I visited the store on Tuesday afternoon and had a very frustrating checkout experience. I was in line behind about five people, and it ended up taking around 15 minutes just to check out a few items. The cashier working my line (an older, heavier-set woman) was moving very slowly, pausing often -- even cleaning her hands mid-checkout -- while the register also seemed to be running slowly. Meanwhile, the younger cashier in the next line was moving much faster, helping customers who arrived after me finish and leave well before I did. It was frustrating to see that level of delay when I had just a small number of items and other things to do. I understand that things can get busy, but there should be a better system in place to keep lines moving efficiently. This isn't the first time I've experienced long waits at this location, and it's becoming a regular issue. read more

Today, I had the luxury of meeting Kimberly who had a bad attitude and lacked customer service. She immediately said, we don't sell that....Kimberly told me to go back to the store where I had bought them. She claimed her supervisor proved to not grant a refund. The fact that a solar lamp was missing the solar panels had this had nothing to do with their store's location, is a weird response. The solar lamps were featured on social media and had seen them at this Point Loma store in Spring and didn't buy them. if anyone knows any thing about good buys, Dollar store has items that go viral and sell fast, I found these lamps in National City and bought 3, each at $5. I was disappointed to get home to discover the solar panels were not on these lamps. No where on the receipt does it indicate a refund policy so I guess that's the loop hole to say no and be shitty. I've been shopping here for many years and various times of the day and I wouldn't recommend coming here before they close as the staff harass you to leave. Keep your receipts and check your prices because they are overcharging you. I bought batteries that were two for five dollars and was charged six dollars as well as multiple items for $1.25 that were marked up to $1.50. I know this seems frivolous, but this is really taking advantage of people and I urge you to exercise caution when spending money at businesses that do this. read more

This place is straight up janky. The floors are all messed up with paint. There was also some sticky stuff on the floor, too. I really like this store for the variety of items and I find the workers always friendly and helpful. Why the 4 stars? There is one cashier, a middle aged white man that it seems every time he checks me out I get home and realize there are extra scans. I watched him today and had multiple of the same item so he scans one many times, a few more than items purchased. I do not check the receipt until I get home and it is only a few bucks but not sure if he is just careless trying to check out people faster or intentionally doing it. Located off busy Rosecrans in the Loma Square shopping center. I am on a mission to visit as many San Diego dollar stores for my supplies. Given ive been to a few I can honestly say the floral selection is one of the biggest and more variety of flowers from Lillies to carnations and baby breathe to roses and different colors! I was happily shocked but sad I wasn't needing those colors. The staff was friendly but most other items the store was empty. I could see they got a shipment delivered and pretty much are done with Halloween decorations and has some Thanksgiving left. Not sure if this location would be on my list to revisit as parking is a hassle as well as just getting in and out of this shopping complex. read more

