I used to love Don Chicken, but it was just really bad today. All of the coating fell off and so the meat of the chicken was exposed to the oil and burnt in several places. It wasn't moist at all. The fries were ok, but the chicken is why I was there and I was so disappointed. The guy at the counter could've been friendlier. He was sitting down and playing on the phone as I walked up. Don Chicken is terrific! This restaurant is brand new, in the H-Mart food court. You have the option of 7 different sauces and if you order a large, you can pick two sauces. I ordered the medium Spicy Soy Garlic chicken wings and got 10 wings for $12 (my tray actually had 11 wings in it though). The sauce was pretty perfect--a little sweet, tangy, and spicy. It had such rich flavor that I think I would've still been happy had it been on average wings. But these weren't average wings! Light and crispy--I made sure to eat all the crispy, golden outer layer of these wings because the fried layer was just so good. The chicken quality was consistently good from piece to piece too; there were no issues like you'd get at some other fried chicken places. And the chicken was so moist! The wings also came with a small cold container of chicken-mu, pickled radish. Very pleasant to eat in between bites. They also give you some gloves so you don't make a mess. First time here, I got the original crispy chicken. The good: Skin has a nice crisp with juicy and tender meat. The pickled radish is a good compliment to the hot fried chicken. Flavor is pretty good for regular version. Menu is simple and service is quick and friendly. The bad: The skin is just the right crispness but it's hard and chewy after the first chew. The fact that the 2 people working there at 3PM on 8/6 were rude, visibly annoyed, and not helpful whatsoever - it makes the good chicken, not that good. No hi, no hello, no nothing. Been here a couple of times in the past couple of months. Food is pretty darn good, the chicken is great! Close to what we had in Korea so definitely on point there. The fries are solid not amazing but solid. Calamari though is not the best, definitely would not buy that again which is why I'm dropping a star. Service it's a food stall/court so you only interact with the person at the counter and it's busy so you will wait about 15-20 minutes for the food, don't expect it to pop up right away. Seating is a pain but thats the food hall atmosphere. No drinks so make sure you go to the other side of the food stall to get your drinks. I ordered via Doordash, and upon arrival I notified her I had a pickup order. I could not hear nor understand her response, so I asked her to clarify. This place is where donkey mo's used to be. While they have some of the same items, the chicken is nowhere as good. Yes, it was served hot and crispy, but the boneless chicken was dry (over cooked) , under sauced, and flavorless. There is obviously no brining process, marination, or pre seasoning of the chicken. All of this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that the sauce is thin to the point that it runs off the chicken instead of coating it like it should, and the sauce itself is under seasoned as well. Garlic soy sauce did not taste of garlic or soy. It honestly tasted like watered down hoisin with honey in it. I miss donkey mo's. If you are hoping this place will scratch the itch... Have been to Bonchon and loved their fried chicken. I'd say this place is just as good, especially for a smaller space. I got the medium-sized soy garlic drumstick set--it includes 5 drumsticks and pickled radish. The size of the drumsticks was very satisfying, I felt like I definitely got my money's worth. I think the skin is a little more wet compared with skin at Bonchon; it seems like they add a little bit of sauce after frying the chicken. The skin is still pretty crunchy, though, so no complaints.
