    Jerk Chicken

Forget everything you thought you knew about comfort food. From the second you step into Pit Stop Barbecue and Restaurant on Central Ave., you're not just in a restaurant--you're transported. The first thing that hits you is the smell, and it is absolutely sensational. It's an intoxicating, soul-stirring aroma of smoke and spice that pours from the heart of the kitchen: massive, glorious brick ovens that burst with more personality and character than most entire city blocks. You aren't even at the counter yet, and your stomach is already shouting with joy. This is the immediate, irresistible promise of authentic, slow-cooked perfection. And the warmth doesn't just come from the ovens. The entire place radiates a comforting, familial energy. The chefs greet you with a warmth that makes you feel less like a customer and more like a cousin who just stopped by for Sunday dinner. This is the very essence of what makes a true Jamaican spot so special--it's all heart. I ordered the jerk chicken, and let me be perfectly clear: it was a masterpiece. This wasn't just chicken; it was a flawless symphony of spices and blends that tasted exactly, precisely, as it's supposed to. It was smoky, fiery, and deeply savory, with that perfect, addictive kick that makes you want more before you've even finished your bite. But the main course is only part of the story. The mac and cheese was a golden, creamy dream that tasted exactly like my own family made it--if my family were award-winning chefs. It was the definition of "food for the soul." To top it all off, the chicken patty was a flaky, savory crown on an already perfect meal, and the entire feast was washed down with the best, most vibrant mango beverage I've ever had. Pit Stop isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. It's a 10/10 knockout of character, comfort, and explosive flavor. Do not walk. Run.

what can I say this legacy continues to get better & better with every visit. I've been coming here for over 20 years and never never had any faults in the quality of food. Love it love it love it the best authentic Jamaican food I've ever had in my life, coastal coast.

I've been eating at Pit Stop for years and it still hits the spot every time. They are right on Central Ave in a little shop. There's no seating inside and there's poster boards with the menu and prices on the walls. The customer service at Pit Stop is like any other Caribbean spot that you go to. You can get a full dinner + leftovers for a little over $20. We always enjoy the oxtails, patties, curry chicken with rice and peas + cabbage.

Finger licking Good food this place has been in the community for decades. Definitely gets you that home cooking feeling.

Part of the menu. They replaced the red sheets.

I love this place. Love it!! Don't be intimidated by the staff. It's hot in there and they are probably exhausted. They work hard!!! Just be patient and speak up. Promise you they want you there. And the food?!?? Best jerk pork in the tri-state!! Ask for extra sauce on top. And I looooove the mac & cheese and cabbage. Patties and soup next trip & the stew chicken. Show these folks (& their customers) some love!! It's always crowded, which tells you it's worth the wait. Great experience!! I'll be back.

Jerk Chicken Mac & Cabbage. Yumm!

GREAT FOOD! Cant front. They take card which is good but the customer service needs improvement. I had called in to order & when I got there my food wasnt ready. I came in 1 hr later only to see that my plate wasnt even prepared. I had to wait for them to make my plate after calling a whole hour ago?? I should be in & out when I get there not waiting another 20 minutes. If it wasnt for that I would give the food 5 stars but your customer service is just as important, Jamaican spot or nor

The jerk chicken was cold and not as spicy as i would expect. Most of the food was cold and needed to be reheated when I got home.

This is a nice authentic hideaway for some Caribbean cooking. Friendly staff and the jerk pork to die for.

I can't put my finger on it but it didn't have a flavor of ANY blend of natural cheeses. I'd know, I'm a cheese connoisseur! Perhaps they use imitation cheese. Simply put, their macaroni au gratin is inauthentic as in no veggies (onions, bell peppers) nor ham or ground beef used either. At least the Diri Djon Djon and Lalo was decent. I've had better Salad Russe. It was either missing onions or salt. The condiment cup of Pikliz is shorter and smaller than the usual 1.5 oz. Most restaurants provide sizes 2 oz and larger and that's how I was able to tell the difference. I never even knew those solo dipping cups came any smaller! Probably so you can ask for more so they can charge extra. Not only do they make sure to cut corners on the Pikliz. Which wasn't even enough to mask their thick, brown, over-fried, DRY and STALE bannann peze that has been sitting out. After they cut the plantains they don't soak in salted water. Bannann peze SHOULD NOT be so thick, should be made-to-order and served hot, fresh, golden and crispy. Just look at their photos and see for yourselves compared to other bannann peze / tostones you've eaten / seen. Then to ask if I need utensils for a to-go order? No ma'am, I'll be using my fingers and eating out of my hands today, thanks for asking. Don't ask, just automatically include utensils in the bag for the astronomic amount you charge for your food. Chain restaurants or even mom & pops all simply include utensils and napkins when preparing to-go orders. Only time to get away with that is when delivering. At which most times customer may decline since they're home / work and may already have those items. Price point - garbage for side of macaroni au gratin I'll let you all be surprised for yourselves on the rest on menu. * If anyone gave this restaurant 5 stars... they're obviously not Haitian and/or their tastebuds are shot.

I didn't see much space for huge parties but be mindful and make the reservation in advance. Went for an early dinner at around 6:00ish and was seated immediately. Service was on point. Now for the food. The seasoning was immaculate. We did try the griot app (not pictured) and it was very flavorful. The Rasta pasta dish was seasoned appropriately and provided a comfortable heat. If you are used to typical heat of pikliz then you may find the spice level was at a mild level which paired nicely with the passion 75. The drink tasted more like a spin on a mimosa but I was wish the passionfruit was from the fruit to bring in the tartness - still good. The cheesecake was pretty standard. The glaze on top balanced out the creaminess well.

We had the short rib empanadas, which were crispy and fully of meat. They were definitely the highlight of the night! The rasta pasta was good, but it came out warm and with few shrimp. The flavors were still excellent, however. The carrot cake for dessert was moist and not too sweet, which I prefer! The space was also super clean and well maintained. What really disappointed me was the service. We had a reservation, but had to wait to be seated even with plenty of open tables. That's normally not a big deal for us, but we had an event to get to tonight, so we were in more of a rush. Someone came to us to ask what water we wanted after 10 minutes of being sat, after which the hostess came back over to us to apologize that our server hasn't come over yet and asked if we would like water. Much more time passes and someone (still not our server) comes to ask us if everything is alright. We explain that no one has taken our order, which she apologized for and took our order for us. She then had to come back over because she forgot to include what protein we picked for our pasta. Finally, our server came over to us. We explained that we had already ordered. More hiccups continued throughout the night, including a long wait for the check, never being brought a dessert menu after asking, etc. I'm not one to complain about service, I just think they could be more efficient. At the time we arrived, there were only a few other tables seated in our area. It wasn't super busy, and there were a lot of people working. We overheard staff whispering about who was supposed to be taking care of us, and it still took time for someone to come over and help us. I think the staff knew we overheard or were disappointed in the service, because our dessert was free, and we received a bread basket as well. I'd love to give them another chance, just maybe not if I have plans after.