I come here mostly for seasonal items, and I must confess; also for the Bar-S Thick Cut Bologna. The more expensive well-known brand in grocery stores gives me heartburn. Bar-S does not. We eat pretty "clean". I just want some bologna now and then. I've always been happy with my purchases. A couple of times no, but that's my fault for being in a hurry, or distracted, and not examining what I was buying. I just recently discovered their online store, and if you need a larger amount of any one particular item, you don't have to pay UPS delivery charges if you opt to pick them up at a nearby store. With a home delivery order, you can buy a lesser quantity but you will also pay for the shipping. Also, with a store delivery order, you have to buy a case. I figured it out both ways and what I came up with was: for the amount of what I wanted, home delivery would be about the same price as buying a case with store delivery, so I'd rather spend the extra bucks I would have spent on shipping with the home delivery... and have a few more frames. I wanted a particular Halloween/Autumn wreath frame (they call them "forms") and instead of buying out the store's supply of Pumpkin Shaped #D Metal Wreath Forms, I thought I would order what I needed instead. One case (about 24) would be enough plus a few extra. I also saw the Snowman Wreath Forms and that works for me for both Christmas and Winter. I like dual purpose. Gives me more options. I thought I would give the online store a try. I filled out the order form and got a confirmation via Email. I waited for them to let me know when the shipment was in. Finally, I got the email stating my order arrived and I gave them an extra day to arrange their delivery. When I got to the store they had the Snowman carton, but there was no Pumpkin carton. Itxel was very pleasant and helpful and told me that sometimes boxes can be left off the truck and it would probably be in the next weekly shipment. She took my phone number and made a note on my paperwork that the one carton was missing. I was slightly annoyed, but... stuff happens. The next week I got a call (a real person) from Dollar Tree and was told my item was there. We went to the store. It was actually their deilvery day. I was helped by a different clerk and she checked twice and it was not there. I think she said the delivery had not come in yet. I told her someone had called me and told me it had come in. She said they don't call customers. I told her Itxel had taken my number and wrote it down on a copy of my order. She insisted they do not call customers. Well OK. SOMEONE called me. She apologized and said maybe next week. I was pretty annoyed, but we were out and about anyway. When I got home and looked online I saw that my "deadline" to pick up my order was extended a week. I still wanted the Pumpkin Forms and gave in to waiting another week. Someone somewhere was obviously keeping track of this. A week + two days later... yesterday... was the last day to pick it up, and he volunteered to go to the store for me. The clerk checked for ten minutes in the back and could not find it. I'm sure he gave her the hairy eyeball when he said this was our THIRD try. She went to the back and checked again, and was gone for a bit longer. MEANWHILE, he got tired of standing (hey, we're old) and so he cleared off the bench that was near the office so he could sit. There were various items on that bench including a big box that had been covered up by other things. There really was no good place to set it, so he put it back on one side of the bench and sat on the other side. He also found a week old newspaper sitting there and began to read that. She came back and apologized because she could not find it. While she was standing there... she happened to look down at that box... and... wait for it... DRUMROLL... there was my missing order. Yuh. He was relieved. I'm sure the clerk was relieved. Still, the box was pretty beat up. It had been squished, crushed, poked, and had holes in the top. It had been re-taped shut. He took it anyway. At this point he'd let me decide what to do if anything was damaged. He brought it home. I looked at the box and said, "Well, I'll open it tomorrow and decide what to do..." I imagined mangled frames. This morning I opened it, and saw there was about 3 good inches of free space in the box from the top of the stack of wreath forms. Which may be what saved them from damage. Nothing was bent. Nor broken. I'm thrilled (and surprised). Not the best first time experience using Dollar Tree online ordering, I must say. Would I order online again? Yes. Would I use this store as a delivery point again? Yes... because... everyone that helped was pleasant and did their best to remedy the situation. And the worst that could have happened was that I'd have cancelled that half of the order, and then tried reordering. A happy ending to this story. This place is the worst. Heavy-set white woman with a small amount of hair tied up on top of her head is so incredibly rude and lazy. I have never ever run across an employee that is this lazy and hostile. She rings up your items and then leaves them in front of her on the counter for you to bag while she literally lies across her register with a "hurry up you're bothering my not working" attitude; whether there's a line or not. I am a senior on disability, and I have to reach all the way across the counter to try to get my items to bag. Even if she has a long line. If you take more than two minutes, she then rolls her eyes and complains to the next customer then sarcastically says "thanks for your patience." While I'm standing right there which is her intent. They wouldn't have to wait if she did her job. Wish I knew her name but her employers must know who I'm talking about. I'm not rude or inconsiderate and can go in there as pleasant as can be and it never makes a difference. It's gotten to the point where she sees me and I see her and it's just avoidance for me and increased nastiness from her each time I go. I try not to go to this store if I can avoid it, but sometimes I can't. I don't advocate for someone to lose their job but this lady needs to, she's that awful. What's interesting is she doesn't do this to everyone. I waited a short distance from the cash register to see if she treated the next customer like that. She helped bag items for the people before me, and the man behind me she helped. What's her deal? I have no idea. Oh wait, I had a return once and she got it all messed up. Her supervisor had to come and fix it for her, and she was irritated at me for even having a return. I want to ask her what her problem is with me, but I don't want a scene from her and I think that's what I would get. Dollar Tree owners/managers please put her in a different position. Or at least tell her she can't just lie across her register and make the customer bag while she's clearly irritated if It is taking longer than she wants it to. This is by far one of the nicest Dollar Trees I've been in, as I always go to these discount stores like I go to Daiso and the 99 Cent Stores when in the mainland. Usually the Dollar Tree stores tend to be a little messy and in disarray, however this store was very clean and the employees were so helpful. Totally made my shopping experience very enjoyable and very easy because everything was so organized. I got what I needed very quickly and you simply can't beat the price here for greeting cards, as they are only two for $0.99! The store located in Point Loma is often extremely busy, with only one or two cash registers open at a time. However, the store is constantly being restocked with seasonal items and new home goods. Leadership from the top down are accountable. This store is always dirty, in the frozen food section theirs always empty boxes left in freezer. The frozen products are left I disarray. The employees fail to keep the shelves stocked and organized. At any time of the day that they are open the staff is detached from helping out customers. When it's time to check out you can expect only one register open, and 15 plus customers waiting to pay for their goods. The entire staff needs to be fired. Frightening incident this afternoon. A female employee on register 3 yelling very loud using threatening language at a female customer who was holding a toddler under her arm. The child began crying from fright and the many customers in the store were scared as the altercation elevated. The employee grabbed what looked like a broom and continued to yell at he woman with child. We hid toward the back of the store during this altercation. The employee was out of control. This went on for quite a while as customers stood there in shock. She first had it out with a grey haired man who went out the door after he got rung up and she and him were yelling @ each other. The scene was straight out of a horror show. The owner of this place needs to watch the footage of what happened and take measures to remedy this. Horrible. I was there 2 days ago and I tried to buy envelopes without the christmas/birthday cards. The cashier, Albany, told me she cannot sell it like that. So I told her to charge me as if I was buying the cards but that I just dont need them. She got really upset that the cards will be missing envelopes now and that I am trying to buy 12 envelopes for $12. I told her the deal said 2 cards for $1. She (still angry) said that she doesnt know that without the cards. I wasnt trying to get any discount nor get the envelopes for free. I literally wanted to pay for something that I wasnt even gonna take home so I really dont understand why she was so rude to me. I ended up picking 12 random cards bringing them to her so she can charge me for it. I am 6 months pregnant I dont need any necessary drama. Here you can get 10 veggie spring rolls, 6 big and delicious soft pretzels, generous portion of frozen strawberries, veggie mini pizzas, etc. all for just $1 each--take that, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's! Come on Wednesdays if you want the best frozen selection and Thursdays for everything else, as on weekends and Mondays stock can get low. Deducting a star for no longer carrying Chef Ernesto's amazing samosas and veggie burgers--no store manager has been able to tell me why they suddenlhy discontinued them despite repeated inquiries. Also wish they carried produce and more refrigerated items like the 99 cent store. I understand this is the whole premise of DT and they know their customers well! From office supplies to snacks, this location always has what I need (except for easy parking!) It is conveniently located next to a really good TJM as well as a grocery store so I usually park and go to all of the above while I'm in the area.
