During my visit, I experience good customer service; employees are kind and helpful with navigating the menu. For the most part, I opt for Vegan options. Even so, I opt for this eatery because of actually setting out to do so from a time ago. I don't know if there is a time range for certain meals though arriving in the evening, an employee tells me the beef ribs will need one hour. So, I order the pork ribs (crispy beneath, tender and flavorful to the bone), string beans (low-key sweet, juicy), pinto beans (very very mild flavor aside from a sharp saltiness), and corn bread (very light, not so sweet, on the drier side though not dry and unflavorful, quite decent after the meal overall). The sauce is delicious and not syrup-y (a strong grill-wood-smoky sweetness). The establishment has seating for about three people. My first time having this place was about a year ago this same time. Since becoming a customer of theirs I have experienced the good and bad they tend to have from time to time. No rookie to bbq and I can honestly say this place is not bad. There are areas of their menu and etc that can use work but it's not bad. This meal is from a few days ago. The good - portion sizes. The portion sizes are wonderful and they pack the containers to ensure you have a good meal in terms of quantity. - nice sized menu. Their menu is a nice size with different options of dinners, sides, lunches and all. - quick and fast. This meaning, for the most part the wait is always less than 10 minutes. Not because there's no other customers but because the staff is on point. - The rib sauces. They offer 2 sauces (a mild and hot) and I must say they themselves are pretty damn good. In this picture I got their hot bbq sauce with Mac & cheese with yams. The bad- please take these comments as constructive criticism from someone of the community who wants the store to grow and not as a punishment (I'm still going to come back). The Mac & cheese- Again, no rookie to Mac and cheese and I can say I'm not a fan of this particular recipe. So were driving to Atlantic City and were picking up a common friend on our way. Having missed lunch we wanted to grab something quick before our ride to AC. One of my friends suggested this place. There was this long ass line but we decided to wait for food. Apart from selling ribs they do sell other variety of food too but everybody was waiting in the line for those dead awesome pork ribs. They take good amount of time to make those juicy ribs. One can choose from mild or extra spicy sauce which they use to coat the ribs with. Ribs with two sides was just a $10 dollars , I had the potato salad and yams as sides. That was a lot of food for 10 bucks. "Ramshackle" is the first adjective that comes to mind, while discussing this dusty & decaying BBQ & soul food TakeOut place, on Main Street in East Orange. The customer "ordering & waiting" room is dimly lit, with cloudy, ancient plexi walls separating the service area from the patrons. You have to squint to see any of the food that is being served, and practically scream your order, so the owner can hear you ... and vice versa. Large-ish portions of BBQ chicken, stewed turkey legs, ribs and Mac & Cheese are packaged "to go" in old fashioned (outlawed?) styrofoam containers. The lids on our three orders were not closed with any care or precision, not even stapled shut to prevent spilling. A $12 cut up Rotisserie Chicken I ordered barely fit into its container, so the owner tried to wrap the full container using Saran/plastic wrap, but it still leaked all over the plastic bag it was put in, to travel. The food, itself was fairly tasty, although I would highly recommend asking them to give you the gravy "on the side." Otherwise, it's a major mess. The 1/2 rack of pork ribs were very dry and unappetizing looking; but tastier when dipped into the aforementioned container of thick brown gravy. The mac & cheese wasn't terribly "cheesy." And the smothered turkey wings were decent, but were stringy and falling apart. I was disappointed to learn they had run out of cornbread by 7:00 PM, but I opted to pass on the white bread that was offered as an alternative. Next time I will probably try the fried fish, shrimp and chicken wings. Still, getting past the unappealing take out area, and gritty food windows ... ain't easy! read more

On August 1,2019 I decided to go pick up dinner. Upon arrival , I notice that the place is a complete whole in the wall. The place is filthy! I was the next person in line so just as the person in front of me was paying, I looked closer inside behind the counter and see a RAT walk across the kitchen floor. Without making a scene I exited the restaurant. I was mortified! Don't eat here if you want to live. I don't care how good the food tastes. That's a major health violation. I was out walking and window shopping with a friend years ago. We were ready to go in and were walking toward his home, when the greatest aroma of barbeque hit my nostrils! First off, went in this place because I heard they have good ribs. Conversation goes like this: Me: This is my first time here, how much are the combos and what's it includes. When I recruited my GF to my side of the coast, I was excited to show her all the amazing cuisines that the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer. Embarrassingly, we have yet to find really good BBQ out here. Decent BBQ, but nothing mind blowing. Not to say there aren't great BBQ spots in the Bay, just haven't found any that suited our tastes. So of course, on our visits back to New Jersey, she couldn't wait to take me to her favorite BBQ joint. She boasts tender meat and spicy sauce that's sweet but not excessively sweet. I must say, I was not disappointed. This BBQ spot is nestled in the corner of a small and smoky parking lot...smoky for good reason though. A big, old sign points out the otherwise easily missed location. Back to the food: The meat is pretty good, but the sides are less than memorable...but that's better than being memorably bad, right? I give this place 2 stars because I personally went inside once to place an order and saw roaches out in the open crawling the walls. Myself and another patron openly blurted out "are those roaches" and no one batted an eye. I immediately headed to the car and never stepped foot beyond my car in the parking lot after that. The food is good. However, the service is horrible and attitudes of the staff is piss poor. My boyfriend brought me here twice. The first time it wasn't good, but it wasn't horrible. I was visiting relatives in East Orange the other day and before I hit the road for home, I took the opportunity to Hit up McDonalds BBQ for some open pit goodness. The place hasn't changed much since I was last here except they don't seem be be offering as much variety and the signs, they're original mind you are pretty much illegible. That observation is by no means a slam but a testament to the old school originality of the place. Now that that's out of the way lets talk food. I've only ever ordered a slab and a large container of chopped, which they don't seem to offer any longer so, for this trip I ordered two slabs with a pint each of their killer hot and their regular sauces. These aren't those ketchepy (is that a word?), molasses, based sauces the you find all over the place and on supermarket shelves folks. This is a mustard/vinegar based real deal sauce. The hot is damned hot but plenty flavorful and the reg compliments the meat just right. Like I said I ordered two slabs, just over two and a half lbs. of ribs and two pints of sauce and the whole deal ran me $40.00 (That Brooklyn spot place that starts D would have been $57.00 for two lbs. of ribs with 2 small sides, plus tax, The Brooklyn spot that starts with an H would have run $50.00 for two lbs. of ribs,again plus tax. Like I said earlier, McDonalds, unlike the newcomers springing up all over the place serves an open pit rib, no fancy rubs, no $1000,00 plus dollar smokers and no smoke bark . The only seasoning used is salt and pepper so all you taste is the meat and that open pit smoke flavor. If you're in the area and aren't put off by the exterior. i heard about this place so i decided to check it out. The place def lacks visual appeal like the other people have said. ive driven by this place my whole life, never knew it was there. The place looks rundown but ive seen worse. it didnt look dirty, jus old. The place opens pretty late. i believe til midnight, most nights. Now the food? the food was forgettable. The ribs were good. the sauce makes them. The ribs itself, what they gave me barley had meat on them. It just wasnt quality ribs. They were dry too. they just put their BBQ sauce over it. The mac and cheese tasted like a beginner made them. IIII could make better mac & cheese. The collar greens? i shouldnt have bothered. The green beens? Go to Popeyes. The corn bread, which the guy serving us forgot until i mentioned that i get one, was good. But the guy picked it up with his hands. i didnt like that. He was touching money and other stuff. not sanitary there. but ill live. Overall eating their food. i was bored and unimpressed. Especially by their sides.
