Surprisingly, the jackhammering lasted only several hours, and it wasn't as noisy as I thought it would be. The tile selection was extensive and came in under the tile allowance. Installed new lights in pool and spa. Installed an additional pool drain. Repaired about two dozen coping bricks, which were causing some of the waterline tiles to come loose. Had Brandon not noticed this, the new tiles would have suffered the same fate as the old ones and come off in a few years. Installed new mastic around the. coping. The man who did the work noticed that the color of the new mastic didn't match the existing concrete. He suggested that I might want to change the color from gray to tan and I did. So he went to the supply house and got the better color. This is what I call good service.

Now, two years later, we've had to acid wash the pool due to how rough and dirty it became. The tile work is also poorly done -- see the attached photos. I haven't even considered asking them to come back and fix anything because I'm genuinely concerned about being treated the same way again. I originally emailed them right away to share our concerns, and this is the kind of response I got. I've followed up again, but if the communication is anything like last time, I expect more of the same -- being yelled at and dismissed. Bottom line: I strongly recommend staying away from this company. UPDATE: I feel the need to clarify my experience, especially in light of the false claims made by the company's owner. To state that I "refused a startup" is completely inaccurate and misleading. At no point did I refuse anything essential to the process. Instead of working to resolve the issues professionally, the company repeatedly resorted to finger-pointing, raising their voice, and making accusations rather than reaching out to find a workable solution. I had to personally invest time and money into an acid wash to address problems like surface roughness and discoloration--issues that should have been handled properly by the company in the first place. Additionally, I take serious offense to being called a liar. The tile work was done through this company, despite their attempt to distance themselves from it after the fact. For them to publicly discredit me and misrepresent the facts is not only unprofessional but also incredibly disrespectful. Customer service is not just about completing a job--it's about standing behind your work and treating clients with respect. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. Based on how I was treated and the lack of accountability shown, I cannot recommend this company. UPDATE again: Joseph emailed me and threatened to SUE me for defamation. How if I have photos of the work they did is this defamation? I am scared for my life now and have to possibly get a lawyer involved when all I am doing is speaking my experience with this company. They could have rectified the situation but instead continue to threaten me and yell.

I didn't just jump into this with them, I took probably 2 years deciding on who I should use and why. I met with general builders, discount pool builders, other pool companies and I am so happy that I did my homework. Eric and his team are AWESOME. Chad is his point guy and he's the nicest guy you'll ever meet. What they do better than the rest is LISTEN. They really take the time focusing on what you want to accomplish with your pool refresh. I had one of those 70's pools that's 8-9 feet deep. It NEVER warmed to above 80 even in the months where it's a 100 degrees out here for a month. We brought up my depth from 3 1/2 feet to 5 1/2 feet in different areas. We added an 8 foot tanning shelf with stairs. We literally went over every inch of that pool with me in it with a tape measurer just to measure where I wanted the water level in every spot. We made a million changes throughout, as he said in the beginning that we would once things started to take shape. We added the pebble finish. We added new porcelain tile. There are a million options there as well and he guides you through every choice and really has a great understanding of what your water color will end up looking like or how your coping with play with tile that you choose. He/they are way beyond just being knowledgeable. Every inch of your pool will be discussed, if you're that into it. My project took 4 weeks total to finish and came in ahead of schedule. The price I paid was EXACTLY to the penny of what my estimate was, even with the changes that we agreed upon. We took away a few things and added a few things. If I could give 10 stars I would. There isn't ONE inch of my pool that I am unsatisfied with.. Oh, and my water is already at 80 and we haven't even hit the heat of the summer here in the valley. Eric has specialist for every phase of your project and they all were amazing. Clean work, and no debris left after their processes. They were not the cheapest nor were they the most expensive. They landed right on fair. But, worth every penny. My wife and I couldn't be happier. Oh, and if they sucked, I would be the first on here screaming it. I rarely leave negative reviews, but after spending thousands on what was supposed to be a…read morestraightforward spa coping replacement, I think it's important to share my experience. The project was estimated to take about five days. Instead, it stretched to nearly three weeks because one issue after another kept coming up. What became most frustrating was that I felt like I had to constantly inspect the work and point out obvious problems as they happened. The new spa coping profile didn't match the existing pool coping, but even worse, one half of the spa coping had a different reveal than the other half (see pics), the bullnose was noticeably uneven, extensive patching was required after the initial pour, and the mastic installation had to be redone. Every time one issue was addressed, another seemed to appear. The final, and still unresolved, problem involved the three spillways between the raised spa and the pool. During the project, the Castro team unnecessarily removed and discarded original spillway stone. They installed replacement stone, but after the spa was refilled, the spillways no longer functioned as they had before the project. Because of the way the replacement stone was installed, water that previously flowed fairly evenly across all three spillways now flows almost entirely through one, with little bit in the middle one, and pretty much no flow in the third. What disappointed me most was what happened next. I wasn't asking Isidoro to immediately fix it. I simply asked him to come back, look at the spillways with me, compare them to the videos from before the project, discuss what changed, and come up with a plan to fix it. Instead, after I had already given him the final payment, he told me it would cost another $1,500 to address the issue and he was too busy immediately to come fix it. He never came to inspect the work in person and on my last phone call with him, he told me to fix it myself and literally hung up on me. I understand that construction projects don't always go perfectly. Mistakes happen. What matters is whether a contractor takes ownership of problems and works with the customer to resolve them. That didn't happen here. If the workmanship issues had been the only problem, I probably wouldn't be writing this review. It was the combination of repeated quality issues, the need to continually monitor the work myself, and the unwillingness to come back and inspect a legitimate concern after the project was completed that left me unable to recommend Castro Pool Services.

Before moving forward, we met with 3 different contractors, and Mike was the only one who really understood our vision. We didn't want to tear out our existing concrete or patio cover, which made the project more complicated, but he was able to design around it and still deliver exactly what we were hoping for. That flexibility was a big reason we chose them. We broke ground on 9/15/25 and everything was complete by 11/10/25!!! It was crazy how fast everything went and he definitely did an amazing job coordinating all the teams to finish in a timely manner. We went with a custom setup that included a raised spa, Baja shelf, and two illuminated sheer descents, and everything came together really well. The spa might just be one of the biggest in town! The water features at night give the whole backyard a clean, finished look, with the lights. We also added the iAquaLink system, which has been super convenient for controlling everything from our phones. Like any build, there were a few minor things that came up along the way, but nothing major, and Mike has been responsive when we needed him. What stood out most is that he didn't disappear after the job was done-- Mike continues to be helpful when we've had questions or needed small adjustments. That kind of follow-through matters with a project like this, and it's a big reason we'd recommend CATAK. Let me start by saying that both my father and my husband have been contractors, so I grew up around construction and, as you can imagine, my expectations and standards were extremely high from the very beginning. That being said, Mike didn't just meet my expectations--he exceeded them from day one. Everything was delivered exactly as promised and scheduled, and in several cases, even sooner than expected. The finished pool is absolutely stunning. The craftsmanship is beautiful, and the entire crew was professional, respectful, and incredibly clean. Every day, they left my yard neat and tidy, which made the entire process so much easier. One of the things that impressed me most was how responsive Mike was. If I ever had a question or concern, I could text him and he would respond within minutes--sometimes literally within seconds. That level of communication is something you don't always get with contractors, and I truly appreciated knowing that I could reach him whenever I needed to. I spent about three months researching contractors and getting MANY estimates from local companies. Coming from a contractor family, we've always lived by the saying, "Cheap work isn't good, and good work isn't cheap." Mike was not the highest estimate, and he certainly wasn't the lowest.
