I came here this past summer to see what the hype was all about and I've gotta admit, I was pretty overwhelmed by the variety. They literally had a giant board filled with flavors. There must've been 20+ kinds of italian ices, most of them which I never knew existed haha. Like Giselle said, the customer service was horrible. I was a first timer and I felt like the guy in the window was staring me down and getting impatient when I was trying to decide which flavor to try. Besides that, the ice was decent. I had the watermelon and pina colada. It wasn't anything to write home about but I wouldn't mind stopping by to try other flavors. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you weren't in the area or live around the place but if you do, I would definitely say give it a try. read more

I've been a fan of Dolly's for years...this is as good as it gets for Italian Ices. They really know their stuff. Vanilla Oreo is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any flavor. Fresh and natural tasting, this is not sugar ice but real Italian ices, infused with flavor. Yes it's in the middle of nowhere - Kings Plaza Mall is nearby, as is Original Pizza (see my other review) if you wanted to get some really damn good pizza. If you wanted to make a day of it, you could. I was there once when this guy drove in 3-hours from Montauk with a cigarette lighter powered cooler in his car to stock up on ices. Look at the photo for this place. Do you notice how the picture is tightly zoomed in on just Dolly's and everything else has been cropped out? There's a reason for that. You see, there's nothing surrounding Dolly's. There's a railing on the curb, and a chain link fence on either side, that may or may not be covered with random crap like plastic bags, branches, and other assorted nonsense. Directly behind it is the water, and lots of boats. Oh, and an abandoned factory of some sort. To say the least, Dolly's is a rose growing in concrete. I passed by this place for years without giving it a second thought, and then one hot day, I decided I would stop and have an italian ice. After all, it is one of my favorite frozen things. After my first taste of peach ice (with peach pieces!) I realized I had made a huge error in passing Dolly's for so many years. It should have been a required stop any time I was in the area. The ices are flavorful without being candylike. Fruit flavored ices taste like fruit, not sugar. They have a great variety, but they are not all available at all times, so ask if you're not sure. Service is about as speedy as you'd expect for an italian ice place. "I'd like ______." scrape, scrape, scrape... "That'll be $...here you go....and your change...have a nice day." It isn't in a 5-star location, but it sure as hell serves a 5-star italian ice. read more

This place apparently has a great reputation, so I had to check it out. I'm glad that I did. The extensive list of flavor options will leave you with big decisions to make. A quart of ices is $11, but I'd say it is worth it. The two flavors that I tried were both really great. I had both pistachio and black cherry cheesecake. I can't choose which was better, so just get them both. They do have ice cream as well, but I did not try it. Their reputation is quite specifically for having amazing ices, not as much for their ice cream. They also offer a far wider array of flavor options in ices than in ice cream. read more

I love Dolly's! The location isn't always the best - Avenue U is busy, and parking can be a pain in the butt. But there are so many flavors; pretty much anything you can imagine. My family goes at least once a week during the summer. The ices are amazing, but consider trying their ice cream, too. Their butter pecan is to die for! read more

The summer months will soon be upon us, and what Brooklyn summer would be complete without a trip (or 27850) to get some Italian Ices? Dolly's is precariously positioned right on Avenue U near Kings Plaza, so you stand a decent chance of getting hit by a car in your quest for icy goodness. If you're traveling on foot, make sure you've started your journey on the south side of Avenue U several blocks in advance, so you don't have to dodge traffic for your reward. If traveling by car, don't count on being able to pull right over in front of Dolly's, especially on really hot days or any summer day during after-dinner hours. In short, a trip to Dolly's can be a pain in the ass. In spite of that, Brooklynites still come in droves -- because it's just that good. Think of a flavor. Any flavor. They probably have it in ice form. (And if they don't, head about 5 minutes west on Avenue U for the Marine Park branch of Uncle Louie G's. Between the two of them, you should be covered.) And once they do- its a weekly if not daily stop in my life. it is near kings plaza, so dont expect to pull up, and i wouldnt really hang out exactly in front-- ave U is a busy block, lost of cars and some crazies. It may be a little hut on Ave U in Brooklyn, but once you have a taste, you will no longer care about the appearance, you'll be forever craving one of their succulent flavors. There are many flavors to choice from. A must try is the Burgundy Cherry Chocolate Chip! Each chocolate morsel filled with a cherry burgundy juice surrounded by creamy cherry ice. Holy variety! The list of flavors is truly overwhelming. I stopped by with my husband around 8p on a weeknight... It was a little rainy and we were afraid they'd be closed, but the flashing sign was lit! I had read the reviews before going... I get the comments on customer service and my experience was similar, but honestly I got less of a rude vibe and more of a "no-nonsense old dude from Brooklyn" vibe... I got cannoli and vanilla peanut butter ice- my husband got Almond Joy (spot on flavor-wise) and chocolate pretzel. All were delicious and refreshing... lighter than ice cream, but certainly creamier than the fruit flavored ices... The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because for a large, four-scoop cup of ice, you can only get two flavors. WHAT? You have eight-hundred million delicious sounding varieties and you offer a four-scoop but I can't get four flavors? Cue tears... read more

They have the best water ices ever!!!!! Knocks even Philly out of the boat. When my family moved to Mill Basin, we were here literally every night in the summer. There is always a crowd of teenagers and a couple of cars lined up on Avenue U for this place. Cantaloupe, creamsicle, apple crumb, black cherry and raspberry cheescake are some of my favourites. Seriously, this place is better than ice cream. And besides you can eat a whole pint without even thinking twice. The options of flavors are endless and each one is truly wonderful with all natural ingredients unlike most ices today. First and foremost. These are the BEST ices/ice cream in Brooklyn. They recently relocated to a new location 5805 Avenue T, Brooklyn, NY 11234 due to Hurricane Sandy. I have to say everyone in their family are all great people. The ices are DELICIOUS especially my favorite (MINT CHIP). The service has always been AMAZING A+ in my book. Always greet you with a smile and always welcoming. Recently started selling soft serve ice cream and I'm as real as they come after tasting it for myself I have to say it was rich in flavor and truly 1 of a kind. Watch out Mr. Softy, and Carvel. Ices taste amazing BUT they are very cheap with utensils. They don't give you more than one napkin and argue to give you a spoon unless you ordered a large size and even with that, they roll their eyes. Come on cheap skates, those ices are not worth your cheapness. read more

Better ices than all that I've tried! Best flavors so far for me are key lime pie but not to be coupled with another flavor or the key lime will appear bitter. I tried it alone and this is my new favorite summer flavor. Next, rainbow cookie! My husband loves the burgundy cherry chip. Peanut butter and jelly rock! This place brings back so many childhood memories in old mill basin! I love love love their rainbow ice they are never stingy on the size of the scoops and its cold and tasty on a hot summer day. The lines are crazy here in the summer but with so many options to choose from they will always make good business, their chocolate ices to their lemon ices and mango is just to die for. I still havent tried all their flavors and thats gonna be added to my bucket list. The staff never gave me any issues, they are always open to lettin you try a sample or two.
