she was gonna do so she got extra tip for that but all in all I'll definitely be coming back again maybe next time for breakfast because more restaurants and diners need to start serving grits anyway imo but definitely five stars for sure read more
