The restaurant is located on a busy street so depending on the time of day you may not have much success finding parking. The culture of the restaurant is definitely more take out than dine in. We were 1 of 2 parties that were dining in and there were about 10+ people waiting around for their takeout. The dining area is rather small and there were only 3 employees working that night ( 1 was taking orders, answering phones, and on the floor !) Don't come here expecting something fancy. The food: they were running out of everything by 6pm on Friday night. Peach cobbler : nope, their signature drink : NOPE, the bread: NOPE I was pretty disappointed. My friend and I ended up ordering the fish email ( Whiting, Mac and cheese and candy yams ) and everything was yummy. So the FOOD is worth it y'all. Drink: No LQ of course and thanks to previous yelp reviews we were prepared to pay for our water ( @Bradford you should really give customers a heads up that water is not complimentary) All in all, the food gets 4 starts but the experience and actual restaurant itself could use improvement in several areas Update: Ordered takeout during Covid-19 and the food was still yummy. You ever tasted something so good it literally brought a memory back. I've had almost 6 different entrees. The way she makes her macaroni and cheese remind me of the way my grandma used to make it. We hosted a party with 80 guests, so we opted to use Bradford Barr as the caterer based on reviews. We ordered a pan of mac and cheese, yams & chicken wings. The wings were incredible, but unfortunately, this is the end of our positive experience. The mac and cheese arrived burned to the point the bottom of the tray was black. The yams were decent but poorly secured which caused the pan to spill onto my sister ruining her jacket. For the cost of each pan ($60ish or so), I expected better quality food and preparation. I love supporting black businesses, but I won't risk using them again for catering. Y other friends meals were very scrumptious. The place was clean, however quite small so don't try to entertain more than 4 if possible. You can bring your own bottle which is a plus. I love my Merlot. Adequate street parking and the food may take a while after order because it's made fresh from scratch. Music was just right. Nah. Save your money. This was a real disappointment and I don't understand the good reviews. Might be family members or friends leaving reviews or paid reviews. The Good: They have good fried chicken wings. The service is good and the place is clean with nice decor. The peach cobbler was also good, loved the crust. The Bad: They charge $1.50 for tap water (yes, you're reading that right). That should be illegal lol. I asked for lemon with the water and was told they don't have any lemons (*side eye*, should have been a clue of what type of dining experience we were in for). Some of the menu items were regularly priced, I expect to pay $15/plate at a soul food restaurant. Others items were outrageously priced, I don't expect to pay $25 for 7 pieces of stuffed shrimp as an appetizer, no sides. The most expensive seafood restaurants in jersey don't even charge that. The Mac and cheese was old and oily. Tasted like it had been reheated from earlier in the day. And it had an earthy taste to it, too much thyme. I didn't even think anyone put thyme in southern Mac and cheese anyway. The candied yams were way undercooked. Not soft. Almost crunchy and the sauce on them was weird. The cornbread (or tu tu bread as they call it) was dry and covered in the same sauce as the yams. Their fried chicken wing combo comes with French fries as a side. When we asked to substitute the sides, they charged extra for the different sides. That's fine, I expected to pay extra for the Mac and cheese. What I didn't expect was an ADDITIONAL charge (about $1) for a custom order on my bill. Aren't I already paying more for the side, what's with the additional charges. To make matters worse, the owner was there bragging about her yelp reviews and planning new dishes for her menu. In my opinion she should spend more time perfecting what she currently had on her menu. Please save your money and time and skip this place. So tonight, I decided to try a local soul food restaurant. When I called Bradfords, the person on the other end described the establishment as "soul food meets fine dining". When my party of 3 arrived, we were met with pleasantries from the proprietor, and received a menu which was a pleasant surprise... and that's when the pleasantries ended as acquaintances of the proprietor arrived and the night went from pleasant to ghetto. The rest of the night was loud, and while likely fun for them, ridiculously uncomfortable for us, their only patrons. The focus went from the serving paying customers to the acquaintances for the rest of the evening, which is evidently the reason for the long wait for food. The buffalo shrimp salad was delicious, albeit a bit salty. The crab cakes were unbelievably delicious. The Ciroc chicken wings, however, were unfortunate! The wings were skimpy and the sauce was nothing as described. And the homemade drink, the Maplewood, was like drinking syrup! I am still looking for the fine dining as referenced when I called.
